Week 13 Bowl Projections Thread

Is this a Big Ten year for the Gator Bowl? I know that's kind of a switch back and forth arrangement.

Selfishly, I want it to be the Citrus, Outback or Guaranteed Rate bowl, because I want to take the boy, and I'm not taking a ten year old to Vegas, and there's another reason I don't want to take him to Nashville.

Actually, directly across the bridge over the freeway from Mandalay Bay. They have been closing off the bridge to make it pedestrian only on special events days. ParkMGM would be a good 1.5 mile walk, however.
Everything is a lot further on the strip than it looks. It would be a hell of a long walk there from the airport.

1970s U of M alumnus here, however, I have been living in Las Vegas for 30 years now so you know which bowl I am hoping for(since CFP and Rose Bowl are out).
I have LV Raiders season tickets and Allegiant Stadium is beautiful (coincidentally built by Mortenson Construction Company). You won't be at all disappointed and can also partake in Las Vegas' New Years celebration. Only downside is it will be more expensive than Nashville.
Nashville hotels are not cheap...

Why wouldn't you take your boy to Vegas??

I jumped on the Raiders season tickets too, and have been very happy with how they have handled the ability for PSL holders to buy tickets to other events at Allegiant before they go on sale to the public. Did you roll the dice back in June on the potential of the Gophers making it to the LV Bowl and buy tickets during the PSL holder pre-sale? I have bought tickets for most sporting events there so far, including 8 seats for Friday's PAC-12 Champ game and 4 tickets for the LV Bowl.

My family has taken our kids to Vegas. There are family friendly shows (many magicians, cirque du Soleil) and outdoor stuff. Can do the Hoover dam.

The plan was that for special events, the Hacienda bridge would be open only to buses/shuttles in one lane, pedestrian traffic on the rest of it. I don't know if that's what they've been doing though.

The only time we did the Hacienda bridge was for the Rolling Stones concert and it was pedestrian only (some golf carts for handicapped and VIPs on fenced off north lane pre concert ). We park in lot V for Raider games.

You sure about that? I tried booking a hotel in Nashville a month ago and anything downtown was $500 minimum.

Yeah Nashville hotels are very expensive.

If I'm not mistaken, any hotels in LV in the vicinity of NYE will require a multiple night stay, not that people wouldn't stay more than one night anyway. I know in previous years that has been the case. And for sure, each night will be at a premium rate.

Might be true in Nashville too.

I just looked at the Flamingo and got rooms for $35 a night on the 29th and 30th....the resort fees are about #37 a night there at that time. I didn't even use my Total Rewards Card and got that rate.

Haven't purchased bowl tickets yet. I figure there will be many available should Gophers be selected. I just don't have a desire to see Purdue play Utah. The only time we purchsed pre-sale to attend so far was Rolling Stones. Other wise I purchase to resell if I think the market will accomidate i.e. Garth, Concacaf, WWE, Stones, to help payoff PSLs.

Looking at what got us to the Citrus Bowl in 2014, I don't think we have a shot at either Florida bowl. We got it in 2014 because Nebraska and Wisconsin had gone the 2 previous years and were both ranked ahead of us which caused us to jump them for that spot. Now it's reversed where we went 2 years ago and we still don't know if Wisconsin will fall below us.

Maybe I hit the wrong day.....because now it's like over $200 per night

Game is on 12/30 starting at 7:30 pm PDT.
Expedia shows average 242/night + tax and fees for checking in on 29th for 2 nights (checking out on 31st). Bump that up to 3 nights (cheching out on Jan 1st) and room price averages up to $305/night + tax and fees.
You got a helluva deal as long as you checkout gameday and take a redeye flight home after the game.

FWIW, I've been in Tampa the past several years over New Year's and there were about double the fans from MN for the Outback than there were for Iowa the year before, and even more than there was for Michigan the year before that. I would think they'd want us back in Tampa, but the bowl folks may not have much say anymore.

Yeah I went to Flamingos site and must have hit the wrong days....it was over $200 when I looked again.

South Pointe is $99 and $179 for the two nights according to their Room Rate Calculator...

We deserve a rematch against Tennessee.

I'm still bitter about that 1986 Liberty Bowl.

We should have won it!

Lee Greenwood sang halftime. "From the lakes of Minnesota, to the Hills of Tennessee". He wore a Vols Jacket.

(18:00 Minute mark).

(I like our chances no matter who we matchup against this year).
I definitely remember all of that

Southpoint...ok hotel. I'm not really that familiar with it, though. About 6.5 miles to the stadium...away south of the strip.

I have a friend who loves it there. It has a nice sports book. I think he is going down to Vegas this week and usually stays there. I love staying on the strip and will be in Vegas the 16th-19th with a group of 8 guys. We will be golfing out there. Hopefully it will be as nice in two weeks as it will be this upcoming week.

I always tell my friend that in 100 years South Pointe will be part of the strip.

Right now, weather outlook for 12/16-19 shows basically clear skies with highs in upper 50's and lows in lower 40s

Ummm.....SI has the Gophers playing Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. For some reason.....two 6-6 teams (Maryland and Auburn) in the Music City Bowl?

Just for reference on how laughable these projections are.....they have Wisconsin playing Clemson in the Duke's Mayo Bowl and Penn State playing Tennessee in the Gator Bowl. Last time I checked....the Big Ten doesn't have a tie in to either of those bowls this year.

I really like South Point actually. I've put family up there a lot. It's pretty nice, but then again I like the casino properties that are a little off-strip. South Point is really nice and has whatever you need, including a great movie theater not that many are there for that.
