Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

It sounded like Gentry and Kill were trying to figure out if he could get the grades/test scores to get into the U. He isn't picking Kent St if he can get in here.

You base this assertion on what?

What the GI guys were saying, his lack of offers, and to a lesser extent the fact that it's Kent State. Looks like he's visiting Rutgers on the 31st and they've offered him. Didn't see that mentioned by anyone.

He's making his decision tomorrow so Rutgers isn't in the equation.

That's news top me. Last I heard he had officially gotten his grades/test in shape which is why they finally offered him. It's my understanding they don't officially offer unless they're certain they can get a kid into school.

chicker/egg scenario:

Which comes first? Get your grades/ACT up to snuff, and we will offer. Or, we will offer as an incentive to get your grades/ACT up to snuff?

Boomshackalacka!

For what it's worth, the Gentry commit puts our recruits' average Rivals Rating at 5.54. I wish Rivals would show that instead of average star rating. I'd be curious to see how that ranks us in the Big Ten (as opposed to average stars or Rivals point system).

One thing I really like about this class is that most of them are already good friends (at least it appears so on Twitter, for example). They keep in contact with each other and welcome a newcomer with excitement and a "welcome to the family" message. Although this has happened in the past, I feel like it is happening more so in this class in particular.

He is a Rivals 5.4 and his best offer was Oregon St.

I do think happens more and more at all teams with Twitter being so public and widely adapted. This was probably happening 5-7 years ago on e-mail, 2-3 years ago on text and now for all of us to consume on Twitter. Makes it fun to read.

True, true.

So how do we finish this class up now?
Anyone think we are done at WR?

FWIW I'm getting worried about Ragnow to Arkansas. Could be complete BS(likely?) but the Hog fans seem to say it's Frank's Mom vs Dad with Mom wanting him to stay and Dad more interested in the NFL potential at Arkansas. I really don't get that since their Oline coach has developed only a handful of NFL guys, and bert really had nothing to do with the OL success at wisky. Funny aside, Pittman the supposed OL guru was a grad assistant UNDER Jerry Kill at Pitt State in the early 80's. Jerry gave him his first coaching job.

I do really hope we end up with Ragnow, Campbell, and James, but it's possible we end up bringing in some late visits to fill a slot if these fall through i suppose.
Remember this staff found Cobb and C. Thompson after signing day.

Just waiting on announcements from Ragnow, James and Campbell/Lenius to finish off the class?

Edit: Not 100% each will commit but it seems to me the options outside of adding 3 of those 4 are minimal.

We have to be getting close to the number of scholarships we have available. Trying to track that is tough, but it would seem we're close since this was to be a "small class."

Sounds like we'd take another WR, Lenius, if he wants to be a Gopher. Other than that the ideal way to close out the class would be Ragnow, James, Campbell, and if Lenius goes elsewhere another DB possibly.

Go Gophers!!

The class is shaping up to be very solid with both needs and balance fulfilled. Jerry Kill and staff are doing a great job improving the quality of players coming into the program. Great to see that the final road trip really has paid off for the staff as well closing the deal with so many students committing. This has been such a fun week to follow the program.

I don't think the NFL will be a result of heading to Arkansas. Butthead won't last another 4 years there, the fans already hate him and his assistants are still leaving even though now he can "afford to pay them." Ragnow would graduate with a different staff if that's where he chooses to go.
