Ugh: Alvin Ellis May Re-Open Recruitment UPDATED 4/3: Ellis gets release from LOI

First of all I understand you dont want to lose any player, but still why is everyone freaking out about losing Ellis? I know most of you are experts at analyzing the youtube videos of recruits, but seriously he was not that highly regarded by recruiting services. No better than the like of Armelin, Mav, AND Oto(of all people) for which most of the people trash on this board. Please dont give me the whole business about recruit rankings, cause most of you are acting like you can tell how good a recruit is from watching clips online.

Let him go. We need shooters and outside of Andre and Austin, Tubby's track record for recruiting shooters is ugly.

Ellis is a shooter.

Are you on drugs?

I really don't care to get Ellis back. He doesn't play a position of need, and although he is a shooter, I would rather get a true PG or a F/C instead. I'm more glad we didn't lose Foster. We have good young guards already, and hopefully next year at this time, we'll have Tyus and/or Vaughn.

You must be if you are telling me you KNOW Ellis is a better player than those listed. Last time i checked recruiting services liked the ones i listed more than Ellis. Just saying bud.

That is 110% false. Look up the rivals profiles of Mav and Oto. They are not even in the same breath as Ellis as far as recruiting rankings.

No I've seen him play in person more than three times.

Ellis seems like a drama queen, "he had no choice." Please!

I keep hearing about how players would fit well into Pitino's system...or apply that to any coach. Outside of a big plodding center, is there a system that you look at and say "that player wouldn't seem to like that style." I guess I'm specifically referring to guards/wings...if a system is run and gun, is there a guard/wing out there in America that wouldn't likely prefer that style or be able to be successful in that style?

Recruiting Focus: Alvin Ellis--Minnesota's Loss Could Be Northwestern's Gain

Go Gophers!!

The last sentence of the editor's note is great.

"Meanwhile, a report has surfaced indicating that although the new Wildcats staff has already reached out to Ellis just as we said they should, Ellis has indicated that Northwestern will not be an option in his recruitment."

So basically everything you just read was a waste of time. Thanks for the clicks!

The Wisconsin roster may struggle in a run and gun system.

Blake Hoffarber would struggle in a running style, Devoe Joseph, Julian Welch ... basically any slower lesser athlete basketball player would rather play in a set heavy offense.

Disagree on Devoe, but agree with your overall comment.

And Blake actually wasn't terrible running. All he had to do was run to the three point line and got easy threes. He was really an asset on the break.

What are you talking about?

This is a thread about Alvin Ellis, and you guys turned it into an argument about whether or not DeVoe Joseph would have fit in. That is what I am talking about. Stay on the topic of the thread, or start a new thread.

You have become a pompous tool lately.

Its a discussion around the theory of what style Alvin and other recruits want to play in. Someone stated anyone would rather play uptempo and I disagreed and referenced multiple past gophers that would prefer a slower game. Two posters stated they thought devoe was a better fast pace player then I stated and I told them he was more of an asset in a slow down game.

If you can't follow the flow of text based conversation an internet forum may not be the best place for you.

(I'm aware I'm being exactly what I accused you of being.. its intentional.)

Agreed. People lost him in transition a lot of the time. Nolen was pretty good at finding him.

Why do you feel the need to regulate all exchanges on this board? There were a few comments about how past Gophers would've done if they played in a similar system to what Pitino will run. Get over it.

Blake started many a fast break...terrific outlet passer.

And his point is that they are past Gophers, as you said. I'm with the good Dr. on this one. It's an Ellis thread, not a conjecture thread.

I always have the back of a proctologist.
