TC: No. We redshirted two kids last year. We feel like we are young there. Next year we will concentrate on DBs because of how young we are.

Claeys: Only one DB signed: Any young help coming in the secondary from guys already on roster? Maybe red-shirted Daletavious McGhee or walk-ons Adekunle Ayinde or Cavonte Johnson? Other young DBs you like?

TC: You pretty made said them all. We also have Boddy-Calhoun coming back, who was a starter last year. Eric Murray is back and so is Derrick Wells. We have plenty of depth there. Jalen Myrick will be improved as well.

How much stock should a fan put into the star rating system that is used in rating these High School young men?

TC: The star ratings was done to create interest in college recruiting and it has done that. It has also generated a lot of money. But we use our own evaluation. I would rather win on game day than on signing day.

TC: It is true with some kids. The bottom line is you win with kids who want to be Gophers. If they want to be here they accept the weather. I always tell kids there are two things I cannot change. One, I cannot move the campus closer to you and two, I cannot change the weather.

I noticed that JT Ibe hasn't signed with Rice yet, according to his Rivals page. Does anyone know if he's still a potential late addition to the class?
 


He said he was going to Rice although he enjoyed his Minnesota visit. There are no spots left on the recruiting board on the gopher website…perhaps they are done…no real positive surprises, but did get James (expected), Gibson (who had changed his commitment to "soft") and Jones (who was expected but we all wanted to be a hard commit) but also no negative surprises…I would say, all in all, a fantastic day.
 


Can anyone verify whether or not the potential flip is still in play? I dont even care what his name is just whether or not we should expect the Gophers to pickup an additional commit from a player currently committed elsewhere.
 


wow, had no idea that Christian Campbell signed with Penn State. I had no idea that he was being recruited by them. I was hoping that we could of landed him. Great class so far!!

Not really much divulged, just said that we will look at some good late qualifiers at DB.
 



We got 3 of the top 6 (ESPN) Minnesota recruits…including the top one. Expect to see more and more guys staying home in the future. IMO (Lingen #6, Stelter #4, Jones #1). We didn't recruit #5, kicker, Taubenheim.

Burns has gotten word that we're not done recruiting DB's. The staff is looking at guys who maybe got squeezed out of other schools or were late qualifiers. Allegedly some talented guys & hoping to bring them in over next couple weekends for visits.
 

With today's signings, Gophers listed as 8th in B1G and 49th nationally by Rivals. We jumped past Iowa who took a hit when Pierschbacher flipped to Bama.

We have discussed, dissected, and debated recruiting ranking systems ad nauseum but TC said it best above. Hopefully, now we can all now agree that the coaches opinions are the ones that count. But I am sure the GopherHole will be able to find new ways of keeping this debate going.:rolleyes:

Does anyone really believe that a Gopher "Official" would tell someone from the media (much less Fat Pat) this about a recruit that hadn't even signed yet ? We should find that "Official" campus parking lot attendant and demand that he be fired !

Judd and Mackey had one of the GI guys on and it was a pretty good listen. Judd, for some reason, chose to wear a Badger sweatshirt today, because he is a smart, interesting person.

It's not really a debate. Every single year the vast majority of AQ schools in the top 25 have at least one top 25 class on the roster.

Your right about the "keeping the debate rolling" part but TC and Coach Kill have also said that if more 4 and 5 Star kids give them a call they'd be more than happy to recruit them. Until then, they'll "spend their time" recruiting the kids they think they can get.

Not chasing the unlikely targets may also help in identifying some of these "diamonds" as well.

Judd also asked the GI guy if Jones was as highly ranked as Marion Barber. Was shocked when the guy explained. Shocked to learn signing date was a big deal. You'd think as a host of a sports radio show that.............................oh never mind.

Yes many people would believe it. If you don't then you're naive.

We already know he has to improve his GPA and his ACT. Why do you find this hard to believe?

Yep, he's an absolute moron. He has no idea how to sell his show which is why he will either be out of radio or failing in some tiny market in 2 years. Sometimes, you need to pretend a little because your fan base is interested in the subject. Do you think every person on Sportscenter cares a ton about everything in sports? Nope. But certain fans might be tuning in for certain things. So if you can't pretend long enough when you have a guest, those people won't even click back.

It would have taken him a total of 5 seconds to research how big of recruit Jeff Jones is and instead he went out of his way to be a jerk.
