Kevin Whaley shows great fight -- with police officers

Why am I so full of *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# ??

Because your argument that it came up because of Tinsley's behavior doesn't add up. If the media did such serious digging after a guy waved a stick and ran from the cops then why did nothing further come out after the rape allegations 2 years ago? Surely, using your logic, you guys would have dug to the core of the earth to find some more dirt on the program. Or, with the garbage that you produce, I'm sure something will come out in 10 years, at which point you will still be irrelevant and out of job.

doogie you are avoiding my question which I think is a fair question.

Well...now we know why Whaley was not playing the first 2 or 3 games (can't remember if he was in the Cal game)..

The incident in the press happened last November, so this wouldn't be due to that (because he was in the Syracuse game). Either the turf toe was legit, which Brew says it was, or they sat him down internally for something else??? I guess we have no reason to not believe Brew, since he has been truthful about other things.

I hesitate to back you up here because I think Doogie is getting overly beaten on, but he didn't answer my question either. Somehow, I suspect that a good answer doesn't exist for either of us. :(

I posted earlier ... what is your question? Will see in a few hours, and attempt to answer ... about to head into the monsoon after wrapping up here w/ the Vikes.

Thank you! Did not know about turf toe and did not remember seeing him in Syracuse game.

Anyways...kinda lame to exploit old news on a student. Media fails to appreciate that these are kids and are going to occasionally misbehave. Just report the story and keep the malicious comments to themselves.

are you blind? here is my question which I have now asked 3 times

my question was why haven't you written an attempt at humorous piece about dubay? you write about sports in the strib as a media memember so why not write about a sports media member on gh? do it as a front page piece. use the police reports for fodder. you did it about a college kid who is a known name, so why not about a sports media personality who is a known name? dubay has given you more material to work with. if you arent going to write this I am curious why not? seems to be the type of thing that would be consistent and fair. or does the media just slam athletes and not themselves? i eagerly await the piece on dubay.

sonnygarcia -- your take is misconstrued...in no way is it a shot at their academic prowess, but let's be realistic: there are athletes present at all schools for one reason -- sports. Basketball players, from the conference tournament through the Final Four, might be in their houses/apartments a maximum of 5 days over the course of a month...maybe the better way to put = athlete-students.

Hello??! You don't need a Havard degree to figure that one out. Were you one of those jealous students in college that wished they were an athlete? Just because the student-athletes are not at home, doesn't mean they don't have to complete coursework. Heck, I know that the Alaska-Anchorage hockey teams spends a couple of weeks at a time in the lower 48 states during the season on road trips. You're making assumptions again without proof or any type of research. Why not actually interview players, coaches, or academic advisors on what student-athletes actually do to help with this issue of travel?????? It would actually be interesting.

Oops, I might have just lead to the next Strib article.

Agreed. Kent had a story about it, and as the Gopher beat writer, it should have been left at that. But no, the STrib had to allow Fat Pat and Doogie to go throw a couple vile articles out there for good measure.

I think you need to start using the hybrid thread view so that you can more easily follow conversations within a thread. Go4 posted a reply to your question...

buckshotmike -- agree, it's as big a game as Brewster has had here, but it is news this week...the Tinsley incident has caused many media members to do some serious digging...and that's how the Whaley news was discovered...just a coincidence that it's married with Wisconsin week.

Please explain the digging and discovery that went on to find a published article from less than a year ago.

That's completely true. The local media did a horrible job of missing this last year. Someone in the know delivered someone out of the know a grand ole' scoop. And it might have happened right here.

Didn't read this thread, don't want to. Quick question: is Whaley out for the game on Saturday?

I posted earlier ... what is your question? Will see in a few hours, and attempt to answer ... about to head into the monsoon after wrapping up here w/ the Vikes.

Nice try Doogie. You don't want to answer the question. I followed this damn thread for three pages trying to find and answer and you just so happened to miss this one?

Doogie,

Im not even denying that players getting in trouble isnt newsworthy. I have a problem with you
1. rehashing exactly what is in the already anti gopher writer fat pats article and 2. making a joke about it and 3. failing to use your position at the tribune to write a nice, knowledgable peace about the game.

You of all writers knows the fight the University's football program has had with the media over the last 20 or so years. Im sure you're aware of the KFAN vs. Brewster tiff last week. Its tiresome. You, as an alumni and frequent contributor to Rube Nation has an obligation to the school to write the opposite of what everyone else writes. Its still newsworthy. Your blog or whatever tells nothing different from Reusse's article....and we all expected that article to happen. What we expect and need from you is a damn article about the game!!!!

My anger doesnt come from you or the article specifically. The casual fan needs to read objective peices about the program...the good things....the things that only the rubes know about. Build excitement....use your position. You have that ability.

