The Truth about tubby take 2

It's time to nut up. Start collecting the buyout Norwood. Tubby, simply resign. You stole enough money from Minny already.

Facts He is the worse big ten coach in the league considering talent he has had and his record.
All is players hate him current and former
He does not develop players for instant take a look at some freshman film of rodney and look at him now
He is a confidence killer which is why his players dont make alot of outside shots they are scared to take the shots
He blames everything on the players and is super arrogant
he is stuck in his ways which will not will these days
Last but not least it is time for him to go and the sooner he leaves the better of we will be and trust me I know I have been around the program closely...

I value you contributions, but this post screams of someone very upset (like we all are) with state of program. So I assume you are comfortable going on record that Andre Hollins, Austin Hollins, Rodney Williams, Trevor Mbakwe, Joe Coleman, etc. all HATE TUBBY SMITH. HATE. So as a former player or staff member, you must talk to them daily. Did they HATE him after the Wisky win and Indy win?

Clearly teams with this much talent can put it together from time to time without having a great affinity for the coach, see Brad Childress and the Vikings.

Have you liked every boss for whom you worked and, if not, did that keep you from completing your assigned tasks?

Big difference.. all Gophers on current team CHOSE to play for tubby. Not case with most of Childress players.. some did, but many drafted or inheritied.

GP,

Are Tubby's bosses aware of the problems inside the locker room and what's your best guess (without wishful thinking) about whether he will be back next year?

True but it could also mean the pull of staying home was that strong. You have a coach who once had incredible clout and he will be able to keep in-state players home where they'd prefer to be. For all his faults as a coach at this level, the best players in-state either came straight out of high school or transferred back the U.

Have you liked every boss for whom you worked and, if not, did that keep you from completing your assigned tasks?

I don't keep working for people I don't like. Life is too short. Neither do players, they transfer. So you honestly think all of the current players HATE TUBBY SMITH. HATE. HATE? I don't throw that word around as lightly as you and others on this board apparently. Trevor could have left to got o Memphis, he didn't. All current players could have transferred if they hate him. I think its comical how when we get frustrated with a situation, we will believe anything.

This is no different than any struggling team in sports. Players get upset. Fans get upset. Life moves on.. The situation will take care of itself soon.

To answer your question again. No, I have not liked every boss. I also have not stayed working for those types.

Coaches like Coack K, Roy Williams, Pitino have done something that Tubby is unwilling to do...evolve with the game. Heck, even the slow show in Wisconsin has been evolving. Simple fact; Tubby has gotten NOTHING out of arguably some of the most athletic players in the conference...Its so obvious these guys have quit on him. The IU win was for the seniors...with a player only meeting before the game. If Tubby stays, we have no shot at any of the Big 3 and potentially have others transfer. I would say Norwood has a pretty easy job firing the underachiever.

Rouser, Trevor and Rodney both have kids so I imagine their LOVE for their kids is greater than their HATE for Tubby. Maybe if the Big 3 impregnated someone we'd have a better shot at them.

Struggling? Struggling?

You cant see - and acknowledge - the utter shambles of a talented, experienced team that should be performing at a much, much higher level, consistently?

Carry on.

I am reading with great interest the input from Gopherplaya. I am not that close to the situation, so I have to rely on input here. The biggest thing I got out of all of GP's comments is the reference to name calling and insults spewed to our players, and the fact that they read here. I have numerous times asked commentors to refrain form bringing the kids into the personal insults, and have been called out numerous times about "message board, freedom to express opinions, " etc. Keep the kids out of it. That is my beef.

If you don't believe me about the personal insults about our players, follow the game threads.

Agree, people continue to work for horrible bosses all the time while usually performing sub-par work. Sitting out a season is an incredible disincentive, one that a handful of players have been willing to partake in to leave this program.

These kids are adults involved as cogs in the machine known as major college revenue athletics. I don't rip kids but I have no problem with GP pointing out the players' concerns.

Well an I am sure good old Friend of Tubby would take me to task, but Tubby has had most of his success coaching up players recruited by his predecessor. His record with teams made up of his own players is substandard in comparison.

You can twist this anyway you want to help your argument though. I could also make the argument that Tubby did a good job of taking recruits/players that won 8 games combined in the BT the two previous years and won 8 games in his first year with guys he didn't recruit for his system. You can say that Tubby's "system" sucks and you're probably right but it still takes time to get things figured out with a new coach. I've never understood this argument at all.

I personnel think Tubby is a horrible recruiter

From a strictly stars and other offers standpoint, Tubby has done a great job at recruiting compared to years past.

the major part of that problem his inability to relate today's kids. I think that is why we have so many transfers.

