Fire Ben Johnson

Honest question here - how can you have the next guy lined up when the ones everyone wants are coaching their teams into the postseason for the next couple of weeks? Yeah, you talk to their reps, but if someone is saying yes to you before they're done at their current job, that's not a great sign, IMO.
Times are changing. Miami was talking to one of Duke's assistants a few days ago. They went on and hired him (I'm pretty sure). The transfer portal opening almost right after the championship has made it to where teams need to consider hiring a new coach before the season is completely over.

This is no defense of Ben...But how could a team that was picked last (ours) underperform expectations?
There were several 'Why are we underachievers - we stink' questions on that post. Here is what the guy replied with on roster talent evaluation:

Measuring roster talent can be a bit complicated, but my calculation uses a combination of the current BPR values for the players on the roster at EvanMiya.com and the preseason BPR projections for those players before the season started.

So it combines a bit of what was expected from the roster coming into the year with our more updated understanding of how good those players are now.

I am not familiar with his analytics site at all, but I guess his analytics rated our talent better than the media predicted.

How can a team be 11th in the standings but 17th in the net rankings? I don't know the math behind this site but it's possible that being 110th in the Net is still under performing the talent on the team. Penn State, USC and Iowa are even bigger underperformers.

This can't be true, can it?

Then again, there are folks here who are quite satisfied with climbing into Weekling Wednesday, so I guess maybe it could.
Well, I think this is the question, isn't it? I'm sure there's a thread from a few months ago with opinions on what the Gophs should have to achieve to get Ben a fifth season. And I would doubt that anyone said, avoid being shut out of the BTT and play on Weakling Wednesday.

Of course, half of the teams in the conference are playing Wednesday or staying home, so...

He hired PJ 4 days after he was done coaching in the Cotton Bowl. He hired coach P 1 day after she was done coaching in the NCAA tournament. Surely there were conversations long before they were done coaching.

Replacing Whalen took the longest, a little over 2 weeks, because coach P was still coaching. Otherwise Coyle hired, PJ, Motzko, and BJ all within a week of firing the previous coach.
My only question concerning next year is who will be on the team?

Because predictions are based on nothing but reputation and gut feeling. So when you have a whole new roster that no one knows, of course they will be picked at or near the bottom.

Our team was full of seniors who had all played to some success before. They should have been much better with a better coach. Winning all those Quad 1 games proved they were not as low in talent as everyone believed.
