What would Dawson average in Purdues system with Paint vs Smith if he was here with this roster and Ben? Dawsons better, there isn’t an NBA scout that would prefer Smith over Garcia

1. What does NBA scout have to do with anything

2. Again, there's a reason Dawson is still here for a 5th year. Scouts ain't licking their chops

3.You keep ignoring the fact that BRaden is hands down purdues best player and they roster TKR who is better than Dawson.

Ask any coach, player, fan, analyst of a team that's not Minnesota or the gophers. Every single one of them is taking Braden Smith

Of course they’re taking Smith man. I’m not debating what the casual fan would take. Smith is the PG of a nationally relevant program, Garcia isn’t on a relevant program as I already said. Let me ask you though since Purdue is better than Rutgers, is Smith a better player than Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey? Or will you move the goalposts?

And yes, Braden Smith is absolutely a better college player than both right now.

Also talking about shifting goal posts. You legit just shifted from Dawson(5th year senior) to a top 3 lottery pick to try and prove a point that doesn't exist

Smith will be no different than Garcia. He’ll exhaust his eligibility before going pro somewhere. And you saying you think Smith is better than Dylan Harper right now is crazy man. Smith is. Smith if the season ended today is likely 1st team AA. He's a fantastic college basketball player.

I'm beginning to think you are trolling, and if so honestly well done. I mean it. You got me.

The way you keep telling me to not move goalposts when you keep literally moving the Convo into new directions is impressive.

I’m dead serious. I think Smith is a great PG, I think he’s the CP3 of CBB but how am I dead wrong?

I seriously want to know. Have you seen Harper play? I’m an NBA guy first, college second. But the Harper kid can really go from what I’ve seen. He’s got some serious juice that Smith just doesn’t have
 

From up 15-5 to down 30 in the same game...As much as I despise this whole era of Gopher Basketball, I wanted that win against Ohio State for the simple fact that I don't want Minnesota to have the worst season in Big Ten history. I'd want the game against Wisconsin no matter the circumstances. We're now 9-36 against Wisconsin since firing Clem Haskins. Tonight wasn't one of them, but it seems like half those losses have come in excruciating fashion. Who remembers Bronson Koening hitting a 35 footer at the Barn? Or Nate Mason getting tripped (and Jordan Murphy missing free throws)? Or in Ben Johnson's tenure we've had Peyton Willis miss free throws and Hawkins get fouled on a potential game winner that went uncalled.

Maybe we should take a page out of the pro sports book and sign Clem to a ceremonial deal this offseason. Right a wrong and get rid of some of this bad karma.

Yes Harper is fantastic. And he's every bit the top 2 pick he's going to be. He's far more all around talented.

But Smith is a season college player that is built for the college game he is elite.

I don't think its crazy if you say you'd take Harper in college over him now though. That's fine.

Garcia though? Yeah that's nuts.

Hell for forwards its Broome, Flagg, Dixon. You are not starting a college team today with any forward but those 3 over Smith.

Yeah , but I don’t think it’s a slight for me to say Smith is CBB’s prime Chris Paul man. I think he’s in a great system though and would love to see a more talented and older player like Garcia with that spacing instead of playing next to 3-4 guys who can’t shoot

I admittedly didn't watch a ton of Marquette hoops in the 2020/2021 season, so I have no clue if he was a problem there or not. But since then Marquette has made the tournament 3 times in a row and was back to back #2 seeds. It's dumb to claim someone being butt hurt over losing someone when they've been really fucking good since he left.

C'mon man, you can't be serious? You would start your team build by selecting Dawson Garcia over Braden Smith? AWESOME, I'll take the 2nd pick and bring Smith to lead my team. Smith is one of the best point guards in college BB while Garcia wouldn't be found with a search light in the "bigs" column.

Garcia ranks 436th as a player on Evan Miya
Braden Smith ranks 10th

It's no contest. Basketball is a team game. There are guys who make the others on the team better and there are guys that don't.

Let me be clear, Dawson was definitely not a problem(ie attitude or poor play) that ruined the team. So definitely not piling on the kid.

Was just pointing out that he is more of a 2nd or 3rd guy. His style of play does not fit as a go to guy on a team that is to be really good.

As you said, I am def not butt hurt. Just using 5 years of data. Dawson appears to be happy with where he's at(that's what matters) and Marquette is definitely better off.

I'm indifferent to whether Johnson is fired soon or at the end of the season. I agree that it likely couldn't hurt the team performance if he were fired now. I don't think a "magical win or two" would make people feel good about the season. Two years ago, the team beat Rutgers near the end of the season and Nebraska in the Big Ten tournament but I don't think that made anyone feel good about the season. I'd certainly like to see a win or two but that only would make me feel better after those games. Granted, something is better than nothing.
