All Things Royce White Thread UPDATED 10/25: Royce cut by 76ers

Royce has reached a new chapter of his life, where if something goes wrong there are no second chances. He will be held accountable for his mistakes off the court and his basketball career could come to an end. Royce has made mistakes every step of the way and that behavior becomes habit. I don't know if Royce can overcome his fear of flying or not. It just seems like talking to the media every chance he gets about his anxiety, is the wrong way to go about it. There is no reason why Royce White should be the main headline on ESPN right now. It almost seems like he is saying. "Oh, I have anxiety so if something goes wrong and I mess up again it's because of my mental illness." I wish Royce the best, but don't do Skype interviews with Myron or talk to the media about your stress levels. Keep personal issues private and just play ball! It's as if he is already coming up with a scapegoat for the liklehood of another blunder.

Because sh!t like THIS happens!

"In a lot of areas, we're actors," White said with a smile. "The camera doesn't frighten me. Planes do."

He is a rookie, what the hell is he talking about.

Hope he enjoys Hidalgo. Maybe it is an Hispanic version of Ames.

I think it is now about 50/50 he will play a minute in the NBA.

It's a sad thing for a guy dealing with all the anxiety issues. It's even worse that so many gopher fans appear to be happy Royce is failing with basketball after he left the U. I wish the kid the best and I really hope he can manage his anxiety.

Oh Royce

@daldridgetnt: In statement, @Highway_30 says Rockets have been "inconsistent" w/agreement "to proactively create a healthy and successful relationship."

@daldridgetnt: White says Rockets "are aware of my position and the reason for my absence, any other response is inaccurate."

@daldridgetnt: White says lack of support will make him unhealthy, "and that is not a consequence that I am willing to accept to play any sport."

@Highway_30: I'm most defiantly not AWOL... There are many things here ppl don't know, #Honesty is what I'm sticking with. @HoustonRockets "Luke 12:3"

@Highway_30: Problem goes back WAY before D-League assignment. This about #Consideration and #Health it isn't about Rebounds & Money.

His meltdown is happening as we speak. Could be the first Twitter retirement in NBA history.

Just in case anyone was wondering:

Luke 12:3 (King James Version)

Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

I am very sensitive to Royce's anxiety issues, but it's too bad someone hasn't told him to stop using Twitter to communicate his feelings. The best thing for Royce would be to find someone he trusts to offer guidance and for Royce to actually follow his/her instructions.

Here are some more tweets:

I informed the #Rockets of every practice I was going to miss. There were no unexplained misses.

Again My "Anxiety" is not well but not BAD, my main WORRY is being treated as a digit instead of a HUMAN, in the case of my health.

While #anxiety is the issue, the main piece of that isn't AIRPLANES, it's asking for support 4 my disorder thats consistent and fair.

It's sad to think ppl ACTUALLY think  should be higher on my priority list then health..you can't enjoy success OR money without health.

I'd waste my "Talent", to stand up for myself and what's right, regarding my health 10x's out 10. #Logical Player "Commodity" league.

"your a COMMODITY" and "we'll support your health needs even if its inconvenient..." just don't go. My health can't afford such an ideal.

I can't believe people are still falling for his act. How many times does he have to yank the football away before you stop trusting him Charlie Brown?

Agree - Sad that people feel the need to express such hate towards a young guy with this disorder. Most of it is complete ignorance on their part.

I agree with you in that I hope that he can manage his anxiety. However, I also hope he fails at basketball. I just want the reason he fails to be that he is a trouble-maker who only looks out for number one, not something health related. The man is a multiple time thief and a bully who likes to assault people half his size. He has had more chances at a great career than a lot of people who have never stolen a dime in their life. If he wanted more sympathy, maybe he should have behaved better when he was at the U. I'll save my pity for the security guard who was violently assaulted by Royce, and is also not going to be playing for the Houston Rockets this year.

I'd gladly be a commodity for a multi-year multi-million dollar guaranteed contract.

Violently assaulted? How many bones were broken? How many stitches were needed? Last I read Royce pushed a security guard. Maybe a violent shove? Lol everything is "violent" in the media. These anxiety disorders can cause a lot of different behaviors.

If you have decided to cheer for failure because of a troubled past you better stop watching sports altogether!

Damien Johnson sounds off

@VIPJohnson34: "@hoopshype: Update: Royce White sounds off. http://t.co/FwOILfOn"smh

I could not agree more. He should not be actively tweeting, it is a bit surpising that any counsel would support that.

Lot's of people have lots of reasons to cheer against athletes. Some people cheer against Tebow because of his faith. I choose to cheer against people who do bad things (and those who play for teams in Wisconsin). A draw a big line between offenses that seem to have no victim (like underage drinking or recreational use of a certain illegal plant) and offenses that actually have victims. Also, he committed his bad acts in a way that embarassed my school.

As for "violently", its been a while since I've seen the security footage (I watched it when the story was current, I haven't been able to find a link since), but I seem to remember more than a shove. I thought it looked like Royce threw the guard to the ground. If I'm wrong on that, I'm sorry for exagerating in my characterization of the assault. Either way, if the best defense of him was that he only assaulted the guard a little bit as he was shoplifting, I'm still unimpressed.

Are u cheering for mbakwe to fail this year? I'm motivated to cheer for the troubled guys to turn their life around rather then to cheer them to get worse just my opinion

Yes, hopefully Royce turns it around. But he is absolutley insufferable the way he milks this anxiety.

I personally get tired of Royce talking about how the whole world is out to get him and what a hurt individual he is and no one understands and no one cares. People are usually fine giving symptathy as long as you aren't constantly begging for it. It's like that friend many people have on Facebook who every 4 minutes has all these "woe-is-me" statuses and it is just obnoxious. Complaing on twitter never helped anyone, go out and make a real difference.

Get medical help for your anxiety, medication, counseling, etc. Then play in the NBA where you will make millions, then use that millions to start foundations and raise more money and help people that way. Countless twitter rants is not the way to change the world.

Gets beat out & quits coming to practice. What a piece of work.

White began to express his dissatisfaction a week ago, according to the person familiar with talks, initially complaining about a lack of opportunity to earn playing time.

White met extensively with Rockets general manager Daryl Morey assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff and assistant strength and conditioning coach Dave Macha last Wednesday, and again with Morey on Thursday.

White has not played in any game this season and has been on the inactive list for the past four games. Morey told White in those meetings that other players had earned playing time before him. White, however, argued that he was not given enough opportunity to demonstrate that he could earn a place in the rotation, increasingly saying the Rockets were holding his anxiety disorder against him and that he was being treated as a commodity, a position he has repeated in Tweets following Tuesday’s reports about White missing practices.

I'd gladly be a commodity for a multi-year multi-million dollar guaranteed contract.

the first time I felt like a commodity in my career I was working about 10-12 hours a day for $23,000 per year. No 2nd year guaranteed either. I am guessing most people feel like that in their first job, then they realize that life is just that way.

Royce White doesn't have the first clue what real problems are.

Royce White doesn't have the first clue what real problems are.

Because only the common person that doesn't play a professional sport has problems. I would be willing to bet nearly everyone on gopherhole would be loving Royce if he would have entered the draft as a gopher! Since he was able to be the guy at istate that we wanted here, many of you will continue to trash the guy. I'm in the minority that wants him and everyone else to find success. If he fails, maybe he goes the street route and is robbing your kids, wife, etc etc. he failed at the U, lets move on
