Tyus Jones to Duke.

I've been on record for putting some heat on Tyus, but he's about as great of a team player as any recruit in the country. Any team would benefit from having him.

A better team w\o Jones...you're kidding..,right?

Hes been cited as a "pass first" type pg, in the same breath of scoring 40 points in a game. Hes the best damn player we've seen in a long time from this area.... No doubt we would be better without him... :eyeroll:

per Shama:

Jones and his mom met with Gophers coach Rick Pitino and staff last week. “It went really good,” Debbie told Sports Headliners yesterday. “We had good conversations with the coach and coaching staff.

“He (Tyus) is still considering it (Minnesota). After the official visits (to other schools) we will sit down and talk about them. He is not leaning toward one (school now).”

Go Gophers!!

Seems like Duke coaches can afford to be "100% confident," and can afford to play the pressure-inducing game of not recruiting any other PG besides Jones.

If Jones decided in late October or November to commit to somebody else, Duke (being Duke) would still be able to get in on other good PGs if they wanted. They'd either steal somebody else's committed PG, get a JC guy, sign somebody in the spring, or get a good graduate transfer. Or just roll with their existing (and likely 2014-2015) starting PG.

I really wonder if the Tyus to Duke lean will hold up if Okafor decided to go somewhere else. There's been a lot of negative press about the role of post players in Duke's system (which is maybe why they're so weak in that area right now).

Tyus Jones comes in at number 68 in SB Nation's projection of the top 100 NBA players in 2017.

Funny comment regarding Coach K producing one other successful NBA point guard in 35 years of coaching.

Top 100 of 2017

There is a lot of idle time for some of these SB nation writers.... 2017 projection? Good grief....

Hey Tyus, have you been following the Mudiay situation? Pretty interesting, huh? Hometown star PG, top-5 player in the country, courted by everyone, might be spurning Kentucky to stay home and build his *own* legacy with his hometown team.

Mudiay stays home to SMU. See Tyus, you can stay home

Especially since SMU is a basketball program that has NO track record as of the last 25 years. But all of the feedback seems to be positive after Mudiay's decision and people respect him for wanting to help build a program.

Tyus could be dishing the rock to Andre Hollins in 2014, and if he committed, other talent would definitely come. The potential for the Gophers success and his legacy here would be limitless. Oh well, it's too bad that Tyus doesn't see it the same way Mudiay does.

Mudiay will always be something big at SMU now, even if he doesn't have a gigantic career. A 5-star guy that stayed loyal to his hometown. I love it.

Game day and Miles Tarver, loved the comment!!
Where will Tyus have a greater impact on a basketball program?
Duke? Kentucky? Or Minnesota? In five years, even though Tyus could have a great college career at Duke/Kentucky, the fans will be like Tyus who? In Minnesota, in 20 years he would still be a legend! Just ask people of Minnesota about a young girl who played for Minnesota from Hutchinson named Lindsey Whalen. Even today, she is still a legend!

In a vacuum I love the Mudiay commit, but it is probably more bad for us than good. Now all of those elite programs are going to move on to the next PG on their list, like Tum Tum for Kansas.

Kentucky going after Ulis and Jones, MSU going after Ulis and Jones, Kansas and UCLA going after Mclaughlin, the musical chairs in PG recruiting is about to begin.

ZagsBlog: Tyus Jones Heads to Baylor Visit, Says He’s ‘Wide Open’

Most recently, Jones took an unofficial to Minnesota, the home-state school that is trying to land some combination of local stars that includes Jones, Reid Travis and Rashad Vaughn. Minnesota is not on Okafor’s list, however.

“We’re really just still building a relationship, it’s just continuing to grow,” Jones said of coach Richard Pitino and his staff. “They’re really looking at me and trying to sell their program and sell what they’re trying to do over their and just throw in a new twist to Minnesota basketball. And so I’m open for it and we’re just going with it right now.”

You're friends with Parksi? Can't imagine there's another human being who would actually think that.

I also heard that from a friend that if Tubby stayed Tyus would have too. He also told me Illikainen is a lock to go to the U

Obviously this friend knows more than every college basketball expert in the country.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the friend who actually knows them does know more.

Even if that's true, one recruit won't make me miss Tubby.

:clap::clap::clap::clap:

I miss Parski. Hope he is back soon.

If Jones really wanted to play for Tubby at Minnesota, he had plenty of time to commit after Tubby offered him and yet he did not. If I recall correctly, the Gophers offered him as a freshman and Tubby wasn't fired until the end of his junior year. That is a pretty big hole in the whole "Jones would've gone to Minnesota if Tubby hadn't left" theory.

. . .and I am pretty certain Tubby would welcome him at Texas Tech, but that hasn't been discussed at all. So I call that bluff and raise you 20.
