*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS-PURDUE GAME THREAD ***

Everyone will want to schedule us on senior day. Kind of like football and homecomings. lol

Is that really what it's come to? The basketball team is as bad as the football team.

Let me guess, you checked some season stats and determined that, right? You saw that Cobbs is able to light up hapless Pac-12 defenses and that Colton does well against the tiny, unskilled big men in the Mountain West, right?

Cobbs is a bench player in the Big Ten. Colton is a role player. Those players succeed outside of the Big Ten because defense outside of the Big Ten is terrible

I guess you'll have to admit the coach doesn't recruit good enough talent to compete in the Big 10 then. My god, he is responsible for the program at the end of the day and he has had PLENTY of time to prove his worth. If he stays the barn will be empty next year. We absolutely need a new direction.

This is the style, full court pressing and trapping and trying to run on offense, that we should be using from the opening tap, not resorting to it when we're down by 17 after half.

Well if Tubby hadn't sucked ass for the past 6 years the recruits would be better.

Rodney Williams and Trevor Mbakwe have developed into potential NBA picks. Andre and Austin Hollins have developed games that are on pace to get them NBA looks in the coming years.

Do people just forget that college recruits don't simply go places because you win games? John Calipari gets recruits because he develops NBA talent. Bo Ryan gets kids that want to play specifically in his system (or if you're Sam Dekker, because you're a huge Badger fan).

Without a practice facility, there's just no real appeal to Minnesota as a basketball school.

These next 5 minutes are huge. Need to win these next 5.

Poor Tubby, the weather has killed his recruiting. Sick of the lame excuses by all these apologists. The team has regressed as the season has went on his entire tenure here. There are enough good basketball players that you should be able to put together and coach up a team enough so it isn't an embarrassment.

What players do you think he can get that he isn't getting? If you're a recruit, why would POSSIBLY want to go to Minnesota under ANY coach? No history, no practice facility, bad in-season weather...

If I'm Tyus Jones, why would I want to come to this program?

Great school (especially business), big city environment, awesome campus, home town, mall of America, great people,

I agree the facilities are an issue as is the history, but can we stop acting like everything about the U is a crap hole. This is a great school and a lot of potential to have great football and basketball teams.

Heck, hire the right coach and things can change dramatically with recruiting. Hiring Tubby Smith brought us a 5-star recruit and multiple 4 star and top150 players and top 25 classes.

Recruiting has slipped lately because the success has slipped.

My 2 Cents

It's possible they can negotiate for him to 'retire' for a lesser amount, but would you give up $2.5 million so that people in a state you'll probably never set foot in again will hate you a little less?

I don't hate Tubby. I love the guy. The problem is he has failed to produce and it is time for him to go. It is the profession he chose.

Time to go.

They are calling us for every flipping touch foul out there.

two drive and kicks in a row.... interesting approach

Recruiting has dipped lately because the state of Minnesota hasn't had a strong basketball class in several years.

Like who? Who are you going to get that is more appealing than Tubby Smith? (a coach with a national title on his resume).

Gopher fans need to wake up: they aren't getting Shaka, Flip has no experience as a recruiter, and none of the top mid-major coaches are going to want to come to Minnesota. You either need to find a diamond in the rough or groom somebody young on Tubby's staff.

Why does a coach have to have name recognition to get recruits?

Teague and Ellis have a good history of hiring basketball coaches.

This. Success at a Big Ten school in an environment like Minnesota is so far from impossible that I don't know how people can even begin to THINK that it is. If those fat drunks across the border were able to do it twenty years ago, we can do it now.

I don't hate him either. I'm just being realistic. When is the last time a coach 'retired' under these circumstances?

Cobbs would start for the gophers, joe would be on the bench. Cobbs is a terrible comparison because he wasn't here very long.

I am not an apologist by any means. I'd like a coaching change if we can get the right guy.

The problem that everyone absolutely refuses to acknowledge is that Minnesota doesn't have a lot of appeal as a basketball school and getting a coach more recognizable with recruits than Tubby is borderline impossible.

If Shaka comes knocking, I say open the door and push Tubby out.

I don't think Rodney has a very high basketball IQ...if the Globetrotters offer, he better take it.

Thank you, Mr Austin "Danger" Powers is clueless.

Well, we didn't quit. That's an improvement for the Iowa and OSU games...
