Yes it is what? Mildly disturbing or the innate lack of intelligence?
Genius, you're not.

Maybe I am naive, but the fact that he is still taking summer courses means that there is still a possibility. I mean why would he do it otherwise? I am still holding onto hope.

I just have this to say about Jeff Jones. If he hasn't made it onto campus by now, I don't care what kind of football talent the kid has. Find a different place to start the college experience. Would love to have him on the team. But, it would be important for Jeff to put two strong academic years in before going to the U.
So to recap, are these still the options that have him in maroon/gold?
- Gets admitted/scholy this fall. The GPA does the trick.
- Doesn't get scholarship this year, but enrolls on own dime. Suits up Fall 2015.
- Two years at JUCO. Suits up Fall 2016.

BS. We're not talking about the failings of Minneapolis public schools in general, we're talking about one kid who everyone in his community wanted to see him pass. We're not talking about bringing his math and science test scores up enough to be an engineer, we're talking about a measly 20 on the ACT.

If it plays out that the second bullet happens, I call dibs on him being on my intramural flag football team. Everyone else, back off.
Of course it has "something" to do with the ACT as it is a combination of grades and ACT. There are plenty of kids at Washburn with a similar support system who got better grades and a better ACT score. Again, we're talking about the minimum standards for eligibility, not attempting to close the gap between Minneapolis public schools and Wayzata. It has nothing to do with his ACT. His grades let him down. That's on him and his support system. I scored a 19 on the ACT and got into the U. I got straight C's graduated and have done just fine in my career.
Read the posts on this forum. He doesn't have elite speed. He would do your team no good.
I'll compare my U of M diploma with yours. I still may only go to the MIAC games this year, which now qualifies me as a troll on GH. Oh well.

Which is why he is not the #1 back in the country and not the next AP because he doesn't have elite speed. No one ever said he isn't an absolute stud or isn't deserving of where he is ranked right now.
This is what I would do. He has the talent to go pro and easily pay back the debt that he would incur in the meantime with paying out of pocket Plus it allows him to take part in practice I believe and weight room instruction to get better for next year.
Scholarship students go through the normal admission process as well. The athletic department may have pull, but the kid still has to get admitted regardless of how he or she is paying for school.
The NCAA only looks at the GPA of 16 core classes. He is trying to improve those classes.

The U can choose to admit whoever they want and whoever they don't want. It is definitely in their best interest to admit Jeff.
If Jones isn't academically ready for the college courses at the U of M, he simply shouldn't be attending school here. I'd hate for him to have to either cheat in classes to stay eligible or to flunk out.
I'm really hoping Jones gets his approach to schoolwork figured out so whenever, or if he ever ends up at the U of M, he can succeed both on and off the field, like Coach Kill expects from his guys. I really hope he can still end up a Gopher, but if it's going to take a year or two in the grand scheme of things to get things figured out before he gets on the field for us, then so be it!
A cupcake college major is easier than high school. As long as you are sober enough and have the slightest bit of self respect to do the minimal work asked of you in some of these programs.
I don't think so. My kid coasted through High School without ever opening a book. I was truly worried when he went away to college. He adjusted nicely, but I think it was an ADJUSTMENT. High Schools just push these kids through. College is a little more strenuous, even for the cupcake majors. I remember standing outside with him after the HS ceremony as his friends rolled by giving high fives - it seemed like every fourth or fifth guy he would turn to me and say under his breath "I can't believe they graduated HIM".A cupcake college major is easier than high school. Same can be said high school grades and the ACT/SAT. Cupcake material for anyone who is college bound. As long as you are sober enough and have the slightest bit of self respect to do the minimal work asked of you in some of these programs.
