Quarterback Position

Be prepared because if ML7 lights it up on Saturday this board will be filled with posts about how it doesn't count against MTSU.

I guarantee I won't do that if he does. I really want him to play great for us.

I don't think so at all. Folks are on edge after last year's QB play (mostly Nelson by the way), Leidner's shaky game one, his admitting nervousness afterward, coach's Z's rhetoric and in my case at least overall uneasiness with Limegrove and our offensive gameplan, et al. I think all anyone is really looking for is competent B1G level QB play this year and that didn't really show quite yet last week.

I look forward to the analytical breakdown of real vs. fake completions.

New to the board? Rest assured the ML7 haters will hate something about Saturday's performance REGARDLESS of how he does. Bank on it.

One way of telling will be to see how many fake completions they give him credit for.

Ugg... ML7 with an interception to end the half. This thread should be fun tonight and tomorrow.

We aren't beating 8 wins based on the play so far this season. Luckily, we can get better.

Well, the QB play can't get any worse, so....there's that.

I don't understand why the coaching staff can't get the QBs' confidence up with some easier pass patterns to open the game; e.g., RB screens, short curls, etc. If you run twice and end up in 3rd-and-long, now the QB is nervous, and that can't help.

I keep getting my hopes up that this gets turned around, and keep getting disappointed. It seems there is only one (maximum) receiver a Gopher QB can ever throw it to and get comfortable with, and this year there isn't even that. Now Leidner has an injured leg on top of that - hope that is only minor (!).

The passing game of MTSU embarrassed that of the Gophers. Battis had amazing hands - actually, all of the MTSU receivers had great hands - and their QB wasn't incredible or anything, but made things happen and gave his receivers a chance at the ball. Is play at the level of a MTSU too much to ask for?

I'm prepared for the board filling! I suppose I should ask to which Saturday you are referring...

The Gophers have decent playmakers, but ML has obviously had a great deal of difficulty getting the ball to them. He seems too slow recognizing
the open man, and tentative when he does. If this continues in Fort Worth it will be a long afternoon.

Yes - I am a Gopher homer in a Gopher message board. For Shame!

S19, serious question. What does that make you? (You're sort of implying that it's bad to be a homer, right?)

Is it someone who constantly complains about their favorite team and sees nothing but flaws? That sounds awesome. Sign me up.

Wasn't meant has a jab at all. Just sarcasm. Should of used an emoticon. Sorry.

Nothing wrong with being a homer.

Do you really believe there are Leidner "haters"? This is a Gopher message board, we're all rooting for him to do great. The "haters" are just people who have watched him play and are concerned with what they've seen. 7 completions/ game is highly concerning

I mentioned it in another thread but we made it pretty easy for him too at times. Our DL was not sticking to their gaps and their QB had some pretty clean looks downfield. That makes a big difference.

Not taking anything away from him, just that we didn't help.

Botticelli didn't play a lot they're saving him. A lot of that second half was with second and third team DL in there. No worries on our DL I don't think.

I'll say it again.

I miss Max

I said that a few times at the stadium today myself. I even contemplated breaking Phil out of prison.

Next week frightens me. I hope Leidner is up for the challenge because we are gonna need way more than 60ish yards out of him.

"Haters" is the go to for a small segment of the board for anyone that posts anything critical or negative about anything related to the Gophers.

And I guess "Homers" is the go-to for a small segment that sees what is going on, knows the Gophers do not have the perfect QB situation, but chooses not to spew over every thread about how awful things are.

Haters and Homers.

You miss a guy who cannot start for Jacksonville State? Max Shortell was not a DI QB, plain and simple. I fail to understand how some on here cannot get that through their head.

Ummmmm.... My comment is more an indictment of the current state of affairs than it is the belief that Max is Heisman material

No. Homers are almost never negative. Paul Allen is exhibit A as a Vikings homer. Dick Bremer is exhibit B as a Twins homer.

I miss him for the fact that he would have been in his fourth year in this system, and if nothing else could have been a positive influence on the younger QBs.
