Official 2016 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

I assume it's Albert Okwuegbunam, the TE from Missouri, committing to Mizzou. All 247 crystal ball predictions are changing to Mizzou and he's on an unofficial visit there this weekend.

It's Albert O and yes Mizzou is supposedly the clear leader.

Albert O visited last year after teammate Quinn Oselund committed as I recall (?) & all but begged to commit at that time. The Gophers declined but have kept in contact this whole time. To me it feels like we just were never that jazzed about the kid & slow played him.

Not saying you're wrong, but if this is the case, would he still be considered a "top Gopher target?"

In a recent article (rivals I think?) Albert gave the 6 schools recruiting him the hardest and did not include Minnesota. Thought that was kinda strange.

For a while, MJH and Burns said Albert O was the top TE target. A few weeks ago, MJH said that the staff is now going to take a primarily blocking TE instead of a receiving TE like Albert.

Given that today's game showed some potential chink in the Gopher's Offensive Line armor with injuries and rag tag line struggling to gel, and that five redshirt seniors will be graduating (Brian Bobek unless he gets a sixth year for medical hardship, Joe Bjorklund, Jon Christenson, Foster Bush, Josh Campion) we will have a very young inexperienced offensive line next season.

The Gophers recently got a commitment from JC player Vincent Calhoun which will help. Should they consider more immediate help by adding another JC OL player in the starting rotation?

The plan all along has been to take 2 TEs in the class: a pass catching TE to replace Maxx, and a blocking TE to replace Plsek. Albert O. appeared to be a strong Gopher lean, we offered him pretty early (Feb or Mar if I remember correctly), he had a connection here (good friends with Oseland and his high school coach respects Kill), and by all accounts was one of our top targets at a position of need. Since we don't currently have any other TEs on our radar, at least none that have scheduled OVs, it seems odd that we would cool on him in any way. I really don't get this one at all.

They should add a new OC.

Go Gophers!!

Any update on Tyler Johnson or Winfield? Haven't heard much about them in a while.

Winfield is still holding out for an offer from tOSU. I would be surprised if he made any commitment before his season if over unless it is tOSU.

Agree. I haven't been watching all that closely, but our passing scheme seems to call for a TE who can get down the field by going inside/out after being isolated on a LB. Neither Lingen nor Wozniak seem to be that guy. I've been a little surprised that Duke hasn't been in there a bit. Maybe they believe Gibson will develop into the pass-catching guy.
