Based on what I've read about Elmore, I think he is willing to play where ever he will best benefit the team.

Elmore wants to be a TE, is a great TE, and will be given every chance to succeed there before moving him will be considered.

Dovavahn Jones wanted to be a QB, but he was willing to be a WR instead and look at where it got him. If DE is going to be where he can make the most impact, he'll be a DE.

I don't disagree with this. My point was that he will be tried at TE first and that is where he wants to play. His twitter feed says as much.

If elmore is as athletic as i believe he will be. He will make the offense hard to stop. Him and Max would be 2 real good targets

Bottocelli and Roland are barely 290, they definitely aren't NTs

Yeah, I don't consider them to be NTs, they don't play like NTs and they certainly aren't built like them. I could be wrong, but I really don't think we play a traditional NT.

Elmore will be a DE, it's the position he is better at.

Why do people keep saying this? Is it based on him being All State DE or is there something else? I am genuinely curious.

If it's based on the All State stuff, I wouldn't read into that too much. DE is a much easier position in HS to rack up big stats than TE (especially in smaller schools who might not throw the ball as much).

I'd imagine it's what you said and that B. Edwards was injured. Either way it means Matilus spent a year away from the LB position where he was already being leapfrogged by younger and less experienced players so I think it's safe to assume he won't seriously be in the mix at LB next season, if at all. Also, for clarification I wasn't saying will be the FB next season, just saying he could be the FB next season. Someone's got to win the job, why not Matilus?

The chances of him leapfrogging someone at FB is about the same as him leapfrogging someone at LB. I don't think anyone had an issue with you saying that he could end up a FB, it was the matter-of-fact nature about his move to FB that people disputed.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. I wonder if the staff moved him there so he could better simulate big backs like Weisman and Zwinak? That would make sense.

Unfortunately for Matilus, it's a position where we need someone on Scout but we have a lot of depth. I'd imagine he would be the same style of a runner as Williams or Kirkwood. I hope he finds a position, he really sounds like a player who works his tail off. I think this is his second year being named Scout Team Player of the Year and he plays his butt off on special teams.

I can't speak for others, but I think part of the reason I think one of them will move to DE is that we have a ton of TE's right now. Assuming all three sign and no one transfers, we would have 8 TE's on scholarship. That's a lot even for this offense, isn't it?

Where is Plsek (sp?) in the mix? I heard good things about him last year but did not really notice this year.

I wouldn't automatically count Gibson as a TE. He has the most position versatility of any of this year's current commits. I could see him at DE, LB, or TE.

And even if you do count him as a TE, I don't think 8 is excessive when you count these guys as the depth chart for both TE and fullback/H-back. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Lingen move to OL at some point down the road.

He played a lot, but they didn't throw his way much if at all. He was always destined to be a blocking TE and they threw to him a few times in 2012 out of necessity.

We have at least 6 players in front of Matilus on the depth chart at LB and probably more since he's now a year removed from even practicing at the position. At FB we graduate the starter and to my knowledge there is no depth chart at all. We have some TE's who play some H-Back, but no real FB behind Henry. I guess Gabe Mazenga did play there a bit when Henry was hurt? I think it's much more realistic that Matilus could beat out Gabe Mazenga than I do him leapfrogging all those younger, linebackers that are ahead of him.

His move to Offense had been mentioned and discussed a bit on GopherIllustrated for the previous week. I wasn't aware I was breaking the news.

This. He's a blocking TE and will probably never catch many passes. He's still a very valuable player.

He just tweeted that he's giving it another day, so we'll hear tomorrow now.

My primary rationale is that it's much easier to find a TE than it is to find a pass-rushing DE, especially if you're not one of the top 20 teams getting your pick of the litter. The coaches have said as much that they look for defensive lineman first and build out, as college d-lineman with the combination of size and technique are really hard to find.

Baylor didn't offer on his visit and NIU's not big time enough I believe, leaving USF and Minnesota. I suspect he and Mom are having some serious discussions right now because she wants him studying in Minnesota with Coach Kill and he wants to be partying in SoFla with the girls and palm trees. Mom will win. My .02

A poster this morning at GI said getting Hill could be to DE, what getting Wilson was to our MLB this year. I like the sound of that.

If true, I hope recruits are smart enough to recognize the irony in him saying that.
