Any news on D'ernest Johnson? Sounds like a Louisville lean, but has only taken officials there and here.

Would be surprised if Charlie Strong stayed in Louisville. Surprised Florida didn't offer him $6 mil a year two seconds after the GA Southern game. TX may even be interested in him.

Not sure how his departure would affect recruiting.

After he got suspended for 6 games I think Minnesota wasn't as excited about him...

Didn't it get reduced to 1 game? But yeah, after his visit we didn't hear much about him, maybe they weren't thrilled with him after meeting him in person.

Jeff jones senior year hudl. Curiously viewed only 52 times. After viewing both reels Cook appears to be a poor mans Jeff jones but could be influenced by level of competition. Kelvin cook's high school is supposedly top 25 in the nation (Colerain).

Cook is electric, but Jones clearly has better size and speed combination for Big 10. Really hope we can keep him.

thanks for posting that, i have been waiting a long time to see his senior highlights, Connor Mayes also finished making his senior highlight reel recently, i saw a lot more power and running people over in that highlight reel then in the past which is good, before i thought of him as purely a finesse back, also showed good athleticism by leaping over a few defenders, also he has some very good receiving skills, he could make a move and be a full time WR if he wanted to and be a very good one, i mean i hope he doesn't and he won't but he is talented to do it if he wanted to, when i read the scouting reports it always said good combo of speed and power with good receiving skills and i didn't know why, but i can see why now, Jeff and Berkley Edwards both have very good hands and it is one greatest assets according to the ESPN scouting report on both of them so i expect a lot of screens and dumps to the RB in the future, man Jeff, Berkley and Kelvin cook all on the field at the same time, that would be fun to watch

Another interesting note, Jimbo Fisher is on the short list at Texas. I'm guessing that could have an effect on Ragnow.

When he becomes a gopher, Jones is going to give me heart attacks when he decides to cut back across the field and go 10-15 yards backfield to attempt to gain more yardage.

Probably only if Fisher takes Brew with him. That has to be very attractive package to Texas as they can regain the guy that brought them Vince Young:)

i don't think he will be doing that in the big ten, but yeah, reminds me of when Cordarrelle patterson would to that watching his Tennessee highlights

Texas fans really like Brew.

If Jimbo goes there, there will be threads on their message boards excited about Brew's return.

I kept hearing Chris Berman "WHOOP! WHOOP!" watching that kid. I was laughing out loud at those insane cuts. Amazing footwork. Great burst. Small, not elite speed...But interesting. Poor mans Jacquizz Rodgers? I thoroughly enjoyed watching the tiny Rodgers brothers destroy USC during their time at Oregon State. I'll leave it to kill and co on whether this Kelvin Cook can make it in the big 10. I say give him a shot.

Call me crazy but he reminds me a little of Troy Stoudermire. TS didn't have the stop-start this kid has, but in general there are a lot of similarities. Physically they're about the same size (TS was 5'10", 165lbs coming out of HS). TS, like this kid was a shifty, undersized High School QB who ran the ball a lot & was destined for a position change. I could see this kid, like TS do returns and play come corner if he has the toughness. One thing you couldn't measure about TS was his toughness, the dude was a badasz.

Another thought, he could be a plan 'B' to Craig James, who's also a potential return man & about the same size as Cook?

Cook isn't "under the radar", he's simply lightly recruited. Colerain puts out D1 kids yearly and (as noted by others in this thread) Scales plays for the same team. Cook was at the Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and West Virginia camps this year. Maybe something has changed between the end of July and now (ex: eligibility questions cleared up) to make him more desirable. Everett Williams is a Gopher commit in much the same mold in that he goes to high school in an area where there are no secrets. He attended camp (and Junior day) at Texas. That's not to say Williams (or Cook) can't play, just that other programs are certainly aware of them and decided not to offer.

Shaking my head...this is true and so sad for the football world and us in particular.

I'm hearing that WR Brayden Lenius is on the Gophers radar. He's another under the radar guy. He goes to the same high school as JoJo McIntosh. Big guy, 6'5", he's from Canada, moved to L.A. for his senior year. Interesting story.

Thanks for the links on Lenius. Looks like an interesting prospect that is flying below the radar. I found the CBS story interesting mostly because I remember Eldridge Dickey and the whole black QB thing from the 1960s.

Just saw on the ESPNU ticker that Iowa got a 4star QB to flip from a Rutgers verbal. Welcome to e Big Ten Rutgers.

His offer list doesn't coincide with his 4 star rating. He dropped Rutgers last month apparently and only has the Iowa offer as far as AQ schools.

This is why you recruit great d-line and linebackers with speed, power, and the willingness to put a man down.

The Vikes have the #1 back in football and have lost more than half the games he has played in. Dean is right, great backs can be beat by great teams!

I hate this part of the "dead" period doldrums. Are recruits allowed to commit during this time?

I'm pretty sure they could commit at any time. They're not signing a letter of intent or anything. They're just announcing it. Nothing official.

Here are the rules for a dead period.
During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.
My guess is that if they can talk on the phone they can commit.
