The fact that Kelly & his Mother are scheduled for a five day (!), unofficial visit to the U says a lot to me. He told Burns that he's going to have to miss his own football practices to do it, but that his coaches understand his situation (paraphrasing). His best friend Ray Buford committed to us last week. He grew up in Minnesota, so he's almost like a local kid in that regard. No weather working against us. I think it's partly arrogance from the MSU sources who just assume he'd commit to them if pressed over us. Maybe he doesn't like to be pressured?
 

From what i read, Kelly really doesn't like MSU's strong arm tactics. They tried to put pressure on him to commit and it didn't go so well. As far as Schlicte goes, i saw him live 3 times last year. He's not a Big Ten QB. Really small and , honestly, just not quite good enough.

So since he did not commit to MSU today do you think the gophers are now a virtual lock?

Edit: It appears on twitter he is visiting MSU tomorrow instead.

I am no where near the person to make that call. If I had to guess I'd say that if he leaves East Lansing uncommitted we'll get him and I feel fairly confident that he's ours but that's nothing more than a hunch.

Don't be so rational. Don't you know everyone is an expert on the Gopherhole? Heck you could have been in the lunch room at MSU's training center and found out that they gave the kid chicken parm for lunch, but MSU didn't realize he feels bad for the chickens and threw a fit. Storming out of the lunch room only to declare he has had enough with his recruitment and with MSU, screaming "SKI-U-MAH" as he walked out.

Wow I need to get out of the office.
 

I don't like predicting the behavior of 17-18 year olds but he isn't acting like someone who's ready to commit to MSU tomorrow. If they try to pressure him to commit again tomorrow he may just say "forget you" to MSU and commit to us when he visits because we were actually patient with him. I still like our chances, but just watch him commit tomorrow....

So he'll commit to us when we don't ask him to instead of them because they are asking him to. That doesn't seem logical...

MSU has pushed for a commitment from him before and apparently he wasn't a fan of them pressuring him.
 

Apparently the 247 guys believe he a lock to be a gopher if he makes it out of East Lansing.
 

Sounds like Quinn Oseland's high school offensive line coach was at practice today. Good to hear as his decision will apparently be made within a week or two.

It's my experience that (generally speaking), Monday night is when you can start to exhale if a player visited without Mom/Dad. They're usually still on campus Sunday morning & then traveling Sunday afternoon/night. Monday after work/school they talk to Mom/Dad & call the coaches. That's my unscientific opinion.

'Hope so. Getting both Kelly and Buford will be a huge coup over MSU. Expect Kelly will end up in defense.

We are getting both mass and speed in defense now. Scary to see what the future Gopher Defense is morphing into!!

I think we have a good shot. He is coming during the middle of team camp. Usually kids don't do that unless they have legit interest
 

5 days in the middle of their team camp and our fall practice is more like getting his equipment fitted. :)

The B1G has a couple of the best Ds in the nation. They will have nothing on the Gophers very soon. They are going to be punishers and that will result in turn overs.

KSTP: Mass Appeal: Chaska's D-1 Offensive Linemen

The Chaska high school football team will get regular visits this season from Gophers coaches Jerry Kill and Matt Limegrover. That's because left tackle Bronson Dovich (Class of 2015) is a Gophers verbal commit and right tackle Matt Kegel (Class of 2016) is a wanted man by the Gophers.

Rivals Stars News

News to me anyway...Rivals updated some of our 2 star recruits to 3 star recruits...for those who care
about that. We now have all 3 stars except for two guys. I know we are busy preparing for the season,
but it would be nice to add another player here to kinda keep the "bricks" moving.

...and if you like to look at average stars, we are now tied with Wisconsin for 8th in the Big Ten. Better than Rutgers, Iowa, Purdue, Maryland, and Illinois. Overall class is ranked last in Big Ten by Rivals.
 

Mere stars mean little to me. Too broad to gauge a player. Much more interested in position rankings and precise player grades. I really like ESPN and 247’s 10 point scale and while Rivals’s 3 point scale isn’t quite as precise it is still much better a simple star.

On 247 Quinn Oseland made another visit here on August 2nd that i was not aware of. Someone else said his O-line coach came to one of the practices as well. I think we’ve got him in the bag. Also Kyle Golbirsch and another guy changed his John Kelly MSU prediction back to us and the consensus with the 247 guys was if he makes it out of East Lansing uncommitted then he is ours for the taking.
 

There is a new recruiting site called SigningDay that i happened to stumble upon and it ranks Jacob Huff as a 4 star and a top 300 player. Quinn Oseland is also a 4 star. I don’t know if it is very legitimate as there are a lot of good players that don’t even have profiles like John Kelly, Drayton Carlberg and Jonathan Femi-Cole plus it ranked Ragnow is the #6 player in the state and it ranked a 2016 CDH RB that i’ve never even heard of as a 4 star and top 300 guy.
