Go Gophers!!

Oh man. It's looking more and more like Ragnow is going to Arkansas and Jeff Jones will decide to head somewhere else. We could very well end up with the worst b1G class this year.

What's your point?

The Gophers recruiting classes have been at the bottom of the B1G for a few years yet they are 7-2 and 3-2 in the conference. It would be great to have a class like Ohio St but apparently you can win if you recruit the right players regardless of how they are ranked,

Well maybe that's not as bad of a deal as it sounds since we are already a young team. I was looking at the 2015 class of Minnesota kids on scout and damn is there a lot of kids with big time offers already. If we can get a good amount of the 2015 class to stay home that would be huge as that may be more important than this class.

Regardless of how great Kill & CO are doing at building our players into men...you can't coach speed and instincts. Some have it, some don't. If we want to go beyond the Mason years and really compete for a B1G Title every few years, we need to not be dead last in recruiting year in and out.

It's pretty self explanatory, isn't it? Having the worst recruiting class and being unable to keep quality Minnesota recruits is not good for us.

Just win baby! It'd be clean if we could get Ragnow & Jones, but if not we'll get someone who does want to be Golden. Every game makes it easier.

It's only November. Our head coach has been sidelined for nearly a month. It's no coincidence that we haven't had a commit for a while, but there is plenty of time to turn things around. A lot of players like to focus on their senior seasons, recruiting should pick up here in a few weeks with their seasons ending and hopefully Kill returning to full football activity.

The coaches have said numerous times that the dividends of this season's success will not be seen in the 2014 class, but the following ones. I like a lot of our young talent on the current roster so I think we'll be fine even if the worst case scenario plays out for 2014.

The good news is that we only have about 15 scholarships in 2014 and if you look at at the two deeps, there isn't a single position where we have to get a starter from this class. Unlike the last few years where we had to go Juco to get DBs & LBs and we had to start FR at QB, RB, WR and on the lines. At least next year if we have a FR starter it is because they are a stud.

Reading JJ's quotes in that latest GH interview is pretty amazing. It's hard to believe a kid with those kind of statements about Minnesota, after our great run, was ever excited enough about committing to the U that he was actively recruiting other players to join him.

Shooter Now: Donyell Marshall's son wants to play for Gophers

Paryss Marshall, a 6-foot, 195-pound senior wide receiver-defensive back at Catasauqua High in Northampton, Pa., wants to play for the Gophers.

He is the son of former Timberwolves first-round draft pick Donyell Marshall.

Paryss attended a Gophers summer camp this year, but the University of Minnesota hasn't made him an offer.

Donyell, 40, who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft and spent 15 seasons with eight teams, is an assistant at Rider University in New Jersey. He spent a year as a broadcast host for Philadelphia 76ers games.

My sentiments exactly, G4inPhilly

Ragnow might be taking an unofficial visit to the U this weekend. Would be great to pack the house and get another victory with him in attendance.

Some interesting comments from Jones and Ragnow, this is the first time I've seen a recruit come out and say that Kill's health impacts him.

Jones said Kill’s battle with epilepsy affects his recruitment tremendously.

“You never know if [Kill’s] telling the truth or not, but I believe him,” Jones said. “I don’t believe he’ll be going anywhere any time soon, but it’s always in the back of my head when I’m looking at another school that has a coaching staff established.”

Jones said the uncertainty surrounding Kill’s health does concern him a bit, especially when he’s trying to make a career out of football.

“It does [scare me] — just the fact that it isn’t a small thing,” Jones said. “It depends on my career as a college player. Will he be my head coach or not? That’s significant to me.”

Ragnow, on the other hand, said seeing the things Kill has overcome in his career makes him want to play for the Gophers even more. He said he sees Kill’s health problems as temporary.

“He’s had epilepsy for a lot of years, and he’s been a real successful coach,” Ragnow said. “This is just a bump. I think he’ll be fine, [and] I respect him for it.”

