Contract Extension for Fleck

Yeah, of course most of the time is the same little handful of posters that are mostly around when things are going badly in the game but suddenly vanish when it turns around.
and conveniently that number dwindles as some of those members get banned for gang activity.

Will this finally be the proof that so many have been searching for? The proof that Fleck ACTUALLY means it when he says he wants to be here for the long haul.

Will some finally be able to let go of 35+ years of pain as they stare longingly at their 1985 media guide at the face of the one who was stolen away?

If Fleck wanted out of town he had a great opportunity in 2019, he signed an extension. If Fleck wanted out of town there would have been some great opportunities available 2021, he signed another extension.

He idolizes Fry and Alvarez.....he wants to do for Minnesota what those guys did for Iowa and Wisconsin. Time to start listening and tune out the National people that just want to assume he is gone the first chance he gets, because why would anyone want to stay at Minnesota?

He is a midwest guy, he loves the Big Ten, he has a great relationship with the AD, he has great support from the Administration, the state has embraced his Row the Boat Mantra, and he is in a division that he can absolutely compete in......He is truly building something special here. He may leave someday, but it isn't going to be anytime soon.

Let's Go!

I so hope you're right. It would be nice to find out that there are still people in this world who mean what they say.

If I was a coach, I'd aspire to be like Fry or Alvarez, rather than a coaching vagabond. Build something permanent, leave a legacy, get a freakin' statue.

This is really good news for recruiting. We'll see if he's sincere. We never got that from Glen Mason and that was his ultimate downfall. He couldn't recruit because he was not committed to staying.

This is the greatest news after all the turmoil in Minneapolis over the last two years!

Mark Coyle, thanks again for this transformative hire! We have been screaming for this for over forty years.

I hope that they also take care of the assistant coaches and staff.

Started a new thread with this video in it because I think it deserves its own, but in an effort to make sure as many people as possible see it, will post it here as well. Well worth the 15 minutes.

Unless there is a major scandal with it like the monkey of his stripper girlfriend attacking a kid
I cautiously entered that into my search engine. Holy shit!...That's a real story. I hadn't heard that.

There are a number of big time head coaching jobs opening up and this is a key year. I think if Fleck wanted to leave this would be his best time to do it. To build our program we need someone to stick around for a long time like Wisconsin and Iowa did.

Anyone can see Fleck gives us an edge in the modern NCAA. He is the guy who can get it done here.
STABILITY at last! Very well stated Gold Rush, very well put!

Fleck is in year 5 and this tells you how much our program has suffered.

"In his fifth season, Fleck is 10th already in school history in games coached (53) and sixth in wins (32). Fleck's .603 winning percentage is third best among the 11 Minnesota coaches with at least 45 games at the helm, trailing only Henry L. Williams (.786, 1900-21) and Bernie Bierman (.716, 1932-41, '45-50)."s provide read
Great statistics, MaxyJR1. There is enough sample size now to have the numbers provide real comparisons with the history of this program.
This coach is practicing what he preaches. His actions reinforce what he professes! We fans are fortunate and can be PROUD Gopher fans!!!

P.J.Fleck signs a new seven-year contract. Good for him, but this is bad look after the school eliminated multiple sports just over a year ago to save money.
He's an Illinois fan.

And - taking a cynical approach - this also gives Fleck some insurance in case the team takes a step backwards next year, when they could potentially lose 10 of 11 starters on both offense and defense. Who knows - maybe all the backups are going to step right in and they won't lose a step - but with that much turnover, it's normal to expect a transition period.
Such is the way of the world for college football unless the college is Ohio State, Alabama or just a few other spots. And yes, as a Gopher fan I can love that fact and live with that fact. It makes it just THAT more special when an extraordinary season comes along.
We have an on campus, wonderful stadium and we are building some stability for the student athletes. My life as a Gopher fan has never been nicer!

Barreiro said on his show that Fleck is now the 17th highest paid coach in the nation. Don't know if that's accurate or not.

Coyle hits a home run that Jorge Soler would be proud of.

LaVelle is such a dirt bag.

I don't get that.

Why only show up to complain?

Why not be there to celebrate?

What is wrong with those people....?

Sanford on Fleck’s signing.
“I even had a conversation with our young quarterback in Athan Kaliakmanis today right after the kind of news went out. I asked him if he understood how significant this is, and he has no clue. I said for you to be an incoming freshman quarterback, and to know that you're going to be playing for the same head football coach, the guy that recruited you. that believed in you, in this day and age of college football doesn't happen very often. And that's what's really exciting is that what we can do to build on this and grow from it. “

I still think Fleck's going to the Steelers when Mike Tomlin replaces Jerry Kill at TCU

And then we bring Kill back to Minnesota, but he has to coach the team without ever stepping on University property since he said he wouldn’t come back.
