Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

I am going to start this out by saying I am a die hard Gopher fan and not a troll. I grew up in Chaska and know Ragnow's Dad quite well. His Dad told me when I was back from AZ this summer that the Gopher's had no chance, then my brother saw him around Thanksgiving and he told him he was not going to the Gopher's, then my brother saw his Dad again last week and he said there is no chance he is going to sign with the Gopher's. I know he has acted like he is interested but my brother's take is that he is a very nice kid and doesn't want to tell Kill no at this point. My brother said he was very non committal on where he is going but sounded like FSU and Arkansas where the two favorites. Believe me I would love it if another kid from my home town (I know he goes to Chan) became a Gopher but I do not think his Dad would be saying this if it was not true.

I'm not saying you are incorrect in anything you said, but this part makes no sense to me. If he is a nice kid, then the best thing to do would be to tell Kill the truth instead of leading him on.

Incredible! I noticed that you also have connections with Derek Engel's family from an earlier post. Perhaps when Sid finally decides to put away his Smith-Corona or, God forbid, finally takes a dirt nap, you would be the logical heir apparent for his gig at the Strib.

Good catch

He has connections with two families from neighboring fairly small cities. Not that incredible.

Ragnow tweeted this to Jashon Cornell today.

At Florida State? Probably forgot the #Play4Brew hashtag.

Guys, Ragnow isn't coming here. That is why the Gophers are still talking with a couple of OL. He is doing exactly what Tyus was doing. I think Jones should be listed as a " soft verbal " Now that Florida is in the mix we are going to have a battle. Until the Gophers have a couple of ten win seasons and BCS bowl games. we aren't going to get the
local 4/5 star recruit out of Minnesota unless their family bleeds maroon and gold. Ragnow 's mother is from Iowa.
Pop is a tranplant. They've no Gopher connection what so ever.

I really don't think Florida is a viable option for Jones. He's said that distance matters some, so Florida isn't a fit. Also, if Cook commits there this week, that eliminates them immediately. Lastly, he emphasized how important his relationship with the coaches is, and there is uncertainty with the coaching staff in Gainesville. I'm more concerned with Mizzou and MSU than I am with Florida.

Perhaps it's wise to not consider recruiting rankings infallible, as no credible person has ever claimed they are. Go ahead and ignore massive amounts of correlative data - that's your prerogative.

I think you're misinterpreting my overall point. There was a lengthy post talking about some programs that have recently landed highly rated recruiting classes and have not had huge on-field success. I simply offered that perhaps star ratings aren't all they're cracked up to be. Was I saying they're to be ignored? Not at all. But, go ahead and read into it and put "words into my mouth"-it's your prerogative.

There's no doubt Elmore loves Kill and the program.

What??? Say again.

I just glanced at his twitter and my gosh. He calls the Gophers losers... I'd say the only loser is the guy who has invested his life in taking shots at 18-23 year old football players.

The same guy comments on the Star Tribune under the same name. What a butt.

It's about consistency. Brewster had one great class, but a lot of those guys didn't stick around and he never had another class of that caliber. I think if you look at the teams that consistently land the more highly-ranked players, you are going to be looking at the list of the better-performing programs. I think this is especially true of the teams that land the more highly-ranked kids at the skilled positions and on defense. You can get a lot of 2-star "mudders" at some positions, particularly the O-line, but talent counts in the long run and I think the star-rankings, while not perfect, give a pretty good shorthand account of where guys rank in the recruiting world.