I couldn't agree more.

The only star players he has recruited at MN are local kids who really wanted to play at home or local kids who wanted to transfer to be close to home.

1. You don't think a player who many people believe could be a first round draft pick like Andre Hollins isn't or won't be a star? I could also make an argument that guys like Devoe Joseph, Justin Cobbs, and Colton Iverson are stars he recruited and landed. It doesn't do us any good if Tubby doesn't use them right and they transfer, but he still at least did recruit them.
2. Again, the local player argument is one you can argue so many things. Some people will argue that we don't do a good enough job of getting our top instate guys year after year. Some people believe we have no chance at the top 3 recruits next year. Then some people think if you land local kids the coaches deserve no credit. It can't be all of those things.

It's time for a change.

I agree completely.

So we only have four scholarship players on the team?

I assume that if you knew the consequence of leaving the job would be certain unemployment for a year before going to the unknown of a new job and a delay in the possible opportunity to reach the pinnacle of your profession, not to mention having to move away from family and friends, you'd think a second, third or fourth time about going through the hassle of the job change.

Your real beef is that anybody dares to criticize a coach who has yet to achieve mediocrity in six seasons and, if he were to leave next month, would leave a struggling program in even worse shape than he found it.

You are like a politician who claims to care about the kids. Nonsense.

Poor analogy. All players (at least starters) on our roster are D1 type players that would have a home elsehwere, and they get paid for sitting out a transfer year. So, yeah, if I sucked at my job and knew nobody would hire me, I might think twice. However I don't, neither do the players on the team. They have options.

I've moved away from family and friends more than once for my career. Its called being a big boy (or girl). If a player/employee with options is not happy at their current stint and they stay, thats on them, not their boss/coach.

Being called out publicly by your coach and being called out by some bozo on a message board are not remotely connected.

You aren't actually considering what goes into transferring, it's far more taxing on a player than you are giving credit for.

This I agree with completely with. If we think this message board is harsh.. should read the ones tied to the big programs (no, we are not a big program.. yet).

You may be on to something there. Let's find their stash of condoms and start poking pinholes in them.;)

You're right. Its impossibly difficult. My bad. I didn't realize life was so hard for these kids. Hey, I realize that if a player is unhappy, its not easy to leave.. but if he HATES his coach (point of these posts), then why would they stay because its not easy to transfer. If you are unhappy, but have family and friends near, sure I can see staying. But if you are talented and HATE the coach, why stay?

jammer, I don't know how the burr got into your ass about me, as you evidently haven't been following the few comments I have made lately regarding "losing confidence in Tubby". My burr is insulting the kids. If you thnk that is nonsense, then nonsense.

Couldn't agree more. Some of the in game thread comments are atrocious.

Before everyone gets enamored with GopherPlaya's ramblings I remind you of one "Crazy Joe Davola's" antics during the search for Brewster's replacement. GP may be saying what many of you want to hear including Gopher Lady, whose opinions I respect. However, let's allow things play out before jumping on any particular bandwagon. I for one trust in Woody Teague's judgement to do the right thing for Gopher basketball when the season ends. If the allegations from GP and others are accurate significant changes will be made.

It is comical to me for some people to think you can just get up and transfer. Everybody can not transfer the coach will not let you or give you a release obviously it hurts the APR DUUUHHH!. If you think I am lying about players not being happy with tubby thats fine im just here to inform. You can believe it or not but it is obvious. Paul carter , Justin cobbs, colton iverson, devoe joesph, chip aremlin, royce white (he just was a problem in his own right but he did leave and was very successful), Kevin payton, Brandon Smith, all guys who left the program during the time tubby was at the head. Now if that does not tell you something is wrong there nothing will. Also devoe went on to be all pac 12 as will cobbs, Jay bilas is on record saying iverson is the best post player in college basketball right now. Paul carter plays in the D league and has been invite to NBA training camps as well as summer leagues. Now all these players people bashed to some degree. Nobody gets that much better over one year. No they leave and find there confidence and they go back to being the player thats we all though they could or should be.

When will it be time to put the pressure on tubby. I mean how many more years do you want him to waste? I understand that you do not understand so I can not even be upset with you. All I am saying is we can not keep giving this man a pass simply off his name and past success. Do you want to sit back and watch another sub par 500. season and hear the same ol excuses or remove the problem known as tubby smith. He has had 6 yrs thats more then enough time. If you are happy with his results so far then thats on you , I for one am not and I think a lot of people are with me on that. As well people are starting to see through the BS and are also getting impatient with the guy.
