Fire Ben Johnson

was it DEI or was DEI a bonus on top of hiring a cheap coach who played here and was an assistant here for a sport the university doesn't care about that some local people would maybe be on board with? he is and was an awful hire but there were multiple reasons his name even came up in the first place and it wasn't like we just made a list of any Black coaches in the country and started from there.
Whether it was or not is conjecture, but there’s no doubt there was tremendous pressure to make such a hire. Souhan had just written an article in the Strib about Coyle needing to diversify his hiring, and another article came out just before, which stated that it had been 14 years since the gophers hired a black head coach in any sport. All that going on during the hiring process - I think most observers knew what that would lead to. Either way, I just want our next coach to be the best one available - I couldn’t care less about the rest.
Here’s Souhan’s article: https://www.startribune.com/if-not-...ime-to-diversify-gophers-leadership/600036010
