Fire Ben Johnson

Hey Mark Coyle, if you're out of your Mayo-induced hangover, this was the most pathetic collapse to lose a game in a long time. Tomorrow would be a good day to put Ben and the 19 remaining fans out of our misery.

I’ve been in the “save money, wait until after the season” to fire Ben camp, but after tonight, not sure you can wait. He’s just so, so awful. What an irredeemable four years this has been.

There's no money to save anyway. The buyout doesn't drop until May 1st (for a reason). They can't wait until then to make a move.

0 ranked wins in 3.5 years

You know how many bad teams accidentally win like 1 or 2 of those a year? Much less 0 in likely 4?

That's DePaul stuff(and that coach got fired midseason and also had I believe a ranked win in his tenure)

Mark, you're being humiliated by your #1 rival by 30 points. Tomorrow would be a good day to pay some $%% attention and fire Ben Johnson.
At this point I'm wondering whether Coyle's purposely trolling us. I mean, nobody can be that obtuse about something so glaringly obvious to everyone else, can they? And if they are, how the hell do they have a job?

The only conclusion you can draw is that he doesn't care.

I'm drawing a more sinister conclusion. The BoR and Administration are interfering with the timing of the inevitable.
The man's being paid more than $1 million annually. If either of these scenarios is accurate he adds no value and they can find someone to be their puppet for a fraction of that cost.

So few people are still paying attention to Gopher basketball, I find it hard to believe they care about optics.
Maybe we can get Barriero to use an hour of his show after each game to criticize this program and just turn up the heat.

Naaahhh......

The local media should be in Mark's face about this. But most of them don't care, and the rest are in the "poor Ben, what can he do?" camp.

Yeah Coyle really hasn't said anything about anything lately. Think Thorson's time should be up too

You're right. They're not allowing Coyle to make any changes beyond hiring the unicyclist for one more halftime show.

I think in the interest of "fairness", since Whalen got 5 years, they people there that hate sports anyway are going to declare that the men's coach gets 5 years as well.

Scoggins was on WCCO the other day talking Gopher Hoops. Talked about how everyone really likes Ben and wants him to succeed but hard to point to any hope at this point. I actually like Scoggins, many may not.

I think everyone's aware at this point that this is done, but it does help to have the media on board.

I’m thinking the same silver pony tailed idiots that forced this hire are have forgotten all about basketball and are now focusing on more important things like whether or not any of the buildings or streets on or near campus are named after someone who was ever mean to Native American. George Floyd is so 2020, we’re on to more pressing things.

Lately? Coyle's entire tenure has been spent in a bunker akin to Biden's 2020 presidential campaign. Honestly would be shocked if there's any other AD at a power school who's more mute/silent than him.

Spends his life living in the shadows, never makes an appearance, gives an interview, nothing. Shameful

I hear this over and over, and I've never understood the point about likeability. What does it have ti do whether he continues to be entrusted with such an important job?

Whalen won many, many more games than Ben. As I posted earlier this week, for Ben to match Lindsey's B1G winning %, he'd have to win 13 games in a row. If he does that, he can get year 5.

Is Ben even that likeable of a guy? That part confuses me as well.

He's certainly not an unlikable guy, but he's shown zero personality, humor, engagement whatever over 4 years. Diffident Ben is super accurate.

Pitino wasn't prepared for this job, and didn't do well here overall. But like him or not, at least he was engaging and offered SOMETHING as a personality. His snarky sarcastic humor didn't play for everyone but at least offered an ethos.
