UPDATED (10/19) Amelia reports no jail time for Trevor; 2 more yrs probation

Wouldn't it be nice to have a season where the primary focus is, you know, the basketball being played on the court?

You mean because of the non-existent amount of publicity on the subject? Please, most of the state has no idea what is happening. All the attention is on Jerry and Norwood.

@AmeliaRayno: Still waiting on the judge to show up at Miami-Dade court. Mbakwe/lawyer still in side room. #Gophers

Go Gophers!!

Amelia tweet: By Florida law, Mbakwe's "score" as an offender would set the min. prison sentence at 30 months. Can avoid that if plea. #Gophers

Go Gophers!!

Anyone else enjoy Amelia's new Twitter photo?

Point taken, but I was specifically referring to the basketball end of things. Injuries to significant personnel, off-court behavior, a lawsuit vs. the head coach/the U, bemoaning the lack of a practice facility immediately after the team has blown several late-game leads (there's a time & place to bring that up, after you've choked away several games is not the time), etc.

Let's raise our glasses to a (relatively) drama-free 2012-13 campaign, no matter what the end result of Trevor's ordeal is. If he can't play, there's still plenty of talent on this Gopher team. It's not like the Gophers would lack potential leading men (Williams & 'Dre Hollins come to mind). I'd even add Joe Coleman. I expect him to take a big leap this season, both in terms of play and leadership.

It seems our friend GW is there in person too. That's devotion. His love for Gopher BB knows no bounds.

I don't think he is there, if he is he has more serious mental issues than previously thought.

It's not love for GophersBBall it's hatred for Mbakwe.

.

You think? At one point he was tweeting about the wardrobe of the court reporter or staff. But maybe he has secret closed-circuit tv access.

It appears a plea agreement was not reached. This has a bad vibe to it. I'm afraid Trevor may not be on the team after today. I hope I'm wrong.

I may be vastly underestimating the potential of this team, but I think we are a bubble team without Mbakwe.

@AmeliaRayno: Mbakwe's attorney arguing that Mbakwe is in AA and struggling with depression. #Gophers

@AmeliaRayno: Judge is mulling Mbakwe's request for 4 more years of probation. He has power to get around min. prison sentence. #Gophers

@AmeliaRayno: Mbakwe has reached a civil settle agreement with the original victim. Could argue needs job in NBA to pay settlement. #Gophers

This is just getting worse by the hour.

That casts things in a different light, IMO. Pretty hard to defend Trevor at this point.

Agreed.

However, maybe that is part of the reason Tubby let him stay on the team originally.

Right now you just hope for the best for Trevor, whatever that may be, regardless of basketball.

It has turned into a very important situation for all involved.

Why? Civil agreements happen all of the time regardless of guilt / innocence claims. Kobe Bryant will still claim full innocence of rape and was never even found guilty, but I guarantee the female walked away with a nice sum of money.

@AmeliaRayno: Update: the restitution that would be paid to the victim is on a sliding scale. Would be more if Mbakwe goes to NBA, less if not. #Gophers

Well that's interesting ...

@AmeliaRayno: Victim said she was more interested in restitution than jail time. HOWEVER, the state does not feel same way. That's why no plea deal.

@AmeliaRayno: In recess, judge needs to decide whether Mbakwe is not a danger, as his attorney is arguing. If not, could give the 4 yrs of probation.

@AmeliaRayno: If determines he is a danger, judge will not accept the 4 years of extra probation for Mbakwe. #Gophers

It just gets better and better.‏

@Jen4rmTheBlock-
@JBBauer612 all you witnesses together, and a "no contest" plea came up which means NO guilt, maybe you'd take it too

AA and depression...the final desperate options for any troubled athlete, actor and politician.

I agree with afurry91 and howeda. The vibe is changing on this, and it's not for the better. Now the excuses (for bad behavior) are starting to come out. That usually means desperation mode. Sorry, I have no interest in being politically correct.

The only ones who know or sure are licensed doctors. People think a 6-8 240 pound athlete cannot be depressed or a politician or whomever that's famous. Sure, it could be a desperate excuse, but it also could be the truth. Depression isn't just something for 14 year old girls.

Where was this "truth" for the past 5-6 years?

So you'd only believe it if every time Trevor talked he opened his statement up with, btw I have depression? That may be the strategy for some, but I'd imagine depression isn't something you talk about openly and regularly. I'm not an expert, but wouldn't that be the exact opposite of what having depression means?