Ragnow said he doesn’t have reservations about Kill’s health, but he said he’s concerned about the program’s ability to win.

“I love the coaching staff, [and] it’s close to home,” he said. “It’s just you’d love to see them win more.”

Ragnow said he doesn’t expect the Gophers to turn into a powerhouse program overnight and said he will keep Minnesota in the mix until he makes his final decision.

“This is a big year for the Gophers,” Ragnow said. “I’m really watching closely, because I want to see progress.”

Jones agreed with Ragnow and compared Minnesota’s on-field success to that of the other programs going after him.

“Missouri’s top 10 in the country right now,” Jones said. “You can’t beat that.”

The Gophers are a running football team — something that would make a Jones-Ragnow tandem ideal.

“That offense is a dream come true for a running back,” Jones said. “Kill loves to feed the ball to the running backs, and … it’ll be a perfect fit if that’s where I choose.”

Ragnow said he loves to run block and wants to play in an offense that runs the ball frequently.

Jones said he and Ragnow have entertained the idea of playing together but aren’t necessarily looking at being a package deal.

“We were saying if we both went there, it’d be significant for the Gophers,” Jones said.

Message to Jeff Jones and Frank Ragnow: If you want to know where the future of the Gopher Football is heading, just look at Northern Illinois today. They are winning with Jerry Kill's former recruits.

on that note, jordan lynch just looks like a man among boys in that conference. wow.

Ryan Burns saying we have 7 big time recruits coming to the wisconsin game. I am a poor college student who cant really afford the pay wall but would love to know who we are in the running for.

The 247 visit page is a great feature:

http://minnesota.247sports.com/Season/2014-Football/Visits

From there, you can see we have official visits this weekend from J'Vonte Herrod (http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-J'Vonte-Herrod-147703), Demetrius Hill (http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Demetrius-Hill-139987), and Jerry Gibson (http://rivals.yahoo.com/uga/football/recruiting/player-Jerry-Gibson-148806).

In browsing around the interwebs this week, I'm fairly confident we're getting unofficials this weekend from 2014 Gopher commit Connor Mayes (http://rivals.yahoo.com/minnesota/football/recruiting/player-Connor-Mayes-120871), 2014 Frank Ragnow (http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Frank-Ragnow-142877), 2015 in-state prospect QB Ryan Schlichte (http://rivals.yahoo.com/iowa/football/recruiting/player-Ryan-Schlichte-150704), and 2016 in-state prospect JoJo Garcia (http://www.scout.com/a.z?s=143&p=8&c=1&nid=6866641). Garcia's profiles are pretty bare (or non-existent) on the various sites because he is only a sophomore, but he was the first in-state offer for the Gophers for the 2016 class, yesterday I believe. This will also be his 2nd unofficial in less than a week.

I'm not sure if these are the exact 7 he's referring to, but I'm pretty sure they will all be here this weekend.

Connor Mayes, who is a projected center/guard and very highly regarded, is going to be there the same time an offensive tackle recruit in Ragnow? Hopefully Connor does some serious recruiting!

He is referring to the Wisconsin game in 2 weeks. They are all official 2014 visitors.

Some of what I've seen has Ragnow as a College Guard or DT.

List of official visitors for the WI game compiled from Rivals and other sites: ATH Dimonic McKinzy; RB Deron Thompson; DE Julien Kafo; DB Khari Blasingame; LB Christian Russell; WR Mike Thomas; DB Craig James; & WR Stephen Louis.

The list for the Penn State game: RB J'Vonte Herrod; ATH Jerry Gibson, & DE Demetrius Hill.

He is referring to the Wisconsin game in 2 weeks. They are all official 2014 visitors.

My bad. I now see "Wisconsin" in the thread I quoted. I didn't even notice the first time. My mistake! As you've clarified, the list I posted is for the PSU game. Jaymil has a better (and more thorough) list for the PSU game in the "Pre-Game Thoughts" thread.
