Fire Ben Johnson

So we should keep Ben because every coach in the country has to deal with the transfer portal?

Your logic, which you had none to start with, somehow keeps getting worse.
I've never thought much of fear-based decision making. Washington took their lumps this year, but the Sprinkle hire was a good one, and I could be wrong, but I like his and their future long term.

Washington being pointed as the example of how bad things could get if we fire Johnson is pretty comedic

Washington 13-17
Minnesota 15-15

Washington beat Minnesota

So the downside is losing 2-3 more games next year?
Next year is going to be worse for Johnson too

No was more so pointing that a bad team got significantly worse with the firing of a coach and hiring a mid-major star coach with no meaningful infrastructure change. And that's with a 2 million dollar transfer! But you knew that.
Don't disagree in that there are no guarantees with coaching changes, especially if there is not also a significant investment in supporting the coach.

But that isn't a reason not to make a change when the current coach isn't getting it done and has already had multiple chances to rebuild the roster is minimal success.

The only valid reason to me for keeping Ben around for year 5 would be a strong belief that the team is on the verge of breaking through and I really don't know how anyone could make that case when looking at a roster that is about to lose its lone great player and most of the other pieces that made significant contributions this season.

So what? Other teams have hired coaches and got significantly better in year 1. This has nothing to do with keeping BJ, who's going to have to completely rebuild the Gophers again anyways this offseason.

I'll take my chances with a new coach navigating a 'crazy transfer portal' over watching BJ flounder like he has for 4 years.

The downside is finishing worse than 18th and missing the B1G tournament. Looking forward to the hire to turn it around!

What about it and why do you think they are going to succeed going forward based on their history of ineptitude? I wonder if Washington fans in 2 years if they're 500. in the B1G will site his overall B1G record as a reason to fire him.

If Washington finishes .500 in the conference, and plays a solid non-conference schedule, they'll be in the NCAA tournament so I doubt it.

Yup. The downside is that the team could’ve lost 1-2 more games and missed the big ten tournament

That downside certainly doesn’t exist if we keep the coach 😂

I'm sure Washington fans are thrilled about this year and are pumped for the future!

A few minutes of watching St Johns vs Marquette, Kentucky vs Missouri, Arkansas vs Miss St, ect it becomes very clear how far we are from a good basketball team. Enough excuses, we've seen 4 years of results, time to find a coach.

Yet you just said Washington had a ‘2 million dollar player’ so that apparently doesn’t matter either.

Mississippi St has been just as terrible as the Gophers and St Johns has been worse over the last 25 years. Now their winning has nothing to do them hiring new competent coaches and it's because they've become flush with cash...

The logic fails continue.

I would love for the Gophers to make a Rick Pitino or Chris Jans like hire but they wouldn't touch either with a 10 foot pole. Btw Mississippi State has now finished 5 straight years at 8-10 in the SEC.

I'm all for a change if the change comes with a nice NIL boost because that's a gigantic piece of the puzzle. If not save the money and put it towards a new arena.

It's truly incredible.

Jbag will never admit cbj had every single chance and failed.

Maybe what he is trying to say is:

$5 million dollar coach > a $2 Million dollar coach.

If they hire another $2 coach, it is more 22-55.

If they wait one year, then they have saved enough cash (cia the boyout and changeover fees) to at least, afford one year of a $5 million dollar coach - which would significantly upgrade the probability of upgrading on the 22-55. Then that’s preferable.

However, he also explicitly stated he wants an expensive coach, not a cheap one. If that is available this year.

Mississippi St has made the NCAA tournament the last 2 years. The Gophers have NIL and revenue sharing. Something needs to be done with the Barn but it's not preventing them from winning.

Ben isn't generating more wins or more NIL money.

Wait a year?

Mn has money. Plenty.

He's covering himself now that his coach that he has covered for 4 years has failed. Jbag wouldn't date reality of the situation. Still won't.

Anyone keeping Ben over $$ is a fool. If he comes back the buyout will likely be the same a year from now. A good replacement will still cost $3 million plus. In the meantime we'll have spent $2.5 million on another season of Ben and $2 million in lost ticket sales on top.

Agree on the money.

That money only matters if they can spend d it on Men’s Bball.

I want them to, I know you do.

I have no say and only hope.
