Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

I was just wondering if any recruits ever give weather as a reason having any factor in their decisions.

It's hard to really know and each situation may be a little different but if I had to guess I would say weather would have a bigger factor from the beginning of the recruiting process. If weather is a big factor, you'd think most would just dismiss a northern school from the beginning.

Would you rather do 2-a-days in the Texas, Arizona, Florida and Alabama summers or the ones in Minnesota….?

I like that the staff embraces the challenge and has those recruits scared of the winter weather come in January. Melvin Holland was at the Hockey City Classic and said he was surprised that the weather wasn't that bad. It takes the fear of the unknown out of the equation.

Good point. I do think it has to affect some. Hopefully, there are enough that think the whole package that MN has to offer is worth putting up with the winter.

Rodney Smith's high school teammate and good friend LB Jonathan Celestin is visiting this weekend, I haven't seen much mention of him. 247 is showing his two offers are Valdosta St. and Western Carolina. In looking at his film, he's clearly undersized for a LB but is fast and could have some potential on special teams and in nickel packages on defense against spread teams. I'm wondering if we're expecting to offer this weekend or if he's more of a PWO candidate.

He's not a PWO candidate.

This might be a legitimately good two fer. It is hard to tell from the recruiting film about his entire body of work and the level of competition he was against in HS. But, he appears to have quickness.

We have a need for speed always.

Two kids from the same hometwon far from home together has benefits.

Is there any info out there at all about Craig James? Its like he has fallen off the face of the earth.

Right after his visit to the U he decided he wasn't speaking to reporters anymore & hasn't taken another visit since then. Gophers coaches say they feel very good about James. He will announce on NSD.

DL65 wanted to know if there will be a surprise recruit on national signing day. The 247 recruiting site lists him as 100% Minnesota. So there you go DL, he is your man. Since we already have two verbal RBs it might still be a surprise if he signs with Minnesota. If not, he will still be a surprise to some other school.

Blasingame might be flipping to Vanderbilt per the Vandy 247 site.

? Craig James is a CB.

Must be Blasingame. This sucks.

Curious choice by Blasingame. With just ten commits to date, Vanderbilt has five other DB's in the class, and four of them are ranked higher than Blasingame - per Rivals.

It's closer to home and Khari is big on academics.

per Sid:

• Gophers football has two big-time recruits visiting this week from Mundy’s Mill High School in Jonesboro, Ga. Linebacker Jonathan Celestin had 139 tackles this past season, while running back Rodney Smith is being sought by many SEC schools.

Go Gophers!!

My guess is that he called the staff and told them he was switching his commitment before telling Vandy, not that he told the staff he was taking an official to Vandy prior to doing so. I don't have any insider information to base this off of other than that Ryan Burns said that the staff just found out about the official and the commitment switch about an hour before it went public. I tend to trust Burns and I would think he got that information directly from one of the staff members.

Seems like his visit was definitely on the hush-hush. The right move would be calling the staff you're "committed" to and let them know you're going on another visit.
