Reid Travis Picks Stanford Over U

Looks like ESPN dropped travis to 40 ... THE SCOUT was correct about Travis being over rated @29. I hate it when THE SCOUT is proven right as usual

Looks like the gopher hole has increased THE SCOUTS annoyance rating to 10/10. Xman was correct about THE SCOUT moving up from 9/10. I hate it when XMAN is proven right as usual.

@GopherHole tweet: "#Gophers assistant Ron Jirsa is watching Reid Travis tonight at DeLaSalle."

Go Gophers!!

per Doogie:

"Smith's top assistant, Ron Jirsa, was expected to see DeLaSalle junior Reid Travis on Thursday night. Of the entire Gophers' staff, Jirsa has the best relationship with Travis, another player Smith wants badly. Iowa State and Vanderbilt are expected to make football scholarship offers to Travis in the coming weeks. He's a standout quarterback."

Travis not listed as Tri Metro all conference or honorable mention for Football last season...

@gopherhole: #Gophers Tubby Smith watched @ShowtimeMr Rashad Vaughn tonight and assistant Ron Jirsa watched @Reid_Travis_22 tonight.

Go Gophers!!

I had a chance to watch him play tonight in their section final game vs. Spring Lake Park. Tubby also attended the game. DeLaSalle won the game 71-61, but I had the same problem projecting Travis at the next level as I did when I watched Joe Coleman when he played at Hopkins. He is only 6"7" and not nearly as strong physically as Trevor is, and I'm not sure that he will be able to play the power forward position against good teams in the Big Ten. I'm of the opinion that another player his size could neutralize him fairly easily. He runs the floor very well, has good hands, shoots free throws very well, but he never showed whether or not he could hit the 15 footer with consistency. If given the choice between the two, IMO Vaughn is much more important to the U. He is a step up from Ingram, but I don't think that he will approach what Trevor has done unless he grows a couple of more inches.

Just a quick note down the line, the player on DeLaSalle that I was most impressed with was Jarvis Johnson, a 6'0" sophomore guard, who has all of the skills needed to be successful at the collegiate level. He is a player that the U needs to be after.

So a high school jr isn't as strong as a 6th year senior, interesting comment. He is only 6'7" as to how tall do you think Trevor is? I think he is built and is an athlete more like Royce White. He played tons of players this summer his height and he dominated them and moved up the rankings. To say a player ranked around 40th isn't as important as a player ranked 10th (Vaughn), really isn't that insightfull. As I have said before a scorer like Vaughn is very likely to be one and done, Tyus I give 2 years, Reid is probably a 4yr player.

Let's see 6'7" 220-235lb or similar sized players: Draymond, Royce, D. Thomas, Evans, A. White. He will have little problem playing pf. Trevor isn't undersized for a college pf he is undersized for a college center. If we are lucky enough to have Reid at pf and Ellenson at Center we would dominate at the big ten level.

I doubt he would be an immediate impact player but he would be physically stronger and more active in two years and definately be a contributor his freshman year, Tyus Jones could turn a program around day 1.

+1

Jarvis does not have the shooting skills. Travis already has D1 strength.

just educating you on why tubby has not offered him, and pointing out that he does not at this time have "all the skills" Noticed he is all over the place on his foot placement on free throws... would be wise to get a routine down where he toes up to the line rather than standing back 4-6 inches.

So Tubby told you that? Or are you talking out of your @ss again? Every player has weaknesses. As a whole, Jarvis is more than good enough and deserves a scholarship unless his grades aren't in order.

Wouldn't you like to know if Tubby or someone on the staff told me that ...Then again I am THE SCOUT! and maybe I told Tubby ... You don't need a weather man to tell you from where the wind blows...His grades are fine so quit worrying about that

The level of arrogance is comical. And I'm not worried about his grades. Didn't imply they were bad. It would just be the only reason to not offer him. If his grades are fine, which I believe they are, then it blows my mind that he doesn't have an offer.

If Jarvis could shoot better ...lets say like Tyus he would have an offer. You need to realize that other than being a bit undersized his only flaw From a high major recruiting level is the inability to set up the dribble drive off the outside shooting threat. That being said improving one shot is entirely possible but not a given. The fact is he did not make any of the 3 all metro teams , was 4th on his high school team in scoring at 7ppg really illustrates the need to improve his shooting/scoring skill set

Travis isn't getting the attention he deserves. It seems like he would be the most important player to focus our recruiting on--maybe more realistic option and would be around longer if he came. Seems like a good kid.

Bottom line.. Reid and Jarvis both play this morning at Williams. If you would like to see them and make your own up to date judgment, show up.

oh my heavens....

From the STrib after DeLaSalle's semifinal win today:

1. Reid Travis, DeLaSalle
Johnson had absolutely no answer for Travis and he was able to impose his will for most of the game. He recorded 30 points and 12 rebounds and only missed three field goals while doing so, finishing 12-15 from the field. He threw down multiple highlight reel dunks to keep the crowd entertained. The only thing that could stop him in this game was the free throw line as he went 6-13 from the charity stripe.

AP: Tyus Jones, Reid Travis share AP award

This time, Tyus Jones has to share the honor.

The Apple Valley junior point guard was named Monday the co-winner of the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year award for high school boys basketball, with DeLaSalle junior power forward Reid Travis. Jones was the sole recipient his sophomore season.
