New third quarter song

I'm not talking about " Do the Gopher " And what do you mean " a few head nods and smiles" Let me play one song from the 70-80's and if I couldn't get the whole crowd up, including the students
may George Harrison jump out of his grave , do a back flip at the 50 yd line and start
singing " I've got my mind set on you "

A piece of advice Ruppert, for your one song that you intend to get everyone on their feet....don't play "I've got my mind set on you." Barney's theme song would get a better reaction.

Maybe...maybe not. Would work with the kiss cam. I would suggest you check out the number of " hits" it has on Y-tube. Sometimes research is a good thing before you spew.

Um, well George Harrison's song has 1.4 million views compared to "The Fox's" 54.4 million views. Hmmmm.

Ouch...that's in 3 weeks. How old is the other one??

Sorry, Ruppert....."I would suggest you check out the number of " hits" it has on Y-tube. Sometimes research is a good thing before you spew."

Well, George Harrison's song has been on there for 4 years. "The Fox" has been on there for 3 weeks.

In the grand scheme of things, George Harrison's video only having 1.4 million views in 4 years is pretty paltry, everything considered.

A little research does go a long ways. :)

FYI...Ruppert:

"The Fox" had 49.2 million views Monday morning...when I used it as a Monday morning chuckle at work. It's had almost 4 times the views as Harrison's in the last 52ish hours.

I wish I could prove this, but I can't. Hopefully, you can trust me.

The video it self has over 5 million views and has " sustained " So you're going to tell me over the next 25 years that Fox song will average that amount of hits? You sir's are delusional It is a one time wonder JHC, you clowns must be tone deaf. Quality boys....Quality. Stands the test of time. Now excuse me while I go out and tee it up. The first ball I'll draw a little picture of a fox on it and drill about 270 yds. If the wind is behind me; about 290 yds. BTW, if you want to give me your I-phones at the game I'll load some tunes for you. Go Gophers!

You can click on the little bar graph under the video and look at different statistics, one of which is the daily views.

The stadium needs more things directed towards making it fun for the younger crowd. They will hopefully be season ticket holders for many years in the future. There was some good music in the 70-80s for sure but keep an open mind and you will find good current music.

To be fair, if youtube had existed back in the day when Harrison's song was released it probably would have a ton of views as well. However that doesn't get past the fact that in 2013 it does not resonate with the people who have the most fan impact at the games on Saturday.

In the next 25 years, the world may be getting it's internet entertainment from a site other than YouTube and the "hits" won't matter. I don't mind playing viral music in the third quarter if it wakes up the crowd. Depending on what is happening in the game, the students tend to be in a bit of a lull between the 3rd and 4th Quarters.

Plus I thought the Band played all of your hits from the 70s?

Ruppert has spent too much time studying from Joel Maturi's Book of Sports Marketing.

FYI; in our section (243), the Blue Hair'ds were really in to the Fox Song. These gals are progressive. I like it.

My opinion; whatever gets the student section going is great.

They haven't got a "CLUE " on music. It is a baby boomer crowd!! And what is really f-ing stupid is the kids have the 70-80's songs on I-tunes on their phones!!!
I should f-ing know, I have a daughter that is a senior at Bemidji State. When they played the fox song the guy and his wife behind us ( 30 something ) said: " They should 86 that clown from the booth"! Wait a minute, I have a another solution. If you liked that song I'll buy your season tickets if
you have requested it via text during the DJ portion. Win,win situation for the 30,000 plus fans that gagged when they played it!

This is new. Probably the first time I've heard the Gophers crowd called "baby boomers". Who exactly are you talking about? The actual baby boomers who likely listen to 70's/80's music or the student? Polar opposite from what we are normally assumed to be.

Second.........80's? The single worst decade of American music? Hair metal is terrible.

Agreed but the 80's were kind to Minneapolis music: Prince, Husker Du, Replacements (not that we need to play anything old at Gopher's games).

Heard it twice today, all the old people were confused, but the 3rd quarter jam isn't intended for them anyway. Students were rocking during the intermission mix, by far my favorite fan event of the games.

Agreed.

Heaven forbid the boomers don't get what they want for five whole minutes.

You're right, but Ruppy presented part of his argument by using "YouTube hits" as a point.

That gave me a good laugh.

Did they even have a song that made the billboard top 40?

You're right ruppert. We should strive for nothing but quality Top 40 hits from the 1970's & 1980's:

Christopher Cross - "Arthur's Theme"
Duran Duran - "The Reflex"
Ray Parker Jr. - "Ghostbusters"
Stevie Wonder - "I Just Called to Say I Love You"
Starship - "We Built This City"
Bob Seger - "Shakedown"
Rick Astley - "Never Gonna Give You Up" incidentally that is my ring tone.
Steve Winwood - "Roll With It"
Beach Boys - "Kokomo"
Terry Jacks "Seasons in the Sun"
Captain and Tenille "Muskrat Love"
Debby Boone "You Light Up My Life"

I could really see the student section getting buck wild and crazy while this song is played. Let's test it out. (Sarcasm font)

It took me 30 years to get that stupid song by Captain and Tenille: Muskrat Love, out of my head. I'm having flashbacks.

I hate you Unregistered.

Honestly I would think everyone would've had enough 70's and 80's music from the band's cutting edge halftime shows.

Sorry.

So, if we're going to have crappy music from a long time ago, at least have fun with it, and play a cover by a Finnish accordion band.

I present Eläkeläiset:
