Reid Travis Picks Stanford Over U

I don't know the family personally, but I know people who do, and they insist education is a high priority for them, probably a higher priority than most D-1 athletes. If he sees the U as a "good school" that seems to bode well. One at Harvard suggests their is some academic ability in the genes, too.

Heard last night from a family member who went to De, is still associated with the school and knows the family. He has heard that the Gophers are around 6th on his list. He's likely a bball guy and won't play football. He is always at the gym (lives nearby); he's there as early as 6 AM to later than 8 PM shooting hoops/working on his craft. Guess his family is very results oriented on and off the court. They want the Gophers to be good and seems like that factors in to where goes as well, but if the Gophers are down, it works against them. Also, academics will play a role and said he's not a one or two year and done player - he'll likely be at his school all four years.

My sources have @D put the the Gophs top 3 when Tubby was Coach...maybe he has dropped them after seeing how Teague operates

Bahah totally made up by THE SCOUT! Also doubting he bases a school off the AD. Bet he couldn't even name 2 AD's of the schools he is looking at.

After seeing that he is no longer destined to transfer or ever finish above .500 in conference?

Didn't read the whole thread, so I apologize if I'm asking a stupid question, but is Reid Travis related to John Travis. I saw John Travis play at Augsburg on a very good Auggie team and he was a very athletic guy.

Nate Sandell: Despite Smith's firing, Reid Travis hasn't lost interest in Gophers

"I don't think it affects it too much," Travis said of Smith's departure. "From my perspective of it, I understand that things happen with certain coaches, but when you're looking at a school you're looking at more than the coach. Of course you want to have a strong relationship with the coach or whoever else they are bringing in, but you've got to look at a lot different things of how the school is."

"I'm nowhere close in the deciding process," Travis said. "There are so many things wide open right now. I still have to see. Basketball? Football? Both? What school? I have to take some visits and kind of go from there."

@jgonstrib: Reid Travis camp also reached out to by Richard Pitino. Travis said he's excited to begin recruiting process with #Gophers new coach. #NCAA

Along those lines, is Reid related to Ross Travis out of Penn State?

@jgonstrib: @DLSislanders Reid Travis will meet #Gophers new coach Richard Pitino in-person this afternoon. Largest of 'Big 3' & @StribSports POY #mshsl

Go Gophers!!

My source very, very close to the situation says that they don't know what he's going to do, but they suspect that he will want to get out of town. I interpret that as there's nothing against the Gophers; maybe just a desire to see things and go places.

Well, NDSU has recruited a kid from Wisconsin who claims he does NOT have a desire to see things and go places. He wants to come to Fargo and meet "Friends in Low Places".

According to A Grown Man Named Doogie, Travis is meeting with Pitino at Williams RIGHT NOW.

This means that Reid Travis leaked this to Doogie because was supposed to clean his room after school and he would rather play video games with friends.

I thought for sure you would do the joke about seeing things and doing people.

Kill on Richard Pitino: If I am a new head coach I am worried about recruiting. I am not worried about meeting the football coach. #Gophers

My feelings exactly.

Think Pitino told him about the Ben Johnson hire? My guess is he did. Hopefully it is enough to tip the scale in our favor.

Any chance he may choose football over Hoops? Has Travis ever made any comments on this? I could swear I read that HE said he wanted to play both.

Pretty sure he's at least implied that he'll choose one. I'd be surprised if it isn't basketball.

I talked to Reid after Pulley practice, but my tape recorder malfunctioned. He enjoyed meeting Coach Pitino and the staff. Buzz Williams of Marquette will be at the school at 3 and Tom Izzo from Michigan State will be there at 4. Mark Few of Gonzaga will be there Sunday.

Do they still make tape recorders?? :)

@darrenwolfson: Reid Travis on Pitino: "It was a great meeting. He liked how I went back-&-forth w/ him. He's a great coach. ... I was impressed." #gophers
