"It's awesome," said Mayes, who is from Van Alstyne, Texas. "I'm the only Minnesota commit in the Army game, so I have to represent the Gophers. I was pumped because I've been watching this game since I was a fifth-grader, so getting the invite was a huge deal for me."

"Our class will be one of the best that he's recruited so far," Mayes said. "I don't want to sound cocky or anything, but that's what I believe about the 2014 class."

"Jerry Kill is a very genuine guy," Jones told Rivals.com recruiting expert Mike Farrell on a video from practice Monday. "Everywhere he goes, he and that staff, they win games. You can see from their first year until now, they've won games and progressed every year. I see that the program is on the rise."

Jones wouldn't put a number on his level of commitment to the Gophers. He also visited Iowa State and plans to take an official trip to Michigan State.

"I just know Minnesota is a great school for me, and they run the ball," Jones told Rivals.com. "Coach Kill really wants me there, but I'm just taking my officials to make sure I'm not missing out on any opportunities to help my future."

Yep, his sole purpose in life appears to be hating on anything Gopher related, it's quite odd and has been going on for years. You'd think he'd grow out of it at some point but no such luck, in his mind, it's apparently his claim to fame and he's reluctant to give it up. I know he reads this board looking for twitter handles of Gopher recruits. Hi ***********, how you doing?

watching the UAA game is anyone else noticing how it seems like every one of these kids committing has some middle aged guy in a flat brim (that doesn't appear to be a relative) with them at committing? Maybe i'm just imagining. On a another note, I wonder how many of these kids stick with their commits once the NFL and college coaching vacancies all finish up. Have to imagine that some of the PSU guys are really rethinking their decision right about now.

I've watched about 45 minutes of the UAA game so far, the play has been pretty entertaining but I must say it seems like the whole event in nothing more than a real "dog and pony" show for ESPN and of course mainly the SEC. By the way are ESPN and the SEC connected in any way ?

I think ESPN owns the SEC channel. If so, ESPN will pimp the SEC even more. That's why Tebow will show up on ESPN even though he works for the SEC Network.

+1 They must get a bonus everytime they mention ESPN, Disney or plug some SEC school. I have a memory of someone posting the SEC and ESPN having a tie-in but I can't remember what it was.

Looks like another good sized, good speed, physical DB prospect.

The 6-1, 185-pounder owns 11 offers from the likes of Southern Miss, Colorado State, Arkansas State, Memphis and others, but he's also drawing heavy interest from Arkansas, Minnesota and Vanderbilt as of late.

Interesting to see the offer from CSU considering McElwain's time at Bama. Good speed and tackling, as far as i can tell.

4-star WR Jamil Kamara committed to Virginia today, he was a main WR target for Wisconsin. They might turn their attention to Melvin Holland after missing out on Kamara. I really want Holland, the less competition we have the better.

Trying to figure out the latest on Mr. Holland's recruitment I did a quick google search which first lead me to his 247 page and when i didnt find any new information i was lead to his fathers twitter page. Mr. Holland has retweeted a couple of things gopher related. My next stop was Melvin Jr's twitter. He's retweeting a lot of Gopher stuff and has had recent conversations with both McKinzy and Blasingame. So in short I left feeling pretty good about the Gophers chances. I'm not a twitter user, so I won't be posting any of those tweets here. Sorry folks.

I think we've cooled on Johnson, I don't think he's heard from us since his visit.
