*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS-PURDUE GAME THREAD ***

For the record, I have a bet going with a friend that the school negotiates a "retirement"' with Tubby. After how this year has ended, I can't imagine why the AD would want to deal with the angry fanbase and I can't imagine why Tubby would want to come back and get boo'd at home all the time. If he stays, it's all because it's a last-ditch effort to get something out of the big 3 in the 2014 class.

I can give you approx ten million reasons why Tubby will fulfill his contract if given the opportunity.

The Gophers, who claim to be a "defensive minded" team, will give up 90 points to a dreadful Purdue team.

Losing to Iowa and Purdue on the road by 20+ should get him fired alone. He has packed it in for years now and the players have caught up.

We have a team full of butter-fingers...How does Tubby find these guys(RSIII)?

That's why the word "retirement" is there (and in quotes). I imagine they reach a kind of buyout agreement that doesn't look like we fired a coach with 20 wins and an NCAA tournament birth.

So the obvious conclusion is that Tubby is not a very good teacher.
Jim Jackson just said as much on TV.

I agree with this. Recruiting has not been the issue in my opinion. Teaching/coaching and players leaving have been the biggest things.

Knew this game would be tough with the early start and a Purde team playing pretty well. Upset with how the defense has been today but at least we are shooting the ball a little better. Purdue is a team I wouldn't want to see in the B1G tournament and will be real dangerous next year with everyone but Byrd back.

Trev had 4 turnovers in this 2nd half...Any chance he had for 1st team all Big Ten is gone....He needed a big game today.

This team is poised for a deep run in the NIT. Too bad we will creep into the NCAA's.

So you're comparing our recruits to one of the best programs in the country? You talk about guys like Williams and Walker not being highly recruited. Funny that Rodney had an offer from the program you're salivating about, Wisconsin. Mo Walker had offers from Pittsburgh and UConn, two pretty good programs. Unless of course you have some inside knowledge that these offers are not true. If you do, I'd love to hear it.

I'll give you the Bostick one.
Just speculating on big Mo and if U Conn actually ever offered him.I find it a little questionable I didn't know Wisconsin offered Rodney. Bottomline I don't think our recruits were as highly recruited as many think. But certainly not as bad as they have been playing. Keeping guys here is really another big issue. Iverson and Cobbs of course. Devoe was a strange deal and to me even Paul Carter leaving seemed to be more than to be near sick family. Royce with his baggage I could understand,

Which sounds worse to the media? Firing a coach with a good resume, or letting him stay to run your program into the ground? I'll take the former.

I don't care at all if he retires or if he's fired. Get him out.

Now that I made that post, another thought:

How does it look to recruits if we fire a coach with 20+ wins with one of the toughest SOS in the country and who makes the Big Dance? Wouldn't that be sending the message that if you don't fully meet expectations, heads will roll?

It shows that you want to win tournament games which is what every recruit wants.

I like the lowered expectations.

I have a hard time believing they ever sniff the Big Dance without Tubby.

That being said, the decision to extend him at the money they did was awful.

You're right. They never won before Tubby. Monson only had two winning seasons in the Big Ten. Tubby has... Oh, and I thought it couldn't get worse than Monson years...

Straight up firing him looks terrible, which is why I said they would negotiate his severance from the program.

9 seed in the B1G tourney, pretty simple story to tell.

That's crap. Tubby's done basically no better than Monson. Monson was not some hard-to-replicate hire. The people with the most negative opinion of the Minnesta job are Minnesotans.

It's no secret that Tubby makes little sense when he speaks. This isn't like 'good ole boy' Kill speak. Tubby speaks in broken sentences and jibber jabber.

Why are people on here so fixated with the Big Ten record? I mean, it clearly matters, but it's not like we never played anyone in the non-conference season. We didn't get ranked in the top 8 because we killed a bunch of hapless teams.

If this team goes to the nit they will be total check out

He said they lost to Nebraska because the governor was in attendance.

Tubby just has a way with words.

This is why it could be arguable that Tubby did far more to hurt Minnesota basketball than Monson did.

Another tough game to watch today. I hate to say it, but we're now in must-win mode the first round of the BTT if we hope to make the NCAA tourney.
