Week 13 Bowl Projections Thread

Just for fun, this is what VolNation thinks of their bowl game projections.
Lol, what a delusional fanbase. I hate teams like Bama but they’ve at least earned the right to be cocky. It’s the arrogance of mediocre SEC teams that makes me hate that conference with a burning passion. Like the Mississippi State fans who were convinced PJ would bolt for them recently.

Maybe they’d beat us, who knows. But for such a lousy program in recent years you’d think they’d have some semblance of self-awareness and humility.

Right now, weather outlook for 12/16-19 shows basically clear skies with highs in upper 50's and lows in lower 40s

Well....we are going to be golfing regardless....I've heard it is supposed to be close to 70 this upcoming weekend. Next year we need to go a little earlier.

OK now I want Tennessee so we can destroy them.
Went to the Liberty Bowl in 1986 - Tennessee was pretty much the home team. Became so nauseated by their fans and no less than 100 renditions of "Rocky Time Tennessee" by their band that I became an anti-Tennessee fan for life. So for the last 35+ years, regardless of the sport, if Tennessee is playing I will cheer for their opponent every time (even if it is Iowa or WI)

Good old Suckytop,
Suckytop Suckasee…

Gophers vs. Razorbacks in the Outback Bowl

Yeah I liked that pick, but did you happen to see who they had in the CFP Semi? Yeah SDS might be a little slanted. Give me a break...

And as others have said, I'd now sort of like to see us play Tennessee just to rush for 200+, possess the ball for 40 min, and hold them under 300 yards of offense in front of what will be 95% Vols fans. SEC fans are unbearable.

Seriously though, give me the Citrus or Outback.

Why wouldn't you take your boy to Vegas??
I'm not some conservative uptight prude, but I'd rather not take the boy to Vegas.

The very selfish reason I don't want the Music City bowl, is my wife is going on a girls trip to Nashville that week for a friend's 50th birthday. I've always been adamant that my guys weekends are sacred, and her girls weekends should be the same. It may seem silly, but that's what it is.

Ummm.....SI has the Gophers playing Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. For some reason.....two 6-6 teams (Maryland and Auburn) in the Music City Bowl?

Just for reference on how laughable these projections are.....they have Wisconsin playing Clemson in the Duke's Mayo Bowl and Penn State playing Tennessee in the Gator Bowl. Last time I checked....the Big Ten doesn't have a tie in to either of those bowls this year.

What the heck are they doing over there lol?! 😂. Somebody asleep at the wheel in SI land. Intern must've done those after a heavy night of drinking.

Notice they also have Michigan State playing in the Outback Bowl, Iowa in the Rose Bowl and Ohio State playing in the Citrus.....

Just an awful projections all the way around for SI...

Yeah....some big time homerism. But their thought process (wishful thinking) is that Baylor beats Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship. In that situation....I could absolutely see the committee giving the nod to Alabama as #4 over a one loss Notre Dame team that didn't play a conference championship game. And that's also assuming that Georgia doesn't absolutely demolish the Crimson Tide.

Nobody subscribes to their magazine anymore.....so they are short staffed and had to have the receptionist put these projections together.

A fair number of Auburn fans talked the same trash a couple of years back before the Gophers smacked them in the mouth on the field. The Vol fans come off as a good deal worse though, they truly dont seem to have ANY clue.

Admittedly.....many of us had the same attitude towards Syracuse back when the 8-4 Gophers were pitted against the 6-6 Orange in the 2013 Texas Bowl. But we also had two more wins than that team. Tennessee has a worse record than us. So did Auburn.

I remember being pretty PO'd when Michigan jumped us that year to go to the BWW Bowl.

Maybe SI thinks Iowa will beat Michigan. I know that's not chalk, but it's nice to see someone at least try to imagine a different outcome.

If I'm not mistaken, any hotels in LV in the vicinity of NYE will require a multiple night stay, not that people wouldn't stay more than one night anyway. I know in previous years that has been the case. And for sure, each night will be at a premium rate.
You can get decent (in comparison!) rates if you are a rewards member...at least that is what I heard! ;)

(I go to Vegas a lot)

They also project Michigan in the CFP. They’re just a bunch of dinks.

Maybe I hit the wrong day.....because now it's like over $200 per night

Yeah you must have not changed the date from today (I did that too at first and it was CHEAP!) cause I have been looking all day and the prices have been around 250 a night at the "lesser" Caesars resorts.

Yeah that might be....but they had Michigan in the College Playoff

As someone who has only been following college football for around 15 years, the idea that Tennessee is a historic power program is kind of foreign to me. In the last decade, they have two ranked finishes and have been to only 4 bowl games, 5 if you count this year, and in their defense they won all 4. But they're like Michigan but without the high points. Michigan fans get exasperated when they only win 10 games instead of 12, but Tennessee is just like going 5-7 every other year on average.

Being reasonable though, I can understand why they'd find a matchup with Penn State more exciting than Minnesota. Penn State is a big name program, and Minnesota is considered kind of an also-ran, though hopefully that'll go away as we string together more 8+ win seasons and spend more time in the top 25. And I also remember disappointment here after getting paired with 6-6 Syracuse for the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.

I may be only speaking for myself, but my disappointment with that one was A) Despite the name change, we were just in that bowl game the year before, and B) We just played Syracuse in non-conference the year before as well.

I didn't mention those, but yeah those are definitely valid reasons to be disappointed. It was also our first 8 win season in several years, and getting sent to what felt like the same low end bowl game we would have gone to if we were 6-6, to play a 6-6 opponent, felt like a bit of a slap in the face.

We were 8-4 (4-4) and got jumped by 7-5 (3-5) Michigan to go to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. Part of the disappointment that year.

College Football News: Outback Bowl vs. Arkansas (yes, please)
Athlon: Las Vegas Bowl vs. UCLA

Both outlets have Purdue in the Music City Bowl and PSU in the Pinstripe. I now think those are the most likely outcomes given PU is easy driving distance to Nashville and Pinstripe is the closest bowl to Penn St (whose fans are probably less likely to travel this year given their disappointing season). So it's probably down to Wisconsin and Minnesota for the Citrus/Outback slot not given to Iowa. I still think Wisconsin ends up ranked in the CFP and will therefore get that slot in the Outback with Iowa going to the Citrus and MN to Vegas. Just my thinking at the moment...

Love to see the justification for ranking sconnie over the Gophs in the committee rankings (the only rankings that matter)….just don’t see it.

The justification is Wisconsin has lost to better teams than we have. They lost to good teams like Minnesota. We have lost to bad teams like bowling green.

wait a minute
