We can't all breathe that "top program" air like you, Built. The Gophs making a Final Four again in my lifetime would be a glorious occasion.

Not sure why it matters! Plenty of high major offers for him. Enough said!

I don't think you understand what golf and I were talking about. We aren't saying he's a bad player - he looked great as a freshman last season. But if we have 11 guys competing for time and he's behind Gach and Ihnen at the 3, and only gets 10 minutes a game, there's a possibility he leaves. Tre is good enough to get his 20-25 mins/game elsewhere.

If we end up with 2 of the 3 here to end the spring it would be a hell of a recruiting class.

Was raised on it. The Gophs making a final 4 would be a glorious occasion for me as well. At my age i am running out of time. Winning the BIG10 would equal that for me.
 



I would agree with the sentiment that if Gophers get Bach, Williams could be a roster casualty. Not saying I don’t like Williams, but kids are capable of doing the playing time math in their head.
 


Gotta like the athleticism Gach will bring, but the 19% in conference 3 point % not the best. Hopefully can improve on it, especially if Gabe struggles again.

More than likely. But maybe not as likely as one would think with the depth that we maybe will get. If gabe is not doing well could have mashburn, mutaf, gach, or Williams to step up at his spot.
 

Gach had a 9 game slump that hurt is stats profile...could have playing hurt or just an anomaly. Turnover prone but played the off guard....expect Gach to play mostly the 3 here.

That's probably true. Maybe I should have put it another way. If gabe is really good we will be a tough team to beat!

Sounds like extended spring recruiting to me. After already landing two well-regarded transfers in Robbins and Johnson.

Maybe you and Les are just stuck in the old days of recruiting being over in November? Or maybe you just love to post inflammatory garbage on here?

I do think that Pitino struggles motivating guys and that could be something to watch if Gach does end up here hearing how he can disappear at times.

I still think Pitino could change that and incorporate more motivation into his coaching by learning from elder guys or neighbor PJ. He's still a young guy and time to grow.

Even in the non-conference games over the years against lesser opponents I'd love to see them win by 30+. Step on their throat. Continue to play defense. Stay motivated. Just creating bad habits if you don't. All the best teams win, and win big, when they're supposed to. Seems to me those teams end up doing better throughout the season and into tournament time as well. No data to back that up here but I think there's some out there.

I'll never question the talent that Pitino has brought to MN, just what he gets out of it. Hopefully we see positive changes.

2 year starter. 10 ppg last season. Very good defensive player. Wouldnt want him shooting ftee throws with game on the line. Good news for Race Thompson.

Yes, it looks like he started the year hot. 22 pts in the opener against Nevada on 8-15 shooting (3-8 3PT), a 12 pts 10 reb 10 ast triple double against Mississippi Valley State in the second game, and then 19 points on 5-9 shooting (2-4 3PT) in their victory over the Gophers.

He seemed to struggle much of the rest of the season. His second to last game, an OT victory over Colorado, was a beauty. 28 points on 9/15, 2-6 from 3pt and 8-9 FT, 5 REB, 4 AST, 2 STL, 2 TOs. Then a clunker to end the season: 4 points and 6 turnovers in 37 minutes on 2-7 shooting (although he collected 6 assists). Seems very inconsistent.

I'm not an NBA guy at all so maybe I'm naive, but I am a little surprised that he is an NBA prospect. I just listened to Ryan James on the Gopher Buckets podcast and he was talking about how Gach wanted to get to the NBA as quickly as possible and Minnesota gives him that opportunity because of the waiver/hometown. Maybe there are enough physical traits and development there that he is a prospect despite the mediocre statistical profile.
 

If Robbins and Gach both commit to transferring here and are both denied waivers, at least it will set up the team nicely for the new coach in 2021.


Does anyone else think it is crazy that the previous schools has to "cooperate" in order for a waiver to go through??? We know Pitt f'ed it up for Carr. If it takes very little effort (perhaps as simple as the AD writing a letter to the waiver granting committee, asking for the waiver to be denied), why wouldn't they try to get the waiver denied????

Think about this: guy signs with a program, coach and staff are real nice during recruiting, but when he gets there they are psychos and it is a really bad situation. He has to get out. But then that psycho staff can get his waiver f'ed up??? Anyone else think that is backwards as hell?

Obviously though, the coaches demand that kind of control. They hate the idea of players transferring around and college presidents hate the idea of player free agency.

But, a reckoning has come in college athletics. And I expect new transfer legislation to be brought up in Jan 2021.
 

Zero chance for Gach being denied here...why even bring that up?

Yeah for sure. Sounds like the vote will pass next year, but the delay will definately give time now for coaches to start pushing back.
