*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS-PURDUE GAME THREAD ***

Why doesn't Tubby ever work the fefs or vivsibly encourage his players? It's like he doesn't have their backs.

"You just have to find the right coach"

I thought I made it pretty clear that finding the right coach is the ideal solution.

The problem? Good luck getting that coach.

We can't get enough stops to get back in this. They are shooting lights out.

That's one heck of an interesting spin on the stuff I've been saying. The U doesn't suck. It has a beautiful campus and rests in a major metropolitan area. The players don't suck (not sure how you got that with me saying directly that we have 4 guys with NBA potential on this team). I didn't say Tubby was doing the best job possible.

Reading comprehension in this thread has been, in a word: poor. What you guys aren't understanding is that the beauty of a campus and location aren't reasons why recruits pick schools.

They don't?

Really? It doesn't suck? That certainly doesn't fit with all your "no one would ever want to come here" talk. You have been saying, in effect, that Minnesota is an awful environment for basketball and anyone who hopes for better than what we've gotten from Tubby is delusional because it will never, ever happen.

Our reading comprehension has been fine. You must really, REALLY suck at saying what you mean.

How does Purdue make some of these ugly jump shots?

So if we lose to Purdue in the first round of the BTT are we invited to the dance? Paging Selection Sunday..

Joseph is the only guy besides Royce who I would call a high level recruit.. You can read Rivals all you want but guys like Coleman,Rodney, Mo Walker despite what their family may tell you were not that highly recruited. Guys like the Holllin boys, Ellision were Stanford,Arkansaw level type offers. Interesting that Wally and Devon Bostick were not recruited by the Wisconsin schools. I think Tubby's recruited has not been very good.

So where are you getting your inside knowledge? Why aren't you coaching?

Also why is it interesting that Wisconsin didn't recruit those two players? Bostick was a JUCO. Maybe they didn't want a JUCO. Last year Wisconsin had two open scholarships and they were able to land a 5-star local kid in Dekker who plays the same position as Wally. People always seem to forget that you can't recruit four guys from one position every year or anything.

If we end up losing by less than 10, would that be a morale victory?

Huge call right there...bailed out the shooter....Tough to come back with those calls.

Tubby may never win another game as a coach. Kind of sad situation for old school coach when you think about ,but he should go.

What's with these refs not calling anything and then go to call everything?

I'd just let Andre Hollins go one on one the rest of the game.

How does Purdue make some of these ugly jump shots?

Purdue is playing out of their minds, and everything is rolling from out to in for them. This is why you bring energy to beat the crap out of a lousy Nebraska team, so that you don't have to rely on Purdue not playing a perfect game in order to secure your post-season tourney berth.

Game over. 8-10. How do you keep Tubby after this year? How?

To claim your reading comprehension has been fine and then to come back with ^this^ is kinda funny. I've never said nobody would ever want to come here. I said the school has no real appeal to a basketball player other than the fact that the coach has a national title on his resume.

Ask yourself: if you were a top-flight basketball recruit, what do you want out of your school? Most of them come up with a list that consists of (in no order):

-Ability to produce NBA talent (Minnesota has a very thin history here)
-Facilities to work on and develop skills (Minnesota doesn't have a practice facility)
-Coaching staff with a solid resume (Tubby has a national title and has won 20 games how many times?)
-Closeness to home (Minnesota hasn't produced anything in the state since 2009, really)

If campus location and those amenities were a priority, then Duke, UNC, Texas, Kentucky, and Syracuse wouldn't constantly get 5 star recruits. Why does Duke get recruits? Coach K UNC? Williams has a massive rep with developing NBA talent. Texas and Kentucky? Same thing. Syracuse? Boeheim wins and they pump all kinds of money into basketball.

I think Tubby must know he's done. He has that resigned look now.

He's not being positive though.

The comments were the U sucks, the players suck, the campus sucks, it all sucks. Tubby is doing the best possibly job anyone can at the U and no one will ever want to coach or play here because it is such a horrendous place.

I don't see that as being positive.

Exactly. I look at AustinPowers and Gopherinpain at being at the very opposite ends of moron.

Do these guys look like Duke should have recruited them? Bostick really doesn't back up your statement. Talk about a guy who had no impact. Think that may be the reason Wis schools didn't want him?

Why is mav not in playing point, he has done fine, don't get it. Coleman can handle ball, dre has problems when handling it, we turn the ball over less with Mav at point, and that is not easy to say.
