Official 2025 Roster Movement Thread - Who's In and Who's Out?

Pretty quiet on the portal front but I see that Hoskins is headed to North Dakota. That is probably a great landing spot for him as someone who is undersized with speed can thrive at the FCS level. Hopefully it works out for him.

I think Javon Tracy ends up the #1 WR next year.
Only way this happens is if Coleman and Williams really are busts/unable to develop. I also don't think PJ gets Coleman to commit unless he's given a real chance to compete for that number one spot. That said, Tracy is a dog and I think he will bring some really swagger and a chip on his shoulder to that WR room. Should be a fun competition this winter/spring

I think you're supremely undervaluing Tracy, his skillset and the numbers he's already proven he can put up with mediocre QB play. The other two are great athletes who are yet to prove they're receivers. Tracy is a bonafide receiver.

Coleman and Williams both have time to develop ...

Looked like Tracy did most of his damage out of the slot from the highlights I watched. Him and Loya will play a lot there would be my guess.

If Coleman was the sure thing you seem to think he would still be at Nebraska. He couldn't even see the field there, and it's not like they had a great group of receivers ahead of him. He is big and fast. That doesn't mean he can run routes well and catch the ball.

Tracy has proven much more than Coleman. Coleman is more likely to end up a defensive end with us, like Nebraska wanted to do with him.

Maybe Coleman didn't have coaches that knew how to motivate him or coach him to his strengths.

I have no idea, and neither do you. In fact, no one really has a clue how any portal-in player will or can perform.

my impression is that Fleck brings in portal players to fill specific areas of need - as in "I'm not sure about our younger players at (name position), so we're going to bring in someone from the portal who can jump right into the lineup - or at least be part of the 2-deeps."

the more traditional developmental role seems to be reserved mainly for HS players.

if you're investing the NIL or revenue-sharing $$ on a portal player, and he's not good enough to start, that is not the best use of available funds IMHO.

David Cobb is the best all-time example of you just never know. He sat on the bench for two full years and did basically nothing and then became one of my favorite all-time Gophers while running a mock the last two years. Sometimes they just need a chance.

I agree, but there are guys that PJ brings in with multiple years left. You might have a 4th or 5th year starter that needs depth guy behind them and between them and the HS kids. There are many levels to depth that need to be filled.

Cobana was coming from Michigan as a young depth guy and the changed his mind and is going to Western Michigan.

I don't think Fleck needs to make any promises to players other than they will compete.

I'm willing to bet Loya, Tracy and Brockington are all well ahead of Coleman and Williams. As of today I would say Driver, Hayes are as well. I'd love it if one of them rose up and became the top target but A LOT would need to happen

True freshman year was 2020 and he had a medical year in 2022. Assume he has at least 2 years of eligibility left. Could be a nice replacement for Henderson or maybe they see him in a more traditional LB role.
If he played in '21, '23 and '24 I don't see how he'd have "at least 2 years of eligibility left." Wouldn't it just be 2025?

He's coming in as a grad transfer and that usually (one has to couch things with all the current interpretations of eligibility) means one season.

Will freely admit that I have no clue how everything works with eligibility now, especially when 2020 is involved. Assume at the very least that 2020 doesn't count as a year for him so maybe he has 2 years to play 1 or something like that and still could technically redshirt if he wanted to.

Danny Strigow was a 2020 guy who played full seasons from 2021-2024 and is out of eligibility.

Jah Joyner was also a 2020 guy who didn't play at all in 2020, played 4 games in 2021 to redshirt and then played full seasons in 22, 23, and 24. He still has another year left but is going pro.

Cody Lindenberg played in games in all 5 of his seasons here (6-2020, 3-2021, 13-2022, 4-2023, 12-2924) and could have played one more year if he wanted to but is going pro.

So yeah, probably 2 years to play 1 for Roberson but your guess is as good as mine :)

I think both of their starting S graduate this year and they don’t have any super high caliber recruits transfers coming in.

They do have two Jrs at 2nd string but maybe he’s better or just a depth piece.

I get we have a super talented room of S but I wish we could’ve found a spot for him. Watch BB get him drafted somehow.
