Official 2015 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

I agree that his ceiling his higher on the O-line and I do trust the staff but I also trust MSU’s defensive staff more. I guess what I’m saying is that since Oregon and MSU, two much more successful programs particularly MSU on D, already have enough linemen they changed their offer to D-line and I don’t see why we wouldn’t if we get enough O-lineman.

Oregon is going to be a dumpster fire on defense this year (and has often underperformed, relying on outscoring their opponents over the years) so I wouldn't use them as an authority on where Carlberg is best fitted.

I was mostly referring to MSU.

We're a lot better than I thought then. I should buy tickets to the B1G championship game and the national playoffs.

I think that you would better served studying for your driving test as your response shows that you are most likely 14.

I love it when hometown kids commit to the U, but I'm done getting too worked up over it. If he doesn't want to represent where he comes from, so be it. We'll find someone just as talented...especially with linemen. Most of the time, MN prospects are a dime a dozen...it would be fun to keep them all because it sets precedent for the occasional elite talent, but guys like Carlberg and Ragnow are EASILY replaceable.

+1

I've been saying for years on GH that zip codes don't matter. Local kids are easier to recruit for the mos part but the talent level and numbers in MN lags way behind most other areas.

I don't agree that they are easily replaceable, but I do believe they are replaceable by the right staff.
The whole "closing the borders" thing is a joke. No one does, it including programs that have been much more successful than we have been.
Get guys who can play. When you are a winner local kids will come, until then just get players.

MSU want him on OL.

Quinn Oseland will be deciding tonight and it looks like odds are he'll be golden!

Huge news if it happens. I don't recall a non-MN prospect committing to the Gophers with that deep and quality of an offer list in a long time, if ever. And to rip him away from his home state school would be very impressive.

+1. Our OL class would go from solid to exceptional if we land Oseland.

This is awesome. To echo dpodoll68's sentiments, this is a heck of a get for us.

The closest I can think of is Harbison. He certainly didn't have as many but he had a number of nice offers.

Connor Mayes had a similar offer list. And it would have been even bigger and better if he took visits to other schools and wasn't a virtual lock to MN from the time his brother committed.

They did but they got a few commits and now want him on D-line.

Shocking...MSU wants to stockpile kids that are going to redshirt and they are willing to make a promise to him to get him to commit. How much you wanna bet that he is switched back to the o-line once camp starts?

I want him to be a Gopher, but I like that Kill won't say anything to make it happen. We can survive him going somewhere else so lets just keep our priorities in focus and take the players we want that want us!

We do that all the time with guys like Donovahn Jones, Nate Wozniak, John Kelly etc.

Gaelin Elmore also had a pretty good offer list as well. Nebraska, MSU, ISU, IU, and the home state Badgers.

Kill did give D. Jones a shot at QB. When you're the 4th string QB and could potentially play if you switch to WR it becomes a pretty easy decision. Yes, the staff was probably banking on that happening but technically they didn't lie to him.

Can’t you say the same thing about MSU and Carlberg though? That is pure speculation on GopherinPhilly’s part anyway.

How exactly are we dong that with Kelly? Also not sure I follow how Wozniak fits.

Well i guess according to Burns that would not be the case as he says we want him as a safety but according the 247 MSU insiders we offered him as a RB which is what he wants to play and is the reason why he was favoring us over them however the plan was to eventually move him to safety. As for Wozniak we beat out some pretty decent schools because we offered as a TE while they offered as an OT. I suppose that currently he doesn’t fit in with the other guys but i still feel there is a legit possibility he moves to OT.

We initially offered Kelly as a RB but are now offering him strictly as a DB. Might be why MSU has jumped back in. And yes, Wozniak is still a TE so he doesn't fit at all. It's possible he ends up switching but that's far from the same thing as offering with the sole purpose being of switching positions.

Teammates with Justin Reid. Both play safety so I would bet they are close.
