Is there reason to be concerned?

@AllenTrieu: #Minnesota commit Jeff Jones visiting #IowaState tomorrow. A note on his #Gophers status

Go Gophers!!

Does Jeff want to play basketball, perhaps too? Hoiberg?

@Cwilkie11: Had a great time at #Gopher spring football practice! Thanks to the coaching staff for the hospitality!

Go Gophers!!

@swiltfong247: #Minnesota offers Kansas RB Deron Thompson. http://t.co/d0ftwartia #Gophers

Go Gophers!!

I saw Deron Thompson with Kill today. Wasn't impressed with him physically. He doesn't fit the mold of an RB in our offense. Looked better suited at CB.

Josh Corcoran, a lineback from Lakeville South, had a fantastic Sophomore season last year and was in attendance today. 6'3" 230lbs into the start of your JR season will get B1G coaches looking!

Connor Wilkie from Andover also on field during drills with coach Kill today. The top QB in Minnesota's 2014 class looked pretty comfortable with the staff. Hopefully he makes his home here.

J.C. Hassenauer from East Ridge visiting with coaches today at practice. The East Ridge center has already been offered by the U and may be the best Offensive lineman in the state after Frank Ragnow.

Cody Rofshus from Luverne made the trip to practice this morning as well. The two-way lineman is 6'4" 275. Also a member of the 2014 class. The U has yet to offer as far as I'm away.

I really hope that the Kill can get all of these top Minnesota kids to stay home and play for the Gophers.

@elmore2014: Getting personal handwritten letters from Coach Kill >>>

Go Gophers!!

@JoshHelmholdt: #Minnesota RB commit Jeff Jones talked with HC Jerry Kill, will explore his options. Visited #ISU Saturday

Not worried about it. Wants to be comfortable with his decision. It's a good idea to take all of your allotted official visits and make sure you're confident in your choice of school.

This bothers me. I'm not going to pretend like this doesn't mean anything. We need to lock up these local kids and hope they all pull a Tommy Olson and Phil Nelson.

Lots of players take visits at other schools after they have verbally committed. But I agree, it's a little curious.
As for the local kids, we haven't even offered all the top D1 talent in the state yet--- which I still don't understand. I've seen it too many times where we offer later than Becky or Iowa and end up losing our ability to say, "Well, you were our guy first".

I agree. I suppose I can understand if it's a kid at the margin of being D1 (and I'll leave that to the coaching staff to make that assessment), but there's no excuse for us not to be the first one at the dance when the kid is clearly at a D1 level. I'll have to admit that I can't assemble a list of when we've ignored a local kid, but there's little doubt that we have.

Which Minnesota kids from the class of 2014 have received BCS offers from other schools but not Minnesota? The only one I know of is RJ3 from CDH who has a Hawaii offer.

When the Gophers offer a kid, other programs follow. It's a delicate dance. You don't want to get beat out on offering a local player first, like what happened with Rucker and Iowa last year, but if you can keep a kid a secret for at least into the summer that's not such a bad thing.

Also holding off on an offer puts more pressure on a kid to attend the U's camp. It's at summer camp that you get a true indication of a recruits fit into your system. Not all Div 1 athletes in MN will get a MN offer because some will be mismatches. The coaches will recruit to their system.

I understand that it's a delicate dance, and I suppose I can't come up with a list of kids. BUT, more times than not, the BCS level players will be offered first by their home state's team before outstate. AT THE SAME TIME, it's early in the process right now to where we are the first to get a chance at these guys before they go to the Wisconsin, Iowa, and other B1G camps. So in the position we're at right now in the conference, we can't afford to lose out on a chance with BCS level guys to say, "We wanted you first". It's tough, but I've always felt it's critical to make it a point in keeping that level of talent here, even if it may be a small gamble.

I know there are MN players in 2014 we're recruiting right now and contact often, but we haven't offered yet. Don't want those guys to pick up steam elsewhere and watch them sign to our competition.

@D1MANOS: #Minnesota just offered!!!! #gophers #19

Go Gophers!!

@gopherhole: According to @JoeCStrib, big time #Gophers football recruits Jeff Jones and Jashon Cornell attended U's spring practice today.

Go Gophers!!

Connor Wilkie from Andover and Josh Corcoran from Lakeville South also in attendance.

Hoping Mitch Leidner can do some recruitng for us on Josh with the Lakeville South connection. Kid is a big player. Gained a lot of notice as a soph

I understand what you're saying, but it's not like uncommitted recruits in MN have other BCS offers. EDIT: Reid Travis. I bet Tim Gordon and Ejodamen Ejiya will be the next two to get offers.