Because Dubay didn't strike an officer, wrestle another officer onto Hennepin Ave. during gridlock traffic, and swear numerous times at officers, threatening them in the process.

Get over it. Whaley did his thing in Dec. was punished and has been a good kid since. Get off his back and hope he learned his lesson. I don't think Murray W.ever suspended anyone but that doesn't mean they weren't punished. What he made players do would probably not be tolerated today, but it worked and most guys learned. Tow the line or face the MAN.

Because Dubay didn't strike an officer, wrestle another officer onto Hennepin Ave. during gridlock traffic, and swear numerous times at officers, threatening them in the process.

And yet his crimes were considered worse by our society/legal system when you compare the punishment given to each offender.

Prepare for some gibberish:

This isn't the first time that a member of the media used a post from the Gopher Hole in their article but I do believe this is the first time one of them has been given credit. There's an elderly gentleman at the Strib who has routinely purged blurbs from this site, sometimes word-for-word, and never given credit. Of course, it would be nice if the quote was on a better subject but it is what it is... If you post something here you have to expect to potentially be called out on it, whether it be on the board or in the paper. Some posters are saving the last post you made when you were upset only so they can throw it back in your face at the end of the season or two years from now, it happens.

It's an f-in blog! It's his thoughts, random or otherwise, which is what a blog is. It's not a news piece it's an editorial. I don't like it but I would prefer our players didn't get themselves into these situations in the first place. You will never have a team of angels, the law of averages just doesn't support it. There's ~100 players on the team and there's bound to be a few who get into trouble doing something stupid. Most people know at least a handful of people who received minor consumptions or 5th degree assault charges when they were in college but those people most likely weren't in the public eye. I'm not excusing it but compared to what we observed with Dominic Jones a few years ago, I couldn't care less about this.

No offense intended, but using a Gopherhole forum opinion does seem lacking in authoritative ring! Kinda funny actually! But if you want the fans opinion, you gotta admit a forum is a great place to find it.

Because Dubay didn't strike an officer, wrestle another officer onto Hennepin Ave. during gridlock traffic, and swear numerous times at officers, threatening them in the process.

Again, if it was really as dramatic as the report insists he wouldn't have gotten off with a slap on the wrist.

I think everyone should think about this seriously......... your contributions will go to putting some $$$ in the pocket of someone who, during the biggest week for Gopher football, would rather try to smear the team with year old information rather than writing something more constructive about the game itself. Pathetic.

I agree, that's a horses ass move, Doogie. Talk about sinking low.

At least you dare show your face here after that, takes some cahonas; but that's a low blow that only you and the rest of the Twin Cities' media would try to pull off. I'd like to tell you where to go, but chances are you're already on your way there after selling your soul.

Maybe you could post it after the game, if you so feel the need to post about something a year old?! I mean, it went a year without causing anyone any harm - it certainly didn't harm you, yet you purposely went out and harmed the program right before the big game on an old topic - if the University of Minnesota could disown you, it should. Shame on you.

I have since changed my tone, I will be donating after the Badger game, the people of the Board do a great service to Gopher fans, I just hope a light flicks on in Doogies head (highly doubtful) or they boot his @ss off the team. God I can't tolerate people that go out of their way to stop the advancement of the program!!!

I just found this thread and I read as much of it as I can tolerate. I just want to say that at this point that there are a few things I would like to see.
1. Kevin Whaley rush for well over 100 yards against the Wisky.
2. Kim Royston have a career day worthy of an All American safety.
3. Tinsley to have a huge game and not because some other Gopher doesn't or is hurt.
4. Doogie to disappear from "Gopher Nation" forever.

This act is so incredibly shameless. Doogie, please go away.

Oh yeah,
5. Decker's specialty taking out the entire Wisky D and coaching staff. (Yes, I am that immature) I still dislike Wisky more than Doogie (maybe). No, it's a tie.

Doogie,
Why would you choose to write something so negative and try to smear the program during the biggest week of the year? You do realize that this happened a year ago? I don't care if you just found out, wait till after the WI game to spread your crap because u should have found out a year ago when it happened, o wait you found out on a message board. If you can wait a year to find something out, you could surely have waited a week to write some crap-a$s out of date article. So, please explain why you just had to write this article right now during the most important week of the year?

Too Bad

Isn't it too bad that Kevin Whaley got into another fight after the Syracuse game at Blarney's. Too bad he pissed off the wrong people. Too bad that info was posted on the gopherhole board which resulted in the police report from being posted on this board from his halloween incident from last year. Too bad that the press finally picked up this info so everyone now what kind of kid he can be. Too bad Whaley got into another fight while still on probation.Too bad he is too angery or stupid to know the consequences of his actions. It would be too bad if his probation was revoked and he had to go jail. Hopefully, Whaley and the rest of the Gopher football team get their act together and beat the Badgers. It would be too bad if one bad apple spoils the barrow of apples.
