Curious about the field. Is there a tarp, or did they plow off the M? I'm assuming the field would be protected and tucked away for the winter

They clear off the snow from the M all winter. Similar to roping off the M in the locker room so it doesn't get stepped on.

J'Vonte Herrod picked up a Southern Miss offer today.

Go Gophers!!

I like Richardson attitude already. He might play as a Freshman as this kid has nose for getting beyond the line of scrimmage and in the opponents backfields for TFLS and sacks. He seems to have a little bit of "IT" that your looking for in an advance pass rusher.
Richardson already makes plays with great leverage and technique, now the coaches will work with him on his first step and hopefullly he will be even more explosive off the ball. Hopefully he can do it against the big boys in college.

He reminds me of a Pat Williams. Plug the hole and require the other team to dedicate more than one person to you. I don't know if he will play as a freshmen though. He could red shirt and be over 300lbs and learn a bunch. I think the four years of playing time would be more productive.

Christian Russell committed to Ole Miss. Not surprising losing him to his home state school.

That's not his home state. Just where he played juco ball. Hopefully we can land Poock, he looks like a real physical linebacker.

It would've been nice to get Russell, but I'm not as worried about LB as most. Wilson will still be here, Campbell will be an every-down player, and someone from the pool of Lynn/Rallis/Laster/Wipson/Matilus/Dixon/Schultz will step up and grab the other spot.

I'm not worried about too much about LB either. I think Campbell played well and I was actually surprised he didn't play more after his injury. But adding a talented juco player certainly wouldn't hurt, either to start or for depth. I thought Wilson would have the biggest imediate impact of this past class and the addition was pretty huge for the defense. There's some nice speed between Wipson, Lynn, Laster, and Dixon.

Still need some weapons at WR. I like the targets mentioned recently. Baker would be huge, and it sounds like he enjoyed his visit a lot. Holland looks a lot better than his ratings and offers would suggest. I also really like the two athletes from alabama. Maybe Carter can contribute next year, but I suspect his size may limit him much like KJ Maye is kind of limited in what he can contribute. Harbison almost seems like he has a foot half way out the door from what you read on here. Although Kill has shown a knack of turning kids of that ilk around.

Go Gophers!!

Ragnow just tweeted, "this decision is killing me." I don't know if he was talking about football or where to eat.

Florida St has 2 OT commits and the 247 Crystal Ball is saying that OT Derrick Kelly is likely to join them. They may be putting the squeeze on Frank.

Baker gets an in-home visit a day after his official ended. Putting on the full-court press.

Hopefully they send him 97 letters in the mail tomorrow. Then he'll know we're serious

Pretty good set of offers for McIntosh. Nice size for a safety.

The problem is experience. We only have two guys returning who have ever played a snap at LB at the college level: Wilson and Campbell. Russell would have been equal to and possibly better than Hill at the SAM, so now we will be taking a step back at that LB position. Campbell struggled at times and may be ready to play on a full-time basis next year, but it was nice to have a guy like Manuel for him to share reps with this year. Next year one of the starters and all of the back-ups will be unproven.

We offered Melvin Holland, a WR from VA today and he'll be taking an official visit on January 17th. This kid's highlight tape is impressive. He's big and fast. Not sure why he doesn't have a better offer list.

Any chance we could get Holland jr in here sooner to visit and lock him in? This guy comes from a recruiting area we have not gotten a lot of players out of in the past, would be nice to get something established out there. A lot of good players in the Northern Virgina/ DC area, and this kid is the stuff. He Holland has unique skill set(great body control) and competes about as well for the football as anyone I have seen recently. I know it's highlights but this guy really flashes and catches your eyes as a man among boys. He could walk in the door and return kicks for us and that is saying something and he would likely see the field as a freshman. That combination of size and speed, is kind of rare to be that tall and quick and to be able to run like that(looks pretty effortless). Surprised Gophers are one of his bigger offers, this guy is going to start rolling them up as the playoffs near an end, he does look like a big fish that has gone unoticed probably because it is his first year starting at receiver and he played linebacker before. That and the kid looks like he has the frame to get even taller and put on more weight and be able to carry it and continue to be fast. He is a gifted kid, I hope coack Kill and Anderson can get him to the U.

Nick Rallis, Jack Lynn and Jephte Matilus all took snaps at LB this year. We lose Hill and Manuel but the coaches were high on Lynn in the spring…I just think Manuel and Wilson played so well that Lynn didn't get much playing time. We are way better off than we were last year at LB. I am with the crowd that isn't the least bit concerned.

We were very lucky with injuries this season. That was huge part of our success. We could use another ready to play LB like Wilson for that reason alone.

It would be nice to have more experience at LB, but I think one of the things I've seen from Claeys that I really like is that he takes younger, inexperienced players and cycles them in, first getting them to specialize in certain situations and then expanding their assignments and letting the best guy rise to the top in terms of playing time. Lots of bodies and I think Claeys will find and develop the best ones.

From what I recall, they do have a JUCO LB from Iowa who was here last week and seems to be pretty high on their radar. I think adding another LB with some experience is good, but they need to bring in at least two playmakers at WR. Hopefully, two guys who can play right away.

This offense could really take off if they can get Harbison back (maybe a long shot), bring in two guys who can contribute as freshmen, and see Wolitarsky and Jones really develop from year one to two. Plus, you have Fruechte for one more year. Add to that some a more developed Maxx Williams and you're talking.
