rumor mill.......jd speilman

WR is the absolute last position I worry about. Fleck recruits a ton of WRs, a few of whom turn into incredible receivers. If it weren't for TJ and Bateman we'd think CAB was amazing. It's all relative. CAB is better than most of the receivers we've had in the past few decades. And it is a position where freshmen can contribute. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of our recruits get playing time next year, including the one who committed yesterday.

CAB is very good at coming down with contested catches, has great body control and hands, but he struggles to get separation.

Even though he is the #3 option, he is rarely as open as Bateman and TJ manage to get. Seems like he is almost always covered up pretty tightly when we throw to him.
You say he is rarely as open as two guys who are going to be NFL draftees. I think Fleck would be proud at how much our bar has been raised! Let's complain about a guy who might be good enough to play in the NFL but not good enough to get drafted (at least in what he has showed us through his sophomore year). Let's expect that every WR who suits up will be good enough to get drafted...Seriously! that is a fan base culture change for which we should be proud. I for one am excited to see high expectations.

This is a big nothing-burger. JD is not coming to the Gophers.

I read on another thread that 25% of our incoming commits are wide receivers. Lets get Spielman and the guy from Penn State! Let's not even field a line! Blocking is boring!

Gophers fan claims rumors of JD Spielman transfer are swirling

Nebraska football just completed its third straight losing season. Husker fans have spent most of the last couple of weeks arguing about the direction of the program in light of a last-second loss that sent the Cornhuskers home for another postseason.

One direction that has been pitched more than once, is that there should be changes on the coaching staff. So far, the program hasn't moved in that direction.

Other fans have been talking about the chance of certain players moving on. Nebraska football fans aren't the only ones talking about that chance.

One Minnesota fan claims he's heard rumors that JD Spielman could be moving on. He also said he's quite happy that the rumors he's been hearing have started seeping into the Husker fan base.

While the wide receiver is thought of as one of the most loyal Nebraska football players by the fan base, there was a time when he thought about leaving, officially. The receiver played his freshman season under former head coach Mike Riley.

In that season, he teamed up with Morgan Stanley to be a bright spot in an otherwise dark season.

Go Gophers!!

New low will be Shama reporting that someone at Golden Dunkers told PJ to get off his lawn when he went to deliver bowl tickets in person.

Blasting News rough equivalent of Shama for news source.

Morgan Stanley?

Maybe not the most credible source.

This is a new low. A story about a fan who tweeted something.
They could start a whole newspaper on things people post on GH. It would be awesome!

Hold on....you trying to say that the opinion of a random fan doesn't qualify as a credible source?

Pretty amazing what places will publish these days. So much less concern given to being right in favor of being first.

There was a story about these terrible Penn St. fans earlier this year that had all of a handful of tweets in the article, some of those twitter users had tweeted all of a couple times...

It's not untrue there are some wonky Penn St. fans but just a couple of tweets from a couple of users ... who knows if there really is anyone else who feels the same.

JD Spielman transfer rumors continuing roiling Nebraska football fans

Rumors surrounding JD Spielman leaving the Nebraska football program just won't go away. They started this winter after some members of the Minnesota fandom started talking about how happy they were that whispers had reached Husker faithful.

While some fans dismissed talk of the wide receiver leaving as just idle chatter, other Cornhusker fans believe they've seen behavior from the receiver that would indicate he's on his way out of town.

Earlier this month, some Nebraska football fans even claimed Minnesota radio had revived that talk.

The rumors had become so extreme that one Minnesota radio station claimed he had entered the transfer portal.

While the chances he could do that without anyone in Nebraska media knowing are there, it seems unlikely he could be there several weeks without anyone hearing something more concrete.

The transfer portal is technically not open to view by analysts or writers. But schools, coaches and players will generally tell the media when a player has entered. JD Spielman has been mostly quiet in general about what his plans are for 2020.

Some Nebraska football fans believe that means he could be on his way out the door. Others believe it means he's not even thinking about departing.

JD Spielman in his own words
While Nebraska football fans try and figure out what the receiver might be doing based on what he says or retweets on social media, Spielman has made it clear there are people talking about what he's doing without talking to him.

Earlier this week, Spielman tweeted out that he "hadn't spoken to anyone since the season ended." Some Husker fans believe that is the kind of comment that alludes to him being isolated from the team. On 247Sports, fans pointed to the fact that he retweeted the announcement by Isaiah Stalbird that he was leaving as a sign as well.

Not long after Spielman said he hadn't spoken to anyone since the season ended, he put up another tweet that seemed to be asking people to stop guessing about what he was going to do.

Go Gophers!!

LOL, somebody lit a little rumor in the back church pew to see how far up front it goes. Urban legend. Twitter and variants - the bane of the instant digital idiot communications. Look at what it does to the nation and the entire world. It is getting dumber by the twit.

well, we just happen to have a couple open scholarships and a few WR recruits that didn't sign.

We just have to figure out who else ‘decides’ to leave so we can make room for JDS.

I was under the impression that JD didn't have the grades to consider being a grad transfer, which means he would have to sit out a year.

You seem to be implying (probably correctly) that the coaching staff encourages players to leave who aren't going to be needed on the field.

Do you feel this is okay or a practice that the coaching staff should not be practicing?

I'd hate for your comments to be misconstrued by others on this forum which would then yield pages of arguments about someone's misunderstanding what your were implying.

Please...you know there's been multiple threads on this and Spoofin's opinion here is well known.

Wait, I have an idea, why don't you make a poll...

Every staff does that. Players also leave of their own accord, but I'm certain every staff encourages players to leave.

It's a simple matter of math. If you bring 25 new players under scholarship on every class, that would be 125 players at any one time over five classes. But the maximum is 85. We need on average 10 players out of the 25, from each class, to leave the class by the time the next class is signed.

There's no GPA minimum you need to meet. You either graduate, per your school's requirements, or you don't.

There are requirements to be accepted to grad school.
Sure, just like there are "requirements" to be accepted to undergrad, at each school.

Every admissions department understands that priority can be given if the applicant is an athlete. With a huge school like Minn, one person isn't going to make a difference in dragging down the student body's stats.

JD must be getting hounded by teammates and classmates alike about what is going on.

You do have to have an undegraduate degree first and from what I have heard, JD is a minimum a year to more likely a year and a half away from graduating with his undergrad degree. That would eliminate him from being a grad transfer.
