Official 2025 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

The only way that Bryson was going to play much going forward as if we had multiple injuries at safety. Never had a really good feel for the Owusu kid. He got hurt right away and then seemed to disappear.

Surprised Bryson is leaving....he has played all three years. Played in most every game in 2024.
He's got 3 years left to play.
Ok, I'll bite in this new world of eligibility. If he played 3 years, even if 1 was technically a redshift, how does he have 3 left? He wasn't here for the Covid year.
I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation that I missed or don't understand.

Bryson was pretty predictable. Honestly wouldn’t shock me if Green left as well. Owusu is surprising he would leave already, not sure he’ll land at the p4 level.

I thought Bryson might have been a candidate to replace Henderson in the defensive set. Who do we currently have on the roster to slot in at that position. The current set of safeties look to be too small to play that particular role.

Maybe Gerlach? I don’t think that role necessarily has to match Henderson’s size.

Doesn’t Bryson have a brother we are recruiting? Wonder if this impacts that at all.

His brother is a 26 wr. Has a ton of great offers. Probably a bit of a long shot anyway.

One guy that hasn't been mentioned as a replacement for Henderson is Perich. In some packages he could slide up and play Henderson's role while Brown and Gousby play the safety positions.

Perich packs on a little more weight and he would be basically the same size Henderson was and I can totally see Perich rushing the QB and getting sacks and TFL the way Henderson did.

Karmo is rated as our top recruit. I think he can play right away and he’d be a fit for the Henderson position.

Karmo I believe is a LB and Henderson's position is more of a DB. It will be interesting to see how the defensive staff adapts with the returning talent.

He’s listed as being 6-3&1/2 and 222. I’ve seen him shown as an edge and a lb. I suppose it depends on much weight he adds as to what position he plays. If he doesn’t add much weight I feel he could be a big db. Henderson’s position is sort of a combo db/lb position like what we used to call a rover. Anyway it will be interesting to see where they play him.

You may or may not be right on Karmo but it is always risky to expect much from a true freshman in college football. Most players need some time to develop. There are exceptions like Perich but more often then not the best thing for a true freshman is to redshirt and spend that first year acclimating to the massive jump from high school to power 4 football.

McMillan took some snaps there last year. Think he has a year left? Could see Darius Green in the Henderson spot if he's healthy. Be similar to Flip Dixon in that regard. Might be times situationally we sneak Perich down there with Gousby and Brown playing back

He’s an early enrollee so if his talent is as good as I think it is this will be a big advantage for him.

Getting here in the spring would definitely up the odds of him playing early if he is talented enough to make the jump. Had Perich been here in the spring he probably would have started from day 1 as opposed to having to work his way into the lineup.

Still a massive jump though. A kid playing high school football in Minnesota has maybe been on the field with a handful of other D1 level players during his high school career. At the U he will be on the field with an entire team full of guys who were top level players at their high school.

We used that safety/nickel position a little less at times last year. We saw a bit more of traditional nickel with McMillan covering the slot and Gerlach being more of a coverage LBer.

For that safety/nickel spot next year, I think other people hit the nail on the head, it could be Green, Perich, Brown (I can imagine scenarios where we try to hide which of our DBs is playing in the box). There could also be some of these younger guys emerging. I know Kelly, Monroe, and Carrier are also decent sized DBs.

Thanks to all who chimed in on my question regarding replacing Henderson in the defensive scheme. I thought of some of the same names--particularly Perich--but some of you added to that list.

I think it's an important position in the defensive scheme. Henderson wasn't a perfect player, but he made a number of big plays in that hybrid role. I guess the question is whether size or speed is more important in that role. While the guys mentioned are smaller than Henderson, they are all faster than he is.

Probably my error...the 2024 roster said he had 3 years left to play. I interpreted that to mean he had 3 years left to play. But I think what they mean is three years including this year....which to me is confusing. So, my bad. Guessing it is actually 2 years left to play.
