Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Holland is tearing it up today. It's only a matter of time he gets some bigger offers IMO.

I think he'd be a great get for the Gophers, hopefully he stays under the radar. I'm guess some schools trying to fill their last few slots take notice though.

Priority target list for 10 remaining spots IMO( random sources, not including players committed to other schools)
#1 Frank Ragnow, OT
#2 Tegray Scales, LB
#3 Craig James, CB
#4 Melvin Holland, WR
#5 Cody Poock, LB
#6 Rodney Smith, RB
#7 Patrick Porter, CB
#8 J'Vonte Herrod, RB
#9 Martavious Mims, CB
#10 James Folston, LB

No Demetrius Hill?

Luke Rasmussen has committed too. MOAR COMMITS!!

Kid looks really smart. Is the 33 ACT on rivals correct? Wow. Had some interest from bigger schools but no big time offers. Could surface in a couple years.

So that's 13 commits? How many are available? 18-20?

Think the 33 is correct (he has offers from Penn, Harvard and Yale).

I did. not include Hill because I am convinced he is going to South Florida.

Dorian Baker is surely #2, with Demetrius Kemp and Cortez in the top 10. Wouldn't be surprised if Folston is out of the picture with Poock on board.

This is always a hard question to answer because of players leaving early etc. Based on the scholarship grid below and including the three new verbals today we have three slots left. The Gopher coaches have have indicated that they may over sign an additional three players which would mean we would mean we would then have room for six mores recruits. Since we have 21 seniors on scholarship next year it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up gray shirting a couple of players.

Did not include players committed currently to other schools like Baker and Kemp. Agree on Folston who was #10 to start with. With Blasingame committed it is less likely Gophers sign another safety. CB more of a priority.

What about the RB Derron Thompson? He is superior to Herrod or smith and we just need to beat out Colorado state and Kansas state, and Patrick Porter needs to be higher, he has a better offer list then any of our current commits or the guys you named with the exception of ragnow, he has over 10 BCS offers including a couple of SEC schools

When Kill was interviewed recently he said they expected to sign 18-20 kids, so 5-7 spots remaining.

I'm hoping for at least 2 of Baker, Holland and Gentry. Ragnow is obviously on the top of the list. Along with Kemp and Scales. Probably looking at getting one of Porter, James and Mims. As well as one of Smith and Herrod.

My best case would be:
Baker
Gentry
Holland
Ragnow
Scales
Kemp
James
Herrod

I really like the three big athletic receivers the Gophers are recruiting. Call me greedy but I want all 3.

Porter's 247 rating is 0.79 whereas James' is 0.84. Also a lot more chatter about James. Smith's rating is 0.84 and listed more on crystal ball than Thompson(0.83) and Herrod(0.81) who seems leaning towards Appalachian St.

It's subjective of course, but my take is he's more likely to commit to any of his other top schools NIU (close to home), Baylor (academics, warm weather) or Minnesota than S Fla. Hill is a kid who fell in love with the palm trees on his visit (that his Mom was not on), but Mom fell in love with the Minnesota coaches, the academics and the opportunities.

We need a CB but other than that the best players available regardless of position. It's great that we are to that point Kill has done a nice job building depth.

Thompson is on the back burner. With Jones looking more and more like a Gopher, it appears they've moved their focus to a bigger back or more physical type of back.

What about RB Derron Thompson?

Thompson works too. I actually prefer him to Herrod. I just forgot about him.

Edit: Scratch that. Hill, the JUCO D End, is higher on my list than both the above mentioned RBs. I guess I'm struggling to keep all the recruits in order today.

James Folston to Pitt.
