*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS-PURDUE GAME THREAD ***

To add SOME positivity, Andre Hollins played an awesome game. Hats off to him. Great job passing and scoring. Had a nice balance of both. 24 points 8 assists right now.

you have o put five players on the court

Nobody on the bench to push any of the starters for playing time. That's why Coleman still gets minutes, even though he turns the ball over continually --no other options. Needing a severe upgrade in talent overall. Hopefully some of the redshirts or newcomers can step in and compete right away.
And somewhere we need to find a couple shooters. Not dunkers -- sharpshooters who can hit jump shots.

9 seed in the B1G tourney, pretty simple story to tell.

I remember when SS was speculating we would have a fighting shot at one of the top four spots and now we are going to be one of the bottom four. I am not picking on SS for being wrong, I am just using him as an example because he is a level-headed guy who thought we would do that well, not one of the people who see a few good games and are ready to hang up a final four banner.

I like the lowered expectations.
I haven't lowered expectations, a lot of people and myself included were worried if it ended up coming down to this game as a must win we were in trouble. I am much more upset with the Nebraska performance than this one. Sure I thought we could win this one and wanted to but I knew looking at everything it would be a tough task to accomplish.

That's crap. Tubby's done basically no better than Monson. Monson was not some hard-to-replicate hire. The people with the most negative opinion of the Minnesta job are Minnesotans.

That's just false. You can say he wasn't any better in the Big Ten, but he absolutely has been better overall. You guys realize how awful this program was when Tubby stepped in, right?

Why are people on here so fixated with the Big Ten record? I mean, it clearly matters, but it's not like we never played anyone in the non-conference season. We didn't get ranked in the top 8 because we killed a bunch of hapless teams.

Because it is fun being able to beat and finish better than your conference peers, and it is miserable losing to them.

Just speculating on big Mo and if U Conn actually ever offered him.I find it a little questionable .

Why? Because it helps your argument?

Bottomline I don't think our recruits were as highly recruited as many think.

They're not top end talent by any means but there's no doubt we saw more talent on paper coming out of HS under Tubby than Monson.

But certainly not as bad as they have been playing.

Agree

Keeping guys here is really another big issue. Iverson and Cobbs of course. Devoe was a strange deal and to me even Paul Carter leaving seemed to be more than to be near sick family. Royce with his baggage I could understand,

Agree completely as well. The reason we have guys like Maverick and Welch on the roster is because of transfers. Tubby deserves some blame for the transfers without a doubt. White was a risk, but a risk he had to take.

This is why it could be arguable that Tubby did far more to hurt Minnesota basketball than Monson did.

Not really. We're not in any worse spot that we were 6 years ago, just not any better.

How many tournament wins does Tubby have?

I think from a recruiting standpoint it could really sting, Teague has to hit a homerun with the hire.

Another tough game to watch today. I hate to say it, but we're now in must-win mode the first round of the BTT if we hope to make the NCAA tourney.
I am not very happy with the past 2 performances but if you really think that you need to look at the resumes of some of the last 4 teams in the field right now, even with a loss Gophers probably aren't even playing in one of the first 4 games.

He said they lost to Nebraska because the governor was in attendance.

Tubby just has a way with words.

That's not fair. Nebraska should have to forfeit that victory.Tubby is spot on.

This is the kind of attitude that just makes no sense. Tubby inherited a 9-win program (not just Big Ten, but the WHOLE SEASON...I think). Now he's got the program winning 20+ games with an incredible SOS and as a lock for the NCAA tournament.

Goodness, I get the desire to fire Tubby, but let's not completely discredit what he's done.

Bright spot: Oto didn't just shoot an air ball.

One more game for Tubby...I gotta believe the Gophers will get snubbed by all post-season committees...

I don't agree. There are a ton of people around the country who still believe we are extremely lucky to have Tubby Smith as our head coach. Which to me says that most people don't think our program is worth a crap.

Not better than 9 wins really?

OK. Not literally season to season. But Monson made the NCAAs as recently as 2005. Overall, we're stuck as the 6-9 best program in the B1G. Tubby's done nothing to change that.

Because clearly tournament wins are all you judge a coach/team on.

Well it's certainly the most important. The second most important is big 10 record. And he gets a big fat F in both of those.

You cant be serious??? They just lost back to back games to below .500 teams. They probably could not beat Penn state on a neutral floor. Keep them out of the tournament, decline the NIT invitation. Lets move on with the program. New hire and practice facility should be the top two priorities.

That's fair but it' s not going to change until the U spends money their a decade behind now.

Just stop.
