Ugh: Alvin Ellis May Re-Open Recruitment UPDATED 4/3: Ellis gets release from LOI

Mav can't play shooting guard either. He isn't a good enough ball handler or distributor to play PG. But he doesn't have the size or athleticism to play the 2. I really think that his days here are numbered. Mo clearly would fall into that category as well, and maybe Oto too.

He's large enough to play the 2 in bursts in college and he's an ok spot up shooter.

I'm not saying that Mav is going to be good next season, I just think the few things he does well, will be highlighted in this system.

Crazy. Mav is not a good defender.

I will disagree, one of his strong points was his on ball defensive skills, I always thought he did a much better job defensively than Andre at the PG position, he struggled at times against the real quick PG's like Burke.

Maybe he was just disappointed that we didn't reach out to him enough, which would have nothing to do with Pitino since he decommitteed before Pitino was hired. It seems unlikely that Ellis will change his mind, but if Pitino really goes after him, who knows. Then again, he's one of the better unsigned players, so he's probably gonna see some good offers. Sheeeeit.

I would imagine he wouldn't have asked us to shred his LOI if he had any intention of seeing who who our next coach was before deciding.

What are the odds he is willing to resign? What do you all think? I couldn't even make a guess.

So we can all assume that Alvin Ellis will be heading to Lubbock?

I would assume that also, BuckyG. But whenever I assume something, I end up getting roasted here on GH, but that is ok. I have become the sacrificial lamb for the "lambasters".

There is a difference between assuming and proclaiming. "Mark my word" Doc!

Any job that wasn't had the end of the world I would think he would follow Tubby. Lubbock I won't be sure. If Pitano is going to press I think we need two more guards in here and we need a forward as well. I know we will run out of scholarships. Hopefully he can open a few up because we need three for next year too. At least two for the big three.

So Tyus is going to walk on? wow, Pitino is good.

It might not be PC, but player purges are not uncommon following coaching changes. Pitino's style play will not fit well with some of the players recruited by Tubby. Oto, Mav and even Big Mo seem the most logical to go. Players like Andre, Austin, Joe, Wally and Bugsy should flourish. I was skeptical when the hire was first announced but every minute that passes has me more and more excited about Coach Pitino. This program really needed an infusion of youth and energy and that's not a rip on Tubby. He's a wonderful man but a change was necessary. Anyone feel the same?

Both Oto and Mo would give up a year of eligibility if they transferred.

Even if they came to NDSU? :banghead:

Would they give up a year of eligibility, or would they just have to sit for a year, and then retain their full eligibility. (See DeVoe, Colt, et.al.)

It took me a year and a half but I left. Do I get points for leaving or failure for taking so long?

-3 for staying so long, but +4 for leaving. You are in positive territory.

NDSU really has a nice campus. In fact a great campus. It's the students that suck. :)

So you don't see him connecting to Pitino?

He might very well love Pitino. That'd be great. I'd love to have him here.

So we can all assume that Alvin Ellis will be heading to Lubbock?

I think that's pretty unlikely. But I think the coach plays a larger role than the institution in most cases. I'd love him to come back to the U, but I just don't see it as terribly likely. If he was particularly attached to the U and not primarily the former staff, I don't think he'd have gotten out of his letter before seeing who was named. But obviously, just a guess.

I don't mind that Ellis asked for release from his LOI. That is his decision. What I wish he would have done was been a little more patient until our new Coach was announced. Now, as far as his options, I hope he will reconsider, admit he jumped the gun, and come on back. I will welcome him back, kind of like the Prodigal Son.

Ellis might love Tubby but Pitino's style of play actually is a better fit for his game by all accounts. Maybe combes can confirm this?

I would agree that Ellis belongs in an uptempo offense. He is a good outside shooter who can also get to the rim. Unfortunately, he played in a methodical high school offense so his talent was often misused, IMO.

It's the 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility rule. Oto & Mo have already redshirted, Devoe & Colt had not so the year they sat out was their redshirt year.

Thanks, Puffy P-Diddy combes...nice to have you and UWole around here for perspective.

If a player is told by the coaching staff that they don't fit in their plans and won't see much if any PT, maybe that forces the hands of even guys in Oto and Mo's position. Fair? Maybe...maybe not. If it were me, I'd rather play elsewhere instead of riding the pine here.

Ellis is a stud and from the brief information I have on Richard pitino (press conference, articles, etc) i feel that he would LOVE him! Think Pitino is Going to be an absolute stud at the University of Minnesota. I'm extremely excited to see what he can do, his mannerisms and voice resemble his father so much.
