Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Jack Lynn went from the future at ILB, to not playing at all, to potentially being usurpsed by a JUCO.

That said, Damien Wilson will be here for another year, so unless Mr. Russell is a SO JUCO or he can play WILL, I'm not sure why he'd come here to sit for a year.

I was always surprised that Lynn, a kid who played OLB and WR in high school, suddenly found himself as a Big Ten MLB as a freshman.

My guess would be that Wipson ends up at MLB, Lynn slides outside, and Mr. Russell takes over at the strong side for Hill next year. Other than Wilson, who do we have on the current roster that's ready to be an every down LB next year?

campbell?

Anyone who thinks Kill's absence isn't hurting recruiting is delusional

If you can show me any evidence that it is hurting recruiting I would love to hear it?

You don't need evidence when you just know it, man! Also, there's a very logical way in which his absence could hurt recruiting, therefore it definitely is.

If not having a head coach doesn't hurt us on gameday and it doesn't hurt us in recruiting, I'm really starting to wonder why we pay millions of dollars to have a head coach at all.

Big difference between not having a head coach at all and having a head coach temporarily on leave. If it ends up being a long-term thing, there will be problems and changes will be made.

It isn't helping any though.

No one will be able to "prove" anything until a kid comes out and say's that was the reason for not coming here. What are the odds that is going to happen I wonder?

It is an issue, just as it was in Mich. St. and Florida. All we can do is hope it doesn't become a bigger issue and things go back to normal soon.

Or we start winning and then other problems start to take care of themselves.

Nobody has any idea what this means. That's the problem.

I don't get what is so hard to understand. He's getting treatment for epilepsy. Teague and Claeys have said they expect him back soon. Of course that timeline is a little fuzzy, but we haven't heard anything that should suggest it's going to be a long time, i.e. the rest of the season or longer. Kill and his staff have been honest with recruits and what they are telling them has caused 0 decommitments so far. Official visits are a fluid thing but as far as I'm aware no recruit targets have cancelled their visit within the past few weeks. No reason to panic.

How do you know that? Just because they don't say a lot publicly doesn't mean they don't have somewhat of an idea of when they expect him to return.

As far as if recruiting is hurt by Kill not being with the team, I'm sure it does in some way. The question is how much? It could be very minor because of it hopefully being for a short time or it could be a big deal. We have no clue.

Per a quote from a Ryan Burns article on GI, Christian Russell is probably down to Minnesota, Tennessee and Kentucky with Minnesota on top currently. He says that a Minnesota offer would be hard to turn down.

"Russell enrolled at East Mississippi last January and remained there through two sessions of summer school. According to Jones, he's produced a grade point average of "around 3.0 or 2.9'' and is on schedule to receive his associate degree in arts in December.
Earning the diploma will make Russell eligible to transfer to a four-year program, where he'll have three years of eligibility."

This article was written over a year ago. I'm guessing he only has 2 years left.
