***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT wisconsin IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I don’t see a way for them to win one more game this year, sad and bad.

Well, they had the last game against OSU before blowing it by abysmal free throw shooting so there's a chance of winning a game or two. It's clear from this game, Mich State, and Indiana that they have severe problems handling any team with a highly capable big man (or big men). While that's certainly not their only problem, it appears to be the most decisive one.

I’m wondering the same thing brother. That’s the whole point. That’s the problem with Minnesota basketball. Fire Ben and revamp the roster. I feel for Dawson and Mike Mitchell
Garcia would be a good second fiddle. Zero assists tonight. He's got great ability around the bucket but the greatness ends there. He doesn't play team ball and he doesn't play defense.

None. They all suck. This team is terrible. Johnson needs to be fired yesterday. But Asuma had absolutely nothing. I don’t think we’re gonna stunt his development by having him sit one game where he really sucks. He’s gonna get plenty of playing time the rest of the year.
He sucked tonight. Why single him out, the game was lost early in the second half. Just show him that you have confidence in him and let him play through it. Close game? Sure, sitting him is fine if the other players are carrying the load. That wasn't happening.

Aw well, it is a lost season and he is the only player I have an ounce of interest in at this point, as he might return next year with a new coach. The rest of these guys are history.

Come on. He’s a 3 level scoring, 6’10 skilled big. Can shoot, handle, and pass. Hard to blame him for this shit show. It shouldn’t be hard to build around a player like him and we probably won’t see a player as good as him in years, very easily one of the best players in the conference

Where has he won?

Here's an example of how deceptive Garcia is. Crowl tonight puts up 18 points on 7 shots with 5 assists and plays sound defense. Garcia puts up 22 points on 17 shots with no assists. Everyone would say they want Garcia over Crowl but who plays winning ball?

Williams looks like he could help the offense.
I think he could too. Unlike our regular guards, he seems to have confidence in his shot. You don't see him repeatedly driving in closer because he doesn't have the confidence to shoot from three point range.

There is some recent precedent for this kind of player. Last year Oakland University made the NCAA tournament and beat Kentucky in the opening round and lost a close game to final four participant NC State in the second round. They had a guy named Jack Gohlke who was a grad transfer there from little Hillsdale College in Michigan. He scored 32 against KY and 22 against NC State. He averaged 13.1 points per game in his one year at Oakland.

He seems like an OK player, but there's a reason he left both Marquette and UNC.

“Ok player” come on this is becoming dumb. He should’ve just left cause if this is going to be the narrative around him. He’s a really good college player, one of the best players in the country that’s stuck on a team that Ben Johnson built

This team is only decent when there is balance scoring. Although they lost the last game (make free throws and you win), the game was close because of balance scoring. Guarantee they will not win a game if Dawson is the only focal point of this offense and Patterson/Femi are the main point guards. Don’t get me wrong, Dawson is an elite scorer but that’s it. No defense.

I didn’t have an opportunity to see the game tonight. I’m assuming wisky made most of their free throws? 🤔

"Ok" is wrong, you're correct. But he's not one of the best players in the country. He feels like one of those really good players that isn't a winning player.

I'd say 3rd Team Big Ten is my thought on his game.

People turning on Garcia is laughable. He’s far and away the best player on this team for years. It’s scary to think what this team would be like without him.
Come on...we're awful. And he's playing. I truly don't believe it would be much worse.

Let’s put it this way. Dawson Garcia is a better player than Jordan Murphy. Dawson is by far the best player on this team and has been for years including being better than an NBA guy Christie last season. He’s a great player
He is yes.

I think I just have a hard time admitting that anyone on a really bad team is any good.

*Al Jefferson type back in the day for the Wolves

It's a team game. Garcia played poorly against Ohio State and that was probably our best game of the year. He's the team leader on a team that is likely to lose 18-20 Big Ten games this year. He is supposed to be all Big Ten. Good players win.

I hear you. But you have to get out of that mindset. Karl Towns lost with terrible teams around him pre-Edwards. Justin Jefferson lost with a terrible team around him last year

So I assume you were thrilled when Christie, Hawkins, and Payne all left last offseason since none of them won.

Not when they don't have a decent roster surrounding them.

Really lame hill to die on. He spent 3 years at this dumpster fire. The Carolina team he was on went to the national championship. Rigsby “won” last year and do we honestly believe he is a big time player?
He left the Carolina team after 18 games. The team was 12-6 (mostly non-conference) with him and 17-4 (ACC and NCAA Tournament games) without him. He's got really good skills. Really good. Teams he is on don't win.

Kris Humphries: 12-18, 3-13 with him; 21-11, 10-6 and NCAA Tournament without him
Karl Towns was on the team that landed Edwards. Now everyone misses Towns. Speaking of Edwards, he was on a terrible Georgia team, guess lots of folks wouldn’t want him on this team either

So basically the Gophers haven’t had any good players in a long time, since they haven’t won in a long time. Christie, an NBA draft pick last year but I guess he’s not good cause his team didn’t win last year

There are great players that coaches have to get control of and funnel in the right direction. Edwards played under Crean who I would not want as a coach. I admit I am surprised at where we are right now without Towns. Let's see how the season ends. Garcia could be a really good player on a well coached team.

He's very big, can shoot (with either hand), and has good footwork. The kind of player we have a great deal of difficulty containing.
We can blame our old buddy Richard for that one.

We brought Crowl into the summer camp, and he watched the unofficial team summer practice afterwards. Word at the time is that he was ready to commit.

...

He left that weekend without a Gopher offer. The rest is history
