Wisconsin has to be the luckiest team on the planet.

Man, Bo Ryan must a master at coaching last second half court shots.

One thing about that last play - a very very very lucky play - but watch what the Grinch had Jackson do: clap his hands at 3/4 court distracting the defense such that Brust was able to get open against one defender on a curl at half-court. The fact that the pass was able to make it cleanly all the way to half-court enabled the shot to even have a chance. A nicely drawn up play and super ridiculous lucky execution.

On the other hand, the two clunkers Jackson shot up to win and tie games against Minnesota and Iowa were nothing less than pure ugly.

Interesting. I didn't catch Jackson doing that. I will have to watch it again. No doubt that Bo Ryan is an awesome coach. It just seems that he has a little luck going his way lately. Maybe we'll get some of that "luck" this year.

One could say we already have had some luck by escaping non-conference play without being down 2 or more players like we have been for each of the previous 3 seasons.

Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State, Illinois, etc.

Wisconsin is 4-2 against those teams. Imagine where they would be with some talent.

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate Wisconsin?

Even the biggest Badger fans have to admit they've been extremely fortunate at times this year.

Once again they hit a running buzzer beater against Penn State.

First of all, you create your own luck.

Second of all, Wisconsin didn't seem to have much luck at Williams Arena when the red headed kid forgot he couldn't move his feet when inbounding the ball. Badgers win that game without that brain fart. Also, they weren't very lucky last weekend when Purdue blew them out at the Kohl Center.

Another top 5 finish by the grinch and another bottom half finish by the Tubbster. That's not luck.

Their basketball team was lucky this year the same way their football team was unlucky in all their close losses. Or does luck for the Badgers only come into account when they win?

1. So making a completely boneheaded play just moments before you hit the game winning shot is creating your own luck? The clown made a terrible mistake and they got lucky Penn St. didn't have a timeout and the possession arrow was in their favor.
2. I don't think you understand the definition of luck. The clown did it himself against the Gophers, therefore it is not bad luck. The Purdue mention doesn't even make sense.
3. The Michigan game was pretty lucky as well. I don't think making half court shots is a great skill to have in basketball. He threw it up there and it went in.

Wisconsin has been fortunate this year late in games, that's all. Never said they should be ashamed of it or shouldn't consider them wins. Just that they've had some things go their way, that's all.

YES!!!

Luck is getting a bounce here or there not getting killed on your home floor. Terrible analogy. And making stupid mistakes is not bad luck but just stupid.

I agree with the bold. Also though, everyone who made a buzzer beater this year did that themselves. And running themselves out of timeouts was something PSU did to themselves. Luck would be if a bat flew down from the rafter and knocked the ball in the hoop. Making a difficult play or failing to convert an easy one is not luck, it is either very good or very bad execution.

Thank god the streak of top 4 finishes is coming to an end.

Does the offensive structure and lack of movement have something to do with how Dre plays the point? I am wondering -what comes first- the chicken or the egg? Dre looked pretty good when they were playing loose early in the year and also at the end of last year.

Yes! Movement! And passing.

They play 1940's basketball. Clutch, grab, and flop. The majority of the time they let the clock run down under 10 seconds. It is almost like Iowa's HS girls basketball. Between Wisconsin and Northwestern the only thing that is missing is the "Peach Basket " If I was the Big Ten Commish.
I would tell them to either change their game, or move to the Ivy League. I would rather take a sharp poke in the eye with a stick then watch either of these dinosaurs play.

And yet Wisconsin's program is light years ahead of Minnesota's.

Tell us how you really feel! Great post.

I jinxed it. I take full blame. Morons in Michigan can't make a free throw.

Bo finishes top 4 every single year. Tubby hasn't (and won't) ever finish over even .500. This is Tubby's most talented team and one of Bo's least. Light years doesn't even begin to describe the gap between these two programs. And since Tubby has limped into the tourney once again for another first round loss, it won't be changing anytime soon.

I wish it did. Michigan choke it.

What's that line from "Airplane!": "What a pisser."

Back to Bucky's horseshoe. When it comes to a shot like that, there is certainly A GOOD DEAL of luck associated with it going in. In practice that player makes a shot of that length maybe 20% of the time. That it goes in at that moment in a game - that that is the one in five attempts - well, there's a lot of luck involved. Not to mention it being closely guarded.

It would not surprise me even a little bit if Bo has some sort of contractual arrangement with the Devil.

I do think it is slightly bizarre that UW had an "easier" schedule this year than what they should've had. If you look at the 1-plays, it is very strange that UW had Penn State twice AGAIN when they had been due for having only one game with PSU (it has been several years since they only played once - 2005 in fact, while OSU has had one-plays with doormat PSU four times in the past six years now). However, in order to give UW that extra game with PSU that they shouldn't have gotten, the Big Ten gave UW one less game with the Wolverines, when they had had a 1-play with UM ('07) more recently than OSU ('05). Amazing how UW comes up with that favorable schedule to avoid two additional games with the top-5 teams each of the past-2 years when they needed it badly to continue their top-4 finish. MSU and OSU finished ahead of UW and didn't miss any of the top teams on their schedules ... if Bo gets COY based on that gift of a schedule, I'll eat my hat.
