Official 2016 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

He reminds me of the guy that Kill does not want. The guy that is not "all in" for the Gophers. I am sure he is fully capable of playing well but it seems like he should have jumped on the offer a long time ago if he had passion for the U. Maybe he is waiting for an offer to play qb somewhere.

There is zero chance he plays QB at a D1 school.

Did we have any recruits in attendance last night?

No way they will find room for Maynard if need be. He is one of best players Indiana

We don't have room for him at the moment. According to the recruiting guys we'll only take 1 more OL if it's a JUCO ready to step in and play next year, so a guy like Vincent Calhoun.

I would be willing to bet if Maynard visits and the staff likes what they see and offers him that they will have a scholarship for him. There is no way they turn away that talented a kid just because of numbers.

A QB who is committed to Nebraska is visiting Oregon this weekend and is said to be heavily considering flipping to Oregon, this would be a win because it would get him out of the conference, and possibly a double win if Seth Green decides to commit to the Gophers afterwards.

Right and that is why he has not accepted any offer yet. He has no qb offers. He is a wr or safety. No doubt about it.

Thats not why he hasn't accepted any offer yet. He isn't waiting to get a QB offer. He simply has barely visited anywhere and has been disinterested with the recruiting process in general due to baseball and basketball over the spring and summer on the weekends. Once he can starts taking some OVs, i'd bet he will recommit rather quickly.

I would think Kill would stay loyal to Poljan don't you? and I don't see them taking two QBs. We'll see I guess.

Why do so many want Seth Green to flip here? I realize that it's one of the best high school teams in the country but, nonetheless, he doesn't even start. What is the likelihood of him turning into a legit Big Ten QB if he barely even plays as a HS senior? Let somebody else take his dead weight.

They would definitely take both IMO. They still haven't completely ruled out taking Keon Howard (doesn't look like they ultimately will) who has a fraction of the talent Seth has.

Great point I forgot all about Howard. It's going to be an interesting couple of months.

I'm sure I could find a way if he is good enough but in the event that Seth did become a gopher, it would be awfully tough for me to consider him one of my favorite players after spurning us once already.

That's fair but I think as more high profile recruits show interest in the Gophers we are going to deal with more kids who flip from school to school. It just comes with the territory.

Yeah, I'm fine if out-state guys like Snelson flip back and forth but for me it's different with in-staters. And in the case of Green, It would be because he wasn't good enough for Oregon, not because he changed his mind.

Just a thought on Seth Green. Some say he's not so good since he is not starting at Allen, TX. I have never seen him play so I can't speak to how good he is or what potential he possesses. But we don't know the full story as to what is going on at Allen. Green may be as good as the starter or slightly better but sometimes a coach will play a younger player over a Senior if the younger player is close to being as good as the Senior. Also, we have no idea what pressure the coach is under to play the other player. I'm not saying that Green is not getting a fair shake but like anything else in life politics can enter into the situation so just because a player is not starting it does not always mean that he is not the best at his position. I do respect Green in the fact that he informed the MN coaches prior to his commitment as to where he was going. A lot of kids wouldn't have done that. I still think he ends up at Oregon but time will tell.

I'd be willing to bet he's not even being considered and called us his leader to simply drum up recruiting interest. We took 5 O-lineman last year, have 4 committed for this year, and are the heavy favorite for Calhoun. We really don't need him.

I think the situation with Seth Green is that he's behind a junior that's been groomed for the position. The kid is pretty good, but as a 6'0 quarterback doesn't have the measurables that Seth has. If Seth's patient he'll get his opportunity.

On Maynard. Yes we took 5 OL last year and have 4 maybE 5 with the JC kid this year. I think they will take Maynard if he wants to be here. Look at the injuries to our OL now and it's after week one. You cant Have enough depth on either line.

Amani Hooker - Park Center guy headed to Iowa although I'm not sure The U offered had three picks and returned two for touchdowns last night.

I agree, plus some of these guys might not make it at the college level.

The Golden GOphers have about six scholies left, maybe more if we have last minute attritions. We already have four OL commits. Taking Calhoun makes sense to balance the classes. Maynard is 6' 6.5" 305 lbs OT. Do we take him if he is really that good, or do we look to filling up extra bodies with walk-ons?

We have needs elsewhere at DT & TE. My hunch is they will take both Maynard and Calhoun. The OL is too important to have good depth.

Where is the narrative coming from that Maynard is some sort of can't miss talent? Is he really better than a guy like Stieber or Kegel? I'd bet if we really wanted to take a 5th HS o-lineman, we could get someone better. Calhoun would be an immediate impact and a week one starter in 2016.

Exactly. I'll believe Maynard has a commitable offer when there is an OV scheduled. I doubt the staff views him more favorably than any of the current commits.

We currently have 6 scholarships open, and I think JK has said we end up signing 8-9 more. My guesses:

DE- 2 (Terrell Lucas, Zo Bridges, Terrance Corbett)
DT - 1 (????)
LB - 1 (Andre Polk)
S - 1 (Simeon Smiley, Tyler Johnson)
CB - 1 (Antoine Winfield Jr, Coney Durr)

So that's 6 more recruits alone on defense. On offense, we probably end up with:

RB - 1 (Martell Pettaway)
TE - 2 (Albert O., TBD)
OL - 1 (Calhoun or bust)
