All Things RB Jeffrey Jones Thread

I love the official reference to "...talking to someone very familiar with the situation saying..." In other words, here's some gossip.

Even if he does go to juco, we would never know if these people really were "close to the situation" or if they really knew anything.

Whether he ever becomes a Gopher or not, 362,863 views for an 18-year-old kid is impressive. Staggered when I noticed that number.

The NCAA clearinghouse uses a sliding scale that combines your GPA (in core courses only) and your ACT sum score, not just the composite average. So when we hear he got a 19 on the re-test, that's not really that informative. Assume for a minute he got 19 on all four sections, that's a ACT SUM of 76. The minimum GPA is 2.3, though if you do better on the ACT you can still get year one eligibility. His GPA is probably in the 2.175 range.
He needs to get north of 2.3, with that ACT SUM 76 to make it, so reports that he needs .2 GPA increase are probably accurate.

If he is allowed to replaced a 2 C grades from the past, and he can get two B grades, he should, in theory be at 2.3 (up from 2.175). So he is literally right on the line.

I don't accept that he will make it. If he isn't in Kill's doghouse, he should be with the low ACT score. So, even if he did arrive on campus, he would be my nominee for the loafer shirt.

im gonna side with the poster who stated if Sum school didn't provide an opportunity he wouldn't continue with it...assuming he is still attending. Its up to the Washburn staff Ms. Krabapple to give the kid an A and end it. Kaler/Kill agree to stop into Washburn each fall for the next 3 yrs for school kick off.

Yes, let's invite academic fraud and really show we're all about helping kids learn to do the right thing and be better men.

The 247 guys were not part of my original quote. When have Marcus, Doogie, Shama or Fuller ever "gossiped" about the situation?
They may or may not have on this story in particular, but Doogie is especially known for throwing crap against the wall to see if it sticks. Any time they say "Sources say..." or "Someone close the situation" it's not fact, it's just some hearsay opinion that may or may not be true.

at least provide one example where doogie was lying about having a source.

It's an unfortunate situation for the Gophers, but hopefully Jones goes Iowa Western, learns how to be a student, succeeds in the classroom, and comes back to the "U" in two years ready to make a big impact!

All of them have said that coach Jenkins has given them their info, not an anonymous source.

I don't like our chances of landing him a second time. Maybe that's just the Minnesota in me.

Doogie has a bad rep here ever since the Hoiberg situation. Most Gopherholers think it was BS. Yet, they have no way of knowing the truth.

They trust Teague in saying that they didn't pursue Hoiberg, which is ironic because Teague is notorious for covering that stuff up.

In short, GopherHolers hate Doogie for no apparent reason. What else is new?

Please check your sources. Doogie has a bad rep because of all the crap he spouts off on the Gophs. He is a wannabe and it has been well documented. Just go back and read any of the many Doogie is a jerk threads.

Doogie apologist.

Boohoo, all the media doesn't cater to our favorite team. It's not a fair sports market. Why do all the columnists have to say mean things about us? All we've done the past 4 decades is rack up division, conference, national titles so you'd think we'd be free from criticism.

JJ isn't going to end up in Madison, so what's your point?

So have all the other MN teams, right?

Doogie is a tool. Not fair to Marcus or Joe to include him in the same group. Remember when he was picking fights on twitter during a Bball game? Tool. T.O.O.L.

It's summer school you probably get an A for actually showing up. When I was a Para in college, the teacher I helped with threw in the Mini Series Roots everyday for about a Month.

Actually, I personally like our chances even more the second time. I think Jeff will feel a sense of loyalty to the Gophers since we never gave up recruiting him and took him regardless of the grade issues. Judging from his interviews (he's mentioned loyalty many times) and the fact that he stuck with his commitment here the first time around, I think he's a loyal kid. I fully expect him to be a Gopher after JUCO if he doesn't qualify after summer school. Hopefully he redshirts and has 3 years of eligibility instead of just two.

You really think that athletes don't have special admissions requirements? You think that a 2.5 and a 20 ACT is good enough to get into Minnesota if you're not a scholarship football players?

Heck, even Harvard has started lowering their admissions standards for hoops players. It's why the rest of the Ivy League hates Ammaker.

What exactly about my post where I said the student must get admitted through the normal process but the athletic department has some pull was confusing to you? Regardless of whether the student athlete is on the low end of the scale of admitted freshman or not, they still have to go through the same admission process. You know, fill out an application, etc. And we have lost recruits that didn't get admitted before...so it aint a rubber stamp.

I don't think this is a Minnesota issue as far as qualifying, rather the NCAA Clearing House. This is their formula, of grade point/ ACT ratio. It was thought at one time that the ACT, SAT were better predictors of academic success than grade point average. But in what only the NCAA could deem their wisdom, they came up with the formula to counter balance a ACT score with your grade point average. They know better. These are the same guys who make rulings on medical waivers, 6th year eligibility. Just think of some bureaucrat in cube somewhere, with no sense of urgency, scanning, printing, flipping papers, stamping this and stapling that. All the time student/athletes wait. At one time we were told waiting is part of your total education. We are waiting first for Mr. Jones to complete summer school, hopefully the final transcript can be sent electronically rather than by mail. Then the formula wizards will get to work, maybe just maybe the NCAA Clearinghouse will render there answer by the end of July. Till they announce his status the rest is pure speculation. I will say this Jeff is doing everything he can to change the input.
