Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

I personally think we are sitting really well with Ragnow and Holland Jr, and we'll probably find out about both within the next two weeks. Signing day is coming up quickly!

Hopefully I am Samsonite (waaaay off) with that gut instinct.

Things are getting interesting.
Remember caring is creepy.

If all these prospects actually care about the things they say they do in regards to building relationships with the coaches then we SHOULD be pretty good.

Jones-Obviously been on Kill's radar for a long time, relationship has been built and maintained to the point of a commitment, albeit a supposed soft one.
The florida steam makes no sense to me for him. Michigan just fired Borges, which would mean a relationship of less than a month with the new OC would somehow trump over 3 years. That said, it makes more sense than a Florida or Alabama commitment for the kid.

Ragnow-Relationship built, maintained, progress in winning has been proven with 8-4 season. Either he really has just been paying lip service to Kill and MN or he's a lean to us. A wisky commitment would be an absolute slap in the face for Kill and the program.

Tegray Scales- Indy just cleaned out their DC and Dline coach, granted he probably has been talking to the LB coach, but instability within a month of signing day shouldn't bode well for him heading there.

Holland- Not that we've been on him for longer than anyone else, but we should have one of the longest relationships recruiting him. I think he'd fit in really well here and could step in right away.

If Smith is recruiting Holland for us that's a good sign with him, as is the not commit of Thompson.

James seems really interested, not a whole lot of other teams in the running(at least from what I can see)

Mims had Wake Forest's coach retire, and western Kentucky lose Petrino.

If we can hold on to Jones, or sign Ragnow/Holland we should all be really excited for Kill and the staff. If we can't, I think it just shows how far we have to go before locking down guys we identify early like Andrews.

I know absolutely nothing about Scales, but I do find it interesting that IU is the favorite for him. They have had a horrible, horrible, defense for as long as one can remember. You'd think, with an offer list like his, he'd want to play for a program with a decent defense.

Perhaps it's just a case of the "be the guy that turns it all around" angle which I'm sure Kill and staff are talking with WR recruits about? Just a hnuch.

I think Scales is a guy who wants to stay close to home, which would explain the possibility he's leaning Indiana. Convincing him to come north to Minneapolis might be the biggest challenge in landing him.

The pessimistic Gopher fan in me thinks this is similar to Reid Travis locking out Gopher fans at his announcement. No reporters because he knows he is leaving the state. Hopefully I am Samsonite (waaaay off) with that gut instinct.

I thought the same thing. Ryan Burns himself has said that when a recruit cuts off communication, it's a bad sign.

He cut off communications with all reporters not just MN. I'm not saying he's leaning one way or the other but it seems that you guys are looking for smoke where there isn't fire.

He didn't cut off communications with coaches, he cut out reporters. Seems to me that while it might be bad for Burns, it doesn't mean shi_t to Kill.

Go Gophers!!

I don't know anything about that kid, but it would be pretty sweet to steal a Wisconsin commit. I have a feeling he'll be looking at a southern school since he is from Florida though.

Obviously

Wait for it . . .

The Badgers cooled on him.
:)

They have a lot of good young talent on that defense he could be a part of. Plus early playing time. Also, if the defense is even half decent in the next year or two Indiana could be legit.

It's a bit of a risk, but there's some payoff too.

So how many guys are we technically able to sign now? Would we be able to over-sign if enough recruits were willing to commit (say 17 instead of 15)?

Program on the uptick, close to home, start right away, help build something. Where have I heard this before? Hmmmmm

No actually the Badgers would love to have him. Report is grade issues will prevent him from attending UW. Same reason not many JCs can get in to school in Madison. Nebraska will have two players on D next year that wanted to play for the Badgers but could not get past admissions. Say what you want but NW and Wisconsin have the highest standards in the conference.

We'll sign about 18-20. Kill has said as much.

How long can a program be on an "uptick" without making it to a bowl game? Seems like IU is always the trendy pick to break out, but they never get out of the basement.

McKinzy doing work. Gotta love how all of our top recruits are recruiting for us.

Interesting prospect. Rivals 2* with offers from Miami (FL), San Diego St., Utah, and Washington St., and us.

Oh please.

I don't know who's standards are higher and frankly I could care less. All I care about is getting good prospects into school and making sure they graduate. Having a majority of them end up on academic all-big ten team (Gophers had 2nd most, NW was had most) is a bonus.
