*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS-PURDUE GAME THREAD ***

This is what happens when your shooting guard doesn't have to run the point.

I am not an apologist by any means. I'd like a coaching change if we can get the right guy.

The problem that everyone absolutely refuses to acknowledge is that Minnesota doesn't have a lot of appeal as a basketball school and getting a coach more recognizable with recruits than Tubby is borderline impossible.

If Shaka comes knocking, I say open the door and push Tubby out.

Don't worry, some people think being an apologist is someone who says anything positive.

Just curious, Austin, but what IS a coach responsible for in your little world?

Developing game plans, helping fix mechanical issues, coaching on skills like post moves, in-game management, and making adjustments.

Point is: if a D-1 athlete needs a coach to help get him jacked up for a game, he shouldn't be a D-1 athlete

Even when they play well like this, its is still frustrating that they are not consistently this way. This is so much on these guys and their heads. They play when they want to play. A one and done situation may bode well for these head cases. Bring on the tourneys.

Thank you, Mr Austin "Danger" Powers is clueless.

I'm still waiting for your answer to the questions I asked you.

I will ask this again and please answer. What should everyone do? Get pissed off on a message board? Throw eggs at Tubby's house? Kick our dogs? Some people act like they're so much better because they are mad all the time, therefore they expect more out of the program. Most everyone expects more than what we're seeing. Most everyone is pissed off right now. Just because they try to stay positive no matter how bad things get doesn't make them a bad fan. Get off your high horse.

Then why was he recruited to a D1 school, by Tubby?

These are young athletes. You cannot reasonably expect their psychology to be wholly developed. I sure as *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# didn't have it all figured out when I was 19. They require guidance to ensure they don't get too high or too low. This is one of the things you need coaches and mentors for.

Exactly. This is how we should be playing. Running up and down the court, getting into the lane, and moving the ball around efficiently.

It's nice to see some shots going in....Now can we play better defense?>???

This has all of the makings of the IU game...fight all the way back only to lose.

Yes, keep thinking the U will get recruits without a recognizable coach. If you really want to live in that fantasy world, be my guest. The only reason RSIII, Devoe, Royce, Rodney, and Trevor came here are because Tubby has a national title on his resume.

There's no other real appeal to this program. Everyone says the big city environment is a plus in recruiting when it just isn't.

Don't worry, some people think being an apologist is someone who says anything positive.

He's not being positive though.

The comments were the U sucks, the players suck, the campus sucks, it all sucks. Tubby is doing the best possibly job anyone can at the U and no one will ever want to coach or play here because it is such a horrendous place.

I don't see that as being positive.

They've had at least 6 baskets in this game that rattled around and went in....Terrible luck with terrible defense....

RSIII, 4 star from Georgia. Devoe Joseph, 4 star from Canada.
Joseph is the only guy besides Royce who I would call a high level recruit.. You can read Rivals all you want but guys like Coleman,Rodney, Mo Walker despite what their family may tell you were not that highly recruited. Guys like the Holllin boys, Ellision were Stanford,Arkansaw level type offers. Interesting that Wally and Devon Bostick were not recruited by the Wisconsin schools. I think Tubby's recruited has not been very good.

Don't know if I woulda put Austin on the bench even with 3 fouls. He was finally finding his stroke.

That's one heck of an interesting spin on the stuff I've been saying. The U doesn't suck. It has a beautiful campus and rests in a major metropolitan area. The players don't suck (not sure how you got that with me saying directly that we have 4 guys with NBA potential on this team). I didn't say Tubby was doing the best job possible.

Reading comprehension in this thread has been, in a word: poor. What you guys aren't understanding is that the beauty of a campus and location aren't reasons why recruits pick schools.

Why did coleman subsitute for Mav, now all the sudden, we are stale. Coleman got to get out.

Joe Coleman has the worst instincts of any player I've ever seen play this many minutes for the Gophers.

Still can't get any stops. Trying to block everything instead of just playing defense.

Even Monson was able to get Humphries. Getting D1 talent to come to a D1 school isn't rocket science if you have the right guy. And even if you can't get the talent, get a system and fit the talent that you can get to it. Slow the pace down and recruit shooters.

Tubby isn't getting it done right now. Even if he is such a great recruiter (he's not), what the hell good have his fabulous recruits done us? What good have the millions we're paying him done us? If mediocrity is what we're destined for because Minnesota is the worst job in the world (which you seem to think), then let's scale down to a more appropriate price tag. Or pay for someone else who has a chance to take a fresh approach to a program that has stagnated.

There is a foundation here that you can build on. It is not impossible. You just have to find the right coach. Once we start winning, all the good things this university have going for it will look all the more attractive.

You have literally said this about every player on this team---go away you are a troll

Bo R recruits players who can shoot jump shots. A nice skill to have on you team.
