All Things Royce White Thread UPDATED 10/25: Royce cut by 76ers

Yes, hopefully Royce turns it around. But he is absolutley insufferable the way he milks this anxiety.

I personally get tired of Royce talking about how the whole world is out to get him and what a hurt individual he is and no one understands and no one cares. People are usually fine giving symptathy as long as you aren't constantly begging for it. It's like that friend many people have on Facebook who every 4 minutes has all these "woe-is-me" statuses and it is just obnoxious. Complaing on twitter never helped anyone, go out and make a real difference.

Get medical help for your anxiety, medication, counseling, etc. Then play in the NBA where you will make millions, then use that millions to start foundations and raise more money and help people that way. Countless twitter rants is not the way to change the world.

Yeah, it's not like he's gotten a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th chance to continue his basketball career. Oh, wait...

You must hate mbakwe

The way Mbakwe and White have handled their challenges is completely opposite.

Trevor claimed his innocence and sat out for a year, rarely (I don't want to say never, because there could be a situation I don't recall) blaming anyone for the situation.

Royce complained, made YouTube videos, dropped out of school, and blamed the police. Lately he has gotten into arguments with many media members on twitter about how unfairly he is being treated and how sad it is to be him and how no one understands.

IMO, I don't hate Royce for what he's done. Heck, I still cheer for Vick and MWP and they are not choir boys either.

Royce turns people off by how he handles his adversity. Always blaming everyone but himself. It's the UMPD's fault, it's my friends fault, it's Maturi's fault, it's the Rockets fault. Wait you don't buy it's their fault? Well I have anxiety and you just don't understand.

You must hate mbakwe

You totally missed the point of my post. The fact that White is acting like a victim and that no one cares is ridiculous because he's gotten so many chances. If no one cared, then his career would have ended long ago.

Mbakwe doesn't act like that.

Because only the common person that doesn't play a professional sport has problems.

I wonder when the last time Royce wondered where his next meal was coming from? When did he last wonder where his bed would be tonight (ok, he's probably done this at the bar a few times!)? This guy is a spoiled brat and everyone around him enables his behavior. Time for tough love.

Not the first time you should heed Kenny Rogers:

"You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,"

Lol true story! Lol, I just don't know why so many keep talking about a guy on a gopher message board that didn't play a single minute, leave the guy alone and move on, I am so surprised so many are still butt hurt by it

Who the hell is this Royce White dude?

My name is Dr.Don, I suffer from all kinds of afflictions not related to STD's and do I ever get any help??? Well.... Depends, which I pay for myself.

I just don't know why so many keep talking about a guy on a gopher message board that didn't play a single minute

Lots of Rockets fans are talking about him and he hasn't played a minute for them either.

Royce- My #anxiety is fine, besides being disappointed in the communication, and worried about consistency and the effect that has on my health.

If his anxiety is fine quit crying that the Rockets didn't give you a chance/playing time and get down to Rio to play with the Vipers.

Then go to the rockets MSG board and bitch because I would prefer we talked about gopher basketball an gopher alum, Royce is neither

Royce seems to be a troubled young man. I hope he eventually figures things out. It would be a shame if he wasted his God-given talent.

Yep they made it in 2011, sorry continue bitching about a kid that didn't play a minute for the gophers. I will leave this Convo so you can continue banging your head against a wall I apologize I was wrong

Royce........what a piece of work. I personally hope he pulls it together. Doubt it though.

Thank you Rodney Williams for coming to the U of M and being a great player and model citizen. I remember how excited I was when you both signed.

CBS: Royce White vs. the Houston Rockets: Nobody wins

In its simplest form, it's the old "conduct detrimental to the team" clause. By launching public attacks against the Rockets -- tweet after tweet, non-stop, for two days -- White sadly has crossed that line.

Even sadder, he's made it nearly impossible for the people who are in a position to help him -- his agent, the National Basketball Players Association, and yes, the Rockets -- to do so.

There have been high-level talks among union officials and White's representatives about how, if at all, they can defend him against the Rockets' decision to fine him, league sources said. But White's intransigence and social media barrage have made it painfully difficult for them to come to his aid.

Go Gophers!!

This was like a slow motion accident that you could see was happening, but no one could stop. I see how Royce is trying to bring awareness to anxiety, but there are more positive ways of doing so. If he could somehow get back into the league, play the way we all know he can play, and be quiet...his reach would be so massive for anxiety, and he could do a lot of good for it.

Royce is bringing a whole lot of attention to Anxiety Disorder now with all of these tweets...it's being covered all over by media. Royce may have a plan and its working. He's out smarting everybody for a good cause.

No kidding! He's even making me a little anxious.

Well, if that plan includes getting extensive fines for completely skipping practice, being reassigned to the D-league and then complaining about other guys beating him out for playing time, then yeah, I'd say it's working perfectly.

Probably because there's a sticky thread that the moderators have decided should stay here for all time dedicated to "All things Royce White"?

Are you serious? I hope not. I have employees with medically diagnosed anxiety issues who come to work everyday and do their jobs well. If I only knew Royce and not them, no way in hell would I hire someone with an anxiety disorder.

He is doing a HUGE disservice for people who struggle with anxiety disorders.

+1 I'm wondering how in the hell was he able to avoid the drama in Ames for that long.

I was thinking the same thing, Mulligan. Don't want to be skeptical, but this makes me wonder how much stuff was kept hush-hush or swept under the rug @ Iowa State. Not saying NCAA rule-breaking type stuff, just the off the court stuff that became his MO during his Gopher "career."

.

Agree.

The Rockets intend to fine rookie Royce White for every day he remains away from the team or does not attend sessions with a therapist arranged by the team, according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.

White, the 16th pick in June's draft, has remained absent from the team in a dispute over how the Rockets are helping him confront his anxiety disorder.

Rockets owner Leslie Alexander on Tuesday said that there were "internal repercussions" for White missing practices and games.

The Rockets have arranged for White to be treated by Dr. Aaron Fink of Baylor College of Medicine, but White has not attended those sessions, according to the Chronicle. White reportedly has expressed concerns to Fink that the problem between himself and the Rockets is about "support" rather than anxiety.

"In hindsight, perhaps it was not a good idea to be open and honest about my anxiety disorder -- due to the current situations at hand that involve the nature of actions from the Houston Rockets," White said in a statement released by his publicist Tuesday night. "As a rookie, I want to settle into a team and make progress, but since [the] preseason, the Rockets have been inconsistent with their agreement to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship."

The 6-foot-8 White made a deal with the team to travel by bus to some games this season, so he could confront his fear of flying and obsessive compulsive disorder over the long term. He flew with the team to its season opener in Detroit, then traveled by bus to games at Atlanta and Memphis.

White, who's yet to play in a game, did not attend Monday's game against Miami, Tuesday's practice or Wednesday's game with New Orleans. He says on his Twitter account that the Rockets have been "inconsistent" in helping him.

The Rockets have no plans to trade or release White, according to the Chronicle. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

The real problem is about support? What has he done for the Rockets to trust him? One-way street with this kid, glad Tubby showed him the door.

Freddie gave Royce everything he wanted.

This reflex poorly on Fred, without him word the Rockets would not have take this risk.

I'm curious what the Rockets have done to be inconsistent about creating this healthy and successful relationship. I mean, they can't bend over backwards for the kid, he's still just a rookie, he's not a phenom joining a college program as the best player anymore. They went out on a limb to sign him, I think he has to give them a little bit too, that's only fair.
